Mantux31
Sony Vegas, Adobe Premier Pro. Lots of Videomakers started their job with Windows Movie Maker. If you're not familiar with editing and such, use WMM as your first editor. :)

dsavi
More than you are probably willing to pay. Well, if you want the real (Pro) version anyway it's like $600ish. There's a n00b version of it, ($75 or so) but personally I'd stick with something free. N00b versions of anything (Like Photoshop Elements) don't feel like honest products to me. I mean, there are programs like Cinelerra which are free but complete overkill, even for most stuff I do.
Karvinen
Avisynth is free, but it's text based.

Nadril
Sony Vegas, Adobe Premier Pro. These two. I've used both, I think I prefer Premier Pro just because of it's nice integration with Photoshop. If you already know Photoshop it's pretty easy to understand.

As a beginner, go with Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere Elements ($60-80 bucks). "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is." Skeptical
Nothing is better than Sony Vegas. As has been said, if you're starting off, try out Windows Movie Maker for a bit.
