99 Range with Chins

I am considering getting 99 range using red chins.

Since it seems to be very popular, I would like some help with some numbers and strategies.

From what I hear, 1k chins averages about 125k exp?

And the best place to train is mummies in chaos tunnels or monkeys in ape atoll tunnel?

I am 76 range right now so I need about 11.6m exp so if these numbers are right, then I will need about 92.8k red chins which will cost a little under 60m along with prayer pots.

Is this correct?

Well I don't know much about the calculations, but I know one thing.

Grey chins cost 50% less then reds, and still give 3/4 of the exp a red chin would give. In the long run (and for you it is a long run) you could save money, lots of money.

You could end up spending 40 mil on chins and p pots, for 99 range. Sounds good to me ;-)

Money isn't an issue for me lol.

Also, what outfit would you recommend?

One that balances more prayer bonus over a range bonus or the other way around?

Well first get 80/85 range some other way, otherwise you are really wasting chins. But I think most recommend full void, SW cape, ranger/snakeskin boots, fury, archer ring, and an unholy book.

With red chins, 91+ range, extreme range potions, and geyser titan I got on average 270-280 exp per chin. Seeing as how you're lower than all of those stats I had when I chinned, I think you should still be able to at least get 180 exp per chin at your current level. I may be way off, seeing as how I never used chins much before what I have now, but it should be 200+ at level 85 at least.

The best place is the ape atoll monkies. Although you don't get drops, the much quicker exp more than makes up for the extra money spent, as you have a lot more time to do other things. There is a guide in the AOW, http://forum.tip.it/topic/222890-melee-ranging-and-a-slight-diversion/, which has an excellent set up and explains what to do pretty well. He also has a formula to calculate how much exp you should get per chin.

Taken from the guide directly:

Numbers

At lvl 99, one can get up to 280 xp/red chin, and 360K xp/hr.

At lvl n for all n > 70, one can get up to 280(n/99)^1.1 xp/red chin, and 360K(n/99)^1.1 xp/hr.

For grey chinchompas, multiply the above numbers by three quarters.

The usage of combat familiars can add up to about 20K xp/hr.

So 76 range with red chins, you should get approximately 209 exp per red chin (unless I messed up the calculation somewhere). This should give you a rough idea of what to expect, after getting used to chinning of course.

At level 94 with red chins, eagle eye and ranged pots I was averaging 190xp per chin, at level 96 I averaged 195xp per chin, and at level 98 i averaged 200xp per chin. The equation quoted above isn't accurate off, they come from a 200m xp ranged player..but they're quite off the mark. I wore full void, fury, ranger boots, ring of life (suggested over archer imo), unholy book and red chins. For each load (with 70 prayer and a holy wrench) I brought 1500 chins, 4 ranged potions (4), 19 prayer pots (4), 1 super restore (1 dose will suffice), 1 summoning pouch of ur choice (also summon a familiar before u head to ape atoll), holy wrench, tele tab, and monkey greegree -- with this setup.. I am done out of chins at the same time I'm out of prayer potions. You'll throw approx. 1400 chins per hour, so that should help you estimate how many you'll need. I used approx. 35k red chins, 430 prayer pots (4), 100 ranged pots (4), 6 super restore (4) and 50 familiars to go from 92-99 ranged. Hope this helps

Seriously? Were you doing it at the right spot :-? At level 85 or so with just void and grey chins, no familiar, normal range pots, I was getting at least 170 exp per chin. Red chins would most likely have given a bit more than 200 at that time. Although this was only 3 trips or so (I got bored and couldn't stand it back then), the exp was consistent. From 91 to 96 I used only 12500 chins, getting approximately 3.4m exp. Maybe extreme range potions help quite a bit, but I still think your exp rates are quite low for those levels/equipment.
