Big_Stingman
I was just thinking the other day what it would be like if Runescape offered lifetime membership for purchase. I have heard of some other games doing this (Don't remember exactly which ones) and thought it would be interesting if Jagex instituted this. So my question to you is if Jagex did offer lifetime membership, would you buy it? I might guess it would be around $200. So would you buy for that price? If not, what would you be willing to pay for it? If at all...?
Seabourch
Probably but only if it allows me to have more than one account as a member. As in, I can have more than one member account using that money. Perhaps a limit of three to avoid making any losses.

spooferfish
It is likely I would, but as others said, I would want to have multiple accounts. At least able to shift a monthly membership between them.

There would be no reason to waste cash in anticipation of playing this game til you are dead. There is still no promise on how long Runescape has left in it. Kimberly
in fine print:"if you buy this your character will be unfairly banned" I remember an incident like that. You wouldn't happen to be referring to the allegedly innocent players who were perma-banned for giving Jagex information regarding the party hat dupe, would you? That would be my biggest fear, honestly: the threat of being perm-banned. As much as Jagex's customer service has improved over the years, there's still the off-chance that a hacker might get you banned and your appeals would be denied. Not to mention the fact that, to reap the full benefits of a lifetime membership, you'd have to play this game for 33 years approximately. There's just too many things that make an option like this, should they ever offer it, unappealing.

The proposed price for this lifetime membership is a $200 one time fee. Thus, we divide $200/$5 and receive the answer in months, 40. 40 months is translated to 3.3 years, or 3 years and 4 months. So you were off by a factor of 10. 11th to 99 Summoning85th to 99 Runecrafting

Goalie
It would be tempting, but I'd be hesitant because of the variables that could come into play. I may quit RuneScape, and there's alot of money that I have wasted. Also, how sure are we that RuneScape is going to be around for our lifetime? I remember in a press conference in 2007, Jagex saying that RuneScape would be their number one priority for the next five years. Perhaps Mechscape, or whatever they have changed the name to might be the new game. Of course, your membership would most likely be transferable and usable between the two though. kingbrooks
For a start lifetime membership is pointless as the current method of automatically renewing your monthly purchase is available. Buying lifetime membership would simply be like this but you wouldn't be able to get alot of your money back when you quit. hohto
I wouldn't. 200 dollars (as used as an example) is quite a heavy single investment and if it takes me years to benefit from it, I wouldn't bother. Paying a price worth a beer at a club per month is nothing, but that is something. The time range is far too long for me to actually even think about it: using the "$200/$5 " ratio mentioned earlier it would take 40 months to breakeven. After 50 months you would have saved 50 dollars. Now, 50 months equals to 4 years and 2 months. That's a 50 dollar save in a bit over 1,5k days. For me, those years are a far too long period of time to plan it. I got no guarantees I would be playing still then and it's also unsure wether RS exists then, at least in the form it is now. It's easy enough to just let them automaticly bill my credit card once a month and then cancel it when I won't need it anymore. Moneywise it isn't any worse opinion seeing how it would take me years to benefit from this idea suggested here but it would save me money if I decided to quit, got banned or something. Plus 5 dollars per month is nothing but 200 dollars at once is something. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
Rainy_Day
I'd assume it would be more than $200, but I'm not sure I would. Everyone is bound to get bored of the game and leave before they get the money's worth. I doubt I'll be playing in my late 20s, 30s, 40s etc. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)RIP Michaelangelopolous
Youmu
Although unlimited membership does have its pros (you don't need to worry about membership expiring), there is a big con. What if you decide to quit? You just wasted $150/200/whatever the price is. This can also be a bit problematic for people that own multiple accounts. Maximusa
200 pounds would be good value for life time membership. Thats basically 5 years then whatever else is free. I think it deserves a few extra features too when joining up though. Atleast a sub forum. If I had that offer a few years ago then possibly I would of chosen it. I not so sure about today.. Even if I am playing in 5 years I just dont think I need membership the whole time of it to be worth while When I first got membership and had alot more stuff to do I think I might of done. Then I would have rest life for free to come and go. I think jagex would make alot of money from this offer tbh from people who just quit so its not a bad idea. The people always have the option to come back and be members too. Mercifull
Lifetime memberships are usually only offered by companies who are failing and desperately need a cash injection to stay afloat. There is no long term profit to be make with life memberships. If a person plays for 3 years at $5 a month they would give Jagex $180. A life membership at a theoretical cost of $200 would mean that Jagex make a loss every month on anyone subscribing for more than 3 years and 4 months. Big_Stingman
Thanks for all the responses guys. As you guys all clearly pointed out, there are pros and cons. If you KNOW for 100% that you will be playing this game for more then the next 4 years then it might be worth the investment, but if not then the offer isn't for you. It looks like some of you think that it would be a waste of money, but for hard core fans it could save them lots of cash in the long run. Personally, I would do it when I have a job and my own income, and only if I have any time left to play Runescape. Otherwise, I just get membership when I want to and have the time, such as in the summer. I am about to graduate HS though and go off to college...which probably means I will have even less time with a job/school/etc. Still I might consider investing in it if I had the money.
