Wait.. You said you do 17 chests in a little over 2 hours, that would be about 8 chests per hour.

Then you said you get an average of 29k loot from the chest, 19k of it being profit.. And that you get 338k /hr, but I think you meant 338k every ~2hrs because 8 chests per hour multiplied by 19k average profit per chest is 152k/hr.

I might have missed something...

And either way I think your 1 item ever 15 chests is pretty lucky, I am on a 60+ dry streak atm.

Yeah Barrows is pretty damn awesome, I love it for making money. The way I do my runs is I use Slayer Dart for all brothers except Ahrim I kill him using a Crystal Bow.

I use tuna for food cause it's incredibly cheap and tele after each run to a bank and run back.

Here's my loot since Monday

Damn. I hate you people with luck in monster hunting/ barrows. I'd tell you to go live in a hole, but you might take my advice and get more claws/barrow items o.o

Very nice, Wacht

Are you praying the entire time? It doesn't seem like it, but you also have no food. Thanks.

I ice barrage the melee brothers and then I stand one step diagonally from them. At that spot, I can hit them with my salamander, but they can't hit me. When they become unfrozen after 6 salamander blows (and if they're not dead yet), I hide behind a cofin a few seconds and barrage them again. If you do this right, each melee brother will only hit you once, it's impossible to avoid the first blow.

Then you said you get an average of 29k loot from the chest, 19k of it being profit.. And that you get 338k /hr, but I think you meant 338k every ~2hrs because 8 chests per hour multiplied by 19k average profit per chest is 152k/hr.

Actually, I measured the profit per hour and derived the profit per chest from that. I'm sure I spent 10K per chest, so that makes 52K per chest without items. Thanks for pointing that out.

About luck, okay, it may also depend on luck. But I still think this depends less on luck then normal monster hunting.

XxTearGodxX, I strongly suggest you should at least try my method for once. You'll be surprised how much quicker it is. Not to mention a salamander is cheaper and has a higher max hit then slayer dart. Also, one of the reasons I started this method is because I started to hate the banking and running back all the time.

When everything's been said and done, more has been said than done.

I used to barrow a lot on my old account so I never really wanted to do it much on my current.

Looking over your items you got extremely lucky.

The helms are the rarest (if I remember rightly) part of the sets so to get 9 out of 26 items is extremely lucky. To add to this you only got 5 weapons which are about on par with legs for there rarity, being the most common parts.

If we average out the costs of the items it would be an average cost of 1.317m per item you get (if the odds where all equal).

So your getting 1 per about 2 hours thats pretty much half of that, so lets call it 700k

Now if you add the other items its close to 1m per hour, however when you take into account runes, ammo, potions and repair costs (your using 7 degrading items) it drops below 1m per hour.

All in all its a great money maker theres no doubt in that, in fact its one of the easier ones. However its extremely anti-social, your lucky if you have time to have a conversation with some there and all the movement makes PM's pretty annoying and risky to do.

PS. Replace one or two of the prayer pots with super restores to remove ahrims effects (makes healing quicker and reduces damage you might get).

This is the first time I heard anyone claiming the helms are the rarest items. I assumed all items were equally rare, with that assumption, the average item is worth 1480K. So appearently, I made another calculation error somewhere (as I initially thought the average items was 1640K). Guess that teaches me not to make new topics or calculate stuff late at night.

I recalculated the profit at a little more then 1M/h, still pretty good in my opinion. I already substracted the costs of ammunition, runes, etc. so this 1M/h is pure profit. As you said, I didn't take degrading costs into account. However, even if you don't use your house to repair barrows, it's still only a maximum of 22K/h. This is assuming I used my barrows weapon all the time, which is of course false. The fact I used 7 degrading items doesn't make the cost of degrading higher then using only 4. 22k/h is neglectable IMO. I also left half keys out of the calculation, which lowers the error even more.

I don't need to use super restores as ahrim never lowered my stats under their normal level. (Remember I use a pure set each round.)

If you glance over the barrows blog on the blogs section (its really just monster drops with barrows items) there always seems to be less helms then there are any other parts. Could just be random luck, but I always found helms to be slightly rarer then other items.

Doesn't ahrim also drop your defense too?

I find ahrim drops my attack/strength slightly under the normal every other run which lessens the effect of the super set.

Well, his defence lowering seems pretty rare, only hits me once every few rounds and level 86 instead of 92 defence doesn't matter much. And he never lowered my strength and attack below their normal levels, as that would need more then 3 lowerings in one fight. Maybe my slightly higher levels (especially magic), compared to yours is the cause of this difference.

To be fair, I don't see that Barrows is anymore anti social than any other high profit activity. If you want to PM/chat you just do it between chests or in the tunnels. Yes this will slow down the amount of chests per hour, but talking while rc'ing slows down the number of essence you craft per hour also.

GWD is riskier than Barrows and again there are only certain points in the kill process when it's convenient to chat.

Very nice :)

Of course, this depends on your stats. And with stats like yours, you'd probably get higher gp per hour at GWD etc.

But I still prefer Barrows :P

Good old Barrows.

Signature3.gif

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

I made 70-80M off of barrows over the summer. The cash is amazing, but you have to stick it out and not quit because you didn't get any items. I usually get one item/day when I'm there, though. I also do about 40 trips.

  • 1 month later...

Today, I did

4 chests with void and godsword: this method sucked

5 chests with verac: this method was decent

2x 6 chests with ahrim and claws of guthix: this methoded owned!

I got very lucky and received karil skirt, ahrim bottom and dharok helm in a row. Around 12 chests later I got a torag helm too. This totals 11m in 21 chests.

Anyway, onto my claws of guthix method, which I am very excited about:

(take claws in stead of dagger, it's better, I tried both).

It's so awesome because I can do the full trip within one overload sip. I start with sipping overload, speccing karil with piety and protect(he dies in 2 claw specs easily). Then I 2 doses of brew to get my hp up a bit. Overload wil restore my stats within 15 sec. Then I change to ahrim and my mace, charge, put on autocast and kill dharok. Get out, drink another dose of spec restore, on to verac. Then mostly I finish the other melee brothers with prayer left, and at the end I try to 2 hit ahrim without prayer, when my spec bar is full again. This mostly works fine. Chests are around 6 min each, first one a bit longer.

You should really try it. It's fun to 2 hit ahrim and karil, and hit 39s on with magic.

<pretty awesome post>

Did overload last in the tunnels too? I found killing the tunnel brother pretty slow because my overload dose would run out before that. I didn't have clawsto spec with though.

And do you think claws of guthix is a lot better than fire surge? Fire surge maxes at 28 instead of 30, but you don't have to cast charge and it gives 30 xp more per cast. Seems worth using instead of cog, even though it's probably more expensive because you use 10 fires and 7 airs instead of 1 fire and 4 airs.

And grats on the drops :P

I always used the tipit guide barrows style, but when I copied urs (as good as possible) I got to 6 chests with like 4 monks and 3 ppots. For the win.

Gonna try black sally now, hope its better than fire wave hehe.

Stupid question, but I set it to Blaze right?

Why do we bake cookies, but cook bacon

Overload doesn't always last in the tunnel. It depends on the location of the chest and what you get kc on and if whether it appears at the chest, or before. Most of the times it does though. And if it doesn't, it's not really a problem for the melee brothers, since you still hit very decent without the extreme mag pot. I bring 8 overload doses anyway, so I can always repot over there, but it makes things a bit more complicated.

I picked claws of guthix since I'm already 99 mage and dont care about xp. I'd probably use fire surge if I wasn't 99 mage yes.

That is reall impressive drops. When ever I did barrows, I could only do 2-3 chest a trip <_<

With this being said however, I still made plently of money in a short amount of time. I remeber I had a notebook full of all my chest in a 3 week span (cant seem to find it :x ) All I remeber is that on average I made around 175k per chest. This is over a 2-3 week span, and I got some great drops including...

4 Dh helms, 2 Guthan helms, 3 Karils skirts and countless other drops. (Only drop I have never got was guthan spear and Verac helm)

If I can find that notebook ill post my drops here... but this was my money maker for me before I stopped playing. I took a 5mill bank and turned it into a 46mill+ bank. For short...

If you can stick with barrows for all the all the good and bad times, serious money can be made.

I have always loved barrows. It is in my opinion, one of the best mini games in runescape. Love it, and I could do it for many months (Or years) to come.

For the past 4 days, Ive been at barrows about 98% of my time at runescape, and this is what I have so far.

EDIT: just found a post I made afew months ago about my barrows trips drops ect....

Im alos missing a few drops. Run 32 I got a torag helm (Run made me 894K0

And Also run 18 I got guthan helm(Made 3.56M)[/hide]

[hide=Method, WARNING BIG PICTURE]

10z7mew.png[/hide]

My method is simple in my opinion.

I pray mage Dharock. Pray melee Karils, and pray range Ahrims. ( On average I only use 1 drink of a prayer pot.)

I then equip my whip and prayer book, and mage in order Verac, Torag, and Guthan. I eat when I need to. Go down into the tuneel heal with guthan, fight my tunnel brother go back up and do a second run.

Reason I love barrows, is 95% of the time I make money every run. Over the past month, Ive increased my bank value from little over 6mill to what it is now.

Basicly, I want you to rate my luck, stats and method if you please. Rate as you see fit [/hide]

Shortyl after thses drops I stopped keeping track of drops ect... but still kept a log in the notebook.
