The new God Guide

Once I read the announcement of the new God Guide here on Tipit I immediately began to read it, as lore is one of my favourite subjects. Nicely written I must say, although I spotted some errors and inconsistencies. Here is a list:

Saradomin : Although technically not wrong, I'm not sure we should present as a fact that Saradomin is "good". I'm sure you are all aware of the debate going on regarding Saradomin and Zamorak, but it's entirely up to you. By the way, Zamorak is spelled as Zamarok in this article.

Zamorak: Same as above, but with "evil".

Guthix: Some minor inconsistencies in referring to Guthix as "it" or "him"

Apmeken: Never found any evidence of her being evil...

Scabaras: It's a bit of a difficult case, but I would not say he is evil. He was a bit of a rebel yes, and defied the Edicts of Guthix, but his following only desires to be alone and so reach enlightenment.

Armadyl: It could maybe help if Armadyl is called "God of Justice" in the article. Justice and Order are seperate things though, and some think Armadyl is less radical in achieving his goals than Saradomin is in his.

Bandos: It says in the article he created the Goblins. This is not true. He only brought them from their homeworld (Yu'biusk) to Gielinor.

But for the most part it's a great guide for people to learn more of the Gods, so kudos! :)

Due to my epic stats, I have now started WGS (but I still hate spoilers).

Evidence suggests that the desert gods are minor deities and thus unaffected by the guthixian edicts; which would null you're scarabas point; but I would agree there is no proof he is evil. The only proven evil desert god is indeed the Devouor. But here flags msut go up because we have learnt she has strayed from her original purpose/role and become evil.

Also Sara/Zammy good/evil thing - the debate is that people define them as the god of good and the god of evil, instead of order/wisdom and chaos/destruction. While some facts do throw up questions to saradomin being out and out good guy and zammy being bad guy; as the facts stand their general alignments are right as good and evil.

I'd suggest instead of changing them, in Saradomin specifically make a note about how he does tend towards fighting etc so some question him being "good"

I've made the said changes, apologies for the slowness!

I followed PawClaw's prescriptions; really, I'm not interested in having a drawn out ethical debate in this guide, but rather trying to illustrate the general nature of the gods in broad strokes for maximum understanding.

Thanks!

On the topic of good vs. evil, oftentimes you can fix this by simply replacing them as being mainly "protagonists" or "antagonists" in quest storylines, or other such small stories.

For example, Scarabas isn't evil, but he is certainly the antagonist in a few of the desert quests.

Zamorak is definitely an antagonist, since your character usually works against him (the Elven Storyline, and the Myreque Storyline, for example). This, however, gets a bit complex since Zamorak isn't ALWAYS the antagonist, but he usually is. That's worth noting.

Protagonist and antagonist have no bearing to good/evil

Protagonist simply means the lead character(s)

Antagonist is those who get in the protagonists way.

A good example would be a program like Dexter.

Dexter is the protagonist, but he is quite "evil" and enjoys murder etc, the "good" guys (eg the police etc) trying to track him down are the antagonists.

Yeah...exactly. That's the point.

Oftentimes when we say "good" or "evil", we actually mean "for us" (protagonist) or "against us" (antagonist) because in real life there is no real line separating good deeds from evil deeds, but instead many shades of grey. So it is wrong to call Scarabas "evil", because as the OP stated, it's relative. We, the player, see him as evil because...well, his minions did try to kill us, right? Also, our allies (Sophanem) consider them "evil", and therefore we tend to see Scarabites as "evil" as well, when in reality they are really only protecting themselves and exhibiting their culture.
