Any wireless broadband users here?

I use wireless broadband provider here in Australia, and I know these exist across the globe.

I'm wondering if anyone else reading this uses such a provider, and if you do, does it use Navini products, such as the wireless modem (commonly known as a "wabbit")?

Do you have problems with reception, timeouts, latency, etc etc etc?

If you are still answering yes, then keep reading. I may have a solution for you.

While reading a broadband forum for Australian ISPs, I found a nifty little idea that really seems to work - the pizza box reflector.

I used the box the modem came in - it's roughly 30cm x 30cm in size, and once cut folds out nicely into the corner shape you need. A shoebox or something similar would work. Line it with aluminum foil.

Go here and download the NavDiag tool: http://www.navini.com/pages/support/userdownloads.htm <- you'll notice it's provided in windows, Linux and Mac formats.. alot of companies have stuff to learn from this mob.

Now, test your modem using the tool without the reflector in place. Lower reception readings would commonly be an absolute sync strength in the -90dBm's.

Now put the reflector in place and keep rotating your wabbit until you find the best possible reading. I managed to get mine down to -86dBm from a max of 98 - that may not sound like much but it makes a huge difference.

It all may sound stupid but I believe it works, and works very well.

It's not the same thing - I'm talking about broadband over a transmitted signal..

i use a wireless router to get an internet connection to my x-box and i made a little aluminum foil dish for the antenia (i can't speel, the little metal thingy that picks up the conection). It is still fairly laggy so i might try the box thing. I think that would catch more waves.

In terms of Australia we are talking about Unwired, IBurst etc.

Precisely. :P

I'll get a few pics of it and post them soon.

Edit: Here we go..

Notice the height. I am around 2kms from the tower, and this is the best position so far.

Here you can see how simple it is - look how much time I spent on it (like, 7 minutes).
