Next generation consoles and games.

This is a thread discussing things about next gen consoles. Will you buy one? What do you want from the PS4/Wiii/Xbox 720? What kind of games do you think will be invented for them?

I personally hope there will be virtual reality, put on goggles and you play as the character, kind of thing. Call of duty in 3d? Sweet. Although I will either be too old/dead by the time they invent anything that cool, I still think they will be pretty awesome. What do you think?

Will you buy one?

What do you want to see?

I'm not great at starting topics, but I think you get it

yeah.. the only other game ill be really waiting for to come out this gen is fable 3. other than that no other game (xbox or ps3 or wii) that interests me

i'll get the new xbox depending on:

my friends getting it

no RRoD 2.0

no more online fee (though i expect sony to follow in MS's footsteps with premium membership)

more streamlined online experience

mass effect staying exclusive

fable staying exclusive

sony keeping the dual shock design (it was good when i had 10 yr old hands.. but come on)

oh and [bleep] nintendo, why anyone between 18 and 65 would ever get the wii is beyond me.

Oh god, I just shudder thinking about another Console War in the near future...

The only particular new thing I see would be 3D. But that's not even that great. Natal seems too advance to be cheaply mass-produced for next-gen.

Expect expensive consoles and games too. $75 games ftw.

Consoles are already as good as they can ever be - or at least should be. Games already look better than real life, and I really don't want 3D in my gaming. It doesn't really feel right (although I haven't seen Avatar yet, so maybe my opinions will change).

PlayStation can update controller if necessary without a new system.

X-Box could become more reliable / better looking with more ease.

Wii is different. I don't think games would EVER get made if its graphics were cutting-edge. So it's one or the other. And motion can be fun!! :twss:

Graphically I think it's fine, though I don't really like most artists take on "realistic graphics", as in, gray and brown.

Anyway, I just want game consoles that can handle more. I've always wanted to see a WWII game where every aspect of the war is played. People would be able to play as pilots, gunners, foot soldiers, officers would command in a grand-strategy style, everything happens just as in RL (except modified to be more fun, obviously), just a perfect WWII SIM. The possibilities for that tech are endless, but we're probably several generation away from that.

the (very few) times i have a girl over, i put on a chick flick... i never really understood how the "play wii" part fit in that whole thing

what's funny is the hottest asian girl i know has a ps3 and loves call of duty...

"Friendly" competition they say...besides I prefer to do some sort of physical activity with a girl rather than just sit there.

I have to agree with you; gamer technology is roughly the same as it ever will be. The only difference will be the concepts of games' plots and gameplay. As for 3D, it's been in and out of fads since the 1950s and it hasn't stablized yet. Nor is it regardless of what the movie, TV, and now game companies think.

That's a big problem I have with current games. All the 1337 graphics and shix but no large, complex map or long storyline or more in-depth. I remember when it took days or maybe weeks to play a game enjoyably. Even at my slow but fun pace I finish games within two or three days. Short storylines ftl.

You get the wii to entertain your girlfriend. Period.

Maybe I like Nintendo's games? We can't all have the same tastes. Nintendo know's how to make great titles. It just needs the third party support.

I think I would wait. There was a BIG step up from say the PS2 to the Xbox 360/PS3, ok there might be 3D or something but its not going to be as big a jump.

Probably won't buy a Nintendo console, because it will probably just be another console aimed at 10 year olds and the elderly, because, sadly, thats what sells.

I definately wouldn't buy a Microsoft console if they pulled the same kind of [cabbage] they did with the Xbox launch. Or a Sony console if its ridiculously overpriced again.

Come to think of it both proper consoles [bleep]ed up at launch pretty badly.

I wouldn't count Nintendo out yet. What if they made a good console? Can you say Pokemon?

Pokemon = Fail. They were fun at first, but they never bring anything new to the table besides a few new Pokemon each time, which could easily be done more frequently and more profitably with frequent cheap DLC.

This goes out to Nintendo for their franchises, and EA for their sports games: STOP REPACKAGING THE SAME GAMES EVERY YEAR!!!!!!!

You are right about the pokemon, but if you think the new metroid, zelda or mario will be just worth of dlc, you are either moronic or trollin.

And Nintendo is still the greatest games developer if you ask me, and i would count on a new handheld this year and a new home console next year.

Next 360 is bound to be natal, considering the effort they put in it.

Next sony i'm pretty unsure... but i wouldnt count on anything before 2012.

I never really saw the appeal of games like Metroid, and Zelda has been a series of remakes with a few cool things added each time.

As for Natal, I don't know. I prefer a conventional system from Xbox, and I believe M$ has said it's being made for the 360, not to replace it. Besides, EndWar showed us that voice commands don't work.

I'm okay with your metroid opinion (everyone has one, so i can't and i won't blame you) but zelda's have been pretty much completely different from every game of the series (even though i would like the bow and slinghot to give place to a crossbow). Saying every zelda is a remake is like saying every Final Fantasy was a remake.

We don't mention FF round h'ya...

I don't know why anyone likes it, but to me, turn based combat means instantly bad game.

I will automatically despise any game that contains any of the following.

1. Turn based combat.

2. Escort missions.

3. Time limits.

Have you played heavy rain? In depth, and awesome storyline. Even from just the demo I was completely immersed and wanting more. Have you played the MGS series at all? Some of the best storylines I've ever seen in games. Uncharted 2 also has a great story, though it is pretty damn short. I also hear ME2 is a great story as well.

So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth,

These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf,

Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in,

Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything,

Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel,

Tear up the book and write your own damn rules,

Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got,

And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut,

And realise that the other world that you're always looking for,

Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door,

And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas,

After all, you were put on the earth to do this,

So shine your light so bright that all can see,

Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be.

The last examples you gave are spot on, but Heavy Rain, while having good srotyline, doesn't have good gameplay, it looks more like those interactive movies from the Sega CD. It would have been much better if it didn't forget it was a game instead of a movie.

Heavy Rain is an adventure game.

I wouldn't bet on new consoles anytime soon, they still are pushing the tech that the 360 and PS3 have.

You must despise Chrono Trigger than considering it had all 3 at one time or another in the game.

but zelda's have been pretty much completely different from every game of the series

Same formula in every single zelda game, of course they are a lot alike each other.

That's what we said after the Gamecube.

But now they have the income and have already said their next console will be HD, so i wouldn't count it out yet. (And whats the hate about NGC? It had better hardware, just not 3rd party support)

Probably not. I've had my PS1 for over 10 years and I still think it's the best console there is.

One reason is that the games seems to get easier and easier. I also hate too good graphics for some reason. My favorite graphics are simple, clear, and usually colorful too (at least compared to these kinds of games). And I usually get a headache from 3D effects :(

The only current-gen console I have is DS, and I chose it because of the price and very good games (New Super Mario Bros, Final Fantasy remakes etc). I don't have plans to purchase any more consoles. Or maybe, if there will be a REALLY good one with REALLY good games, and fits in my budget... :)

I'd also like to see more emphasis on storyline and emotional attachment to the game. I know for a fact Majora's Mask and most Tales of games did this very well, and I've only heard good things about the MGS series and Bioshock.
