noble_aloof
hey. i know a lot of people on tip.it don't listen to rap or hip hop. i myself listen to quite a bit of it. i'd first like to state that i think lil wayne was "okay" and had a few decent lyrics but he was far from my favorite rapper. the only song of his i really liked was the sky is the limit freestyle and his verse in "forever". that out of the way, i thought i'd post some obvious and some minor rappers who could make a comeback or a ridiculous debut and take the game by the horns. all following information is a mix of fact and opinion. [hide=Drake] Canadian, was on degrassi. never talks about gangs, guns, or violence for that matter. taking rap in the right direction and providing us with decent choruses and verses along the way chance of taking over the game: Very likely [/hide] [hide=Kanye West] Had some great tracks and is a great producer, still hasn't recovered from the taylor swift fiasco chance of taking over the game: moderate [/hide] [hide=Lupe Fiasco] Makes great music, great flow, deep lyrics, and has had a few huge hits. somehow can't attain mainstream popularity. maybe his next album will be his ticket to the top chance of taking over the game: moderate [/hide] [hide=Guru] the MC of gangstarr. top notch lyrics and he never gets old. recently suffered a heart attack. is recovering. although he is over 40 years old, with his new mixtape (dropping this summer) he could blow up. you never know chance of taking over the game: low [/hide] [hide=nas] Hasn't had a good song since hero. for some reason isn't collaborating with the new kids in the game. under the radar of most critics and fans chance of taking over the game: low [/hide] [hide=ludacris] Yes, ludacris. rapper from the dirty south making quite a dirty comeback. first he does a song with justin beiber and now he's dissing tiger woods? he's got a ridiculous flow and he's back, thats for sure chance of taking over the game: moderate [/hide] [hide=souljah boiii] he's playing xbox right now ill get back to you on that [/hide] just a short list. feel free to rate/discuss. ill be adding to the list tomorrow. theone_ian
im surprised you put guru there lol, i havent heard from him in a while, and i doubt he will appeal to the mainstream fans. Most likely Drake, but nicki minaj is someone to look out for .

K4ylan
I'm going to say Drake, Kanye is still getting heat from the Taylor Swift incident. Also Timbaland seems to be getting out there more than usual. ~~~The Harpy List~~~Harpy Facts~~~It's Super Effective~~~The Beginning~~~Harpy Therapy Center~~~Alg~~~Jedi Harpy~~~Rohirrim~~~Attenuation~~~
Skully
Kanye alreayd was pretty big on the mainstream hip hop scene, you are aware of this right? Also, Wayne isn't gone, you know he'll still make new stuff, prison or not. T.I. did it. But yes, the future is bright for Drake, but how in the hell could you forget KiD CuDi?

Lemeja
Wayne did a good job of leaving behind his protege Drake, who's new album just happens to be coming out pretty soon. I think if Lupe was going to take over the game he would've done it a long time ago, not that he's bad. Just not really going anywhere. Kanye will probably have some hits towards the end of the year but his image is pretty much permanently stained. I haven't even heard of Guru and I think you only put the rest of them on there because you happen to like them :P. Kid Cudi should explode this year, at least I hope he does. T.I. is also returning and I'm sure he'll have a bunch of songs whining about how bad jail was :|
1230abcz
I've always liked Ludacris. His lyrics are nice and actually make sense. Drake is cool, but way too generic. I agree he makes some catchy stuff, but it all gets really old really fast. Too much of the same ol' same ol'.

noble_aloof
wasn't expecting so many replies! and i know guru is a long shot.. obviously i'll be putting eminem, cudi, jay-z, maybe others such as common even though they have no chance in hell of "taking over". i eventually want to form a relevant list of about 20+ rappers so we can take a look at them and see what happens in the next few months. btw- solja boy was a joke i just find his vlogs on youtube hilarious. stevepole
Personally I don't one person is top dog in rap. If any of the people you listen are to be on top it would be Kanye because he already is.. The whole Taylor Swift thing, in all honesty, didn't really hurt him. He still has one of the most highly anticipated CD of the year. Drake will be huge but no way is a new guy going to be sitting on the top. Lupe, I mean doesn't really care about being on top, he is all about his music. Kid Cudi, because of Kanye, will be sitting high but how high depends on oh his second CD. For me Kid Cudi's first CD didn't live up to the mixtape, but I'm still like the biggest Cudi fan. I think what will be most interesting is how Drake does without Wayne.
Skully
Wayne will still get studio time, he's not "gone".
pegpenguin
I have to say I prefer Lupe Fiasco, his stuff just goes down so smooth, I can actually enjoy. Eminem needs to stop making music, seriously. He's not very good, neither is Kanye, and soulhja idiot or whatever should never be allowed to touch an instrument >.> But I don't listen to rap that much, but if there was more people with Lupe's style I most definitely would get into it lol
Saru Inc
Souljah Boy is dance music, basically. He's classified as rap, but no one listens to him for his gay [wagon] rap, only his gay [wagon] dances. LIL Wayne is the best, howeverI do think Drake is right up there. Haven't heard much of the other artists, Ludacris is ok I guess. If T.I. can put out another successful album, he might pick up a lot more momentum. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Iamdan
I have pretty low expectations of mainstream rap. Unless eminem comes out with something good, 'hoods gets bigger or immortal technique signs onto a label we're going to see more crap like lil wayne and soulja boi. Eminem needs to stop making music, seriously. He's not very good, neither is Kanye, and soulhja idiot or whatever should never be allowed to touch an instrument >.> Eminem's earlier stuff is actually pretty good.the way i am, my name is, stan etcThe only person on this list I actually moderately like is Nas. ^

assassin_696
Kanye has more talent in his little finger than most of the other people you listed. And what about Jay-Z, is he not considered rap anymore or something? "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
