Why don't I bruise?

I've been meaning to ask this for a while, and haven't gotten around to asking my doctor (don't tell me to ask my doctor).

But anyways, I haven't gotten a bruise since around age 5 from what I can remember. Whether it be roughing around with friends, falling off a bike, getting hit by paintballs/baseball bats/balls, or anything else, I simply don't bruise. Sure it might be red for a couple hours, and even might welt up if the injury is bad enough, but I just don't bruise!

It's not something I'm worried about, it's just a little peculiar. I remember asking a question on Yahoo Answers about it a while ago, wherein I got a couple dumbfounded nurses left me with no real answers.

I'm healthy, have good circulation, skinny, and don't have any diseases, oh and my mother bruises very easily.

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to biology, so any educated guesses would be much appreciated.

He didn't say anything about sparkling. So probs not :)

A guess as to why you don't bruise, you're one tough man.

Hey. HEEEY. Vampires. DON'T. SPARKLE!

Rest assured Dizzle, I'm well aware.

It's because of their special diamond suntan lotion.

Anyways, I'm almost certain I'm not a vampire. Although I have fantasized about living in the wilderness and procuring nutrients from wild buffalo by drinking lifeblood straight from their neck.

Not hardcore enough

But in biology terms, I'm pretty sure it does not mean you have a healthy circulatory system... humans bruise for a reason. When people take Aspirin (a blood thinner), they bruise more easily, but I don't think the opposite is logical. The answer to your question can't be an easy one, maybe you're just special in an extremely unfascinating way.

What is the reason for bruises? I can't think of any evolutionary benefits of it off-hand.

It's just blood from damged blood vessels and some connective tissue [actually just slightly "ripped"] showing up slightly underneath the skin. Because it's just blood that's been collected under the skin, maybe you have thick skin and you just cant see that discoloration, that black/blue.

As a test, let me just whomp you with a hammer. Clinical study, you see. If you dont bruise then, well, it's a problem.

...because somebody popped your blood vessel. I guess there's no "reason", its just internal bleeding at the skin level, and I doubt that you have stronger veins than everybody else. Try shooting yourself in the leg with a paintball gun to be sure.

I guess thick skin has to be the answer. And trust me Adrenal & Fast, over the years my friends and I have conducted numerous of like experiments. In fact, the only reason I made this topic is because it was on my mind from when my friend payed me a dollar for another friend to hit me in the arm three times as hard as he could with a drumstick two days ago.

And Fast, of course there are obvious reasons why bruises occur, I'm just asking if there are any benefits to it evolutionarily speaking.

On this note, I don't remember the last time I got a bruise.

Even when I got slammed in the face with a spinning bottomfist suring karate (my partner, well, she decided not to look where her arm was going). And that knocked me over and sent my glasses flying.

Mind, I don't get injured all that often, but I don't remember being bruised ever.*

Wow, I thought it would be more uncommon than that, I also don't get bruised easily. I remember having a bruise, but that's very rare even if I hurt myself quite badly almost to the point of bleeding.

Yeah, unusually tough/dense/thick skin is probably the problem. Your skin either covers up the bruise so that it doesn't show period, or it soaks up enough of the damage that you don't get one in the first place. Either that or your blood vessels are tougher than most other people's. Either way, you're probably pretty interesting.

But, I can see my veins all the way up my arms. So I doubt my skin is particularly thick.

Maybe I need to get hurt more often....
