Does it matter if i dont have 73 mining because they are my slayer task and can i cannon them?

It's single way combat, so you won't power through the task, but I'm not sure if it can be used effectively (Couldn't hurt to try it out :-P ).

Let me compare dark beasts to living rocks, because both have low defenses (dark beasts are weak to whip at least)

both are in single combat

and both have really high hitpoints

 

if anything dark beasts would have higher ranged defense than living rocks

 

a cannon @ dark beasts boosts my kill rate from ~110 dark beasts per hour with overloads and turmoil, to 160 dark beasts per hour

I'm assuming that you don't use overloads or turmoil, so the cannon could very well boost your kill rate from ~80 dark beasts to 130 dark beasts per hour

 

the percent ratio boost should be roughly similar. Expect an 40% boost in kill rates?

I've cannoned them for slayer before and I found it good because it sped up a really slow task so even if your not getting much hp xp your getting alot of slayer xp.

MIning them is what makes them so profitable for me, but no, you don't need to mine them. If it was a requirement, you wouldn't have gotten the task.

 

Anyways, the cannon would speed the task up, just keep in mind it isn't multi way, and you'll be fighting the Strikers (140) a lot more often, since they don't have to move to hit you like the protectors (120).

A cannon will just about always speed up a task, multicombat or single combat. Morionic explained it very well, that since they have such high hp but low defence, it is quite beneficial to use a cannon, assuming you're willing to cannon them. So it is worth it.

 

And as other people have mentioned, mining them only gives more profit, but slows down your task.

I strongly advise mining them, it's a very profitable activity. A month or two ago I calculated the gp/h and mining them earned me 1.0-1.2 mil/h (if you use only the time spend mining one, not the time to kill and mine one, which is fair if you want to know whether mining them is profitable). This was just after the Kuradel update, minerals dropped about 100 gp until now, so the gp/h is a bit lower nowadays, but still an estimated 600-700k/h. This is what you earn mining them, the normal drops are not calculated.

 

So, if you need the cash, I would advise you to mine them on a slayer task.

I personally prefer to alternate between two 120 spawns in the north-west. You can then mine the corpses WHILE you are killing the next spawn. This means you do not slow down since most of the time you 1-hit or 2-3-hit it anyway. If worst comes to worst, you will have to attack the 140 nearby to keep up constant combat. But really, you spend no extra time mining the corpses, so it's free profit.

 

Plus it beats running up and down the west side killing 120s as they spawn.

You dont have to level up mining. I fight them with 66 mining meaning I cannot mine the corpses and I still come away with profit. granted, I melee, though im nhot sure if it would be different

They are still VERY slow with a cannon and without mining the corpses. I highly recommend you block them.

Pretty much my view. They take so long its annoying and its pretty much impossible to kill them at a decent rate.
