Living Rock Caverns

I'm interested in mining at the Living Rock. I'm having trouble locating any posts discussing this. Could you explain what might be the most efficient equipment (familiars as well) to bring, as well as any tips on strategies, or at least point me to a useful guide. Thanks for all of your help in advance.

Well from what I know and see about it you will want the best mining/bob familiar you can. Seeing as you can't use a yak then take a lava titan for the mining boost. D pick really supposedly is epic here and therefore should be used to max exp. World 84 *I THINK* is the unofficial one for the mining and fishing however gets extremely crowded. If you mine alone the strikers can be annoying, but the protectors easily get trapped on the rocks you're mining.

That's all I know from observing what goes on down there whilst I'm on slayer tasks.

Reacting impulsively and saying what's on your mind feels oh so good.. for a little, until you realize you just started WWIII.

I usually equip Varrock armor 3 (it can give extra ore even in the Caverns), my best pickaxe, and my best defensive gear in every other slot. You'll want a lava titan summoned at all times for the mining boost. There's a small obelisk near the entrance to the Cavern, so you can bring multiple pouches without worrying about summon pots.

Try mining on world 84, which is the official Living Rock Caverns world. If you mine on world 84, you won't need food or additional healing of any sort--there are enough people mining at any time that the monsters will usually be occupied and you can mine free and clear. Join a chat such as "Mining Golds" if you want to get updates on which rocks are up and which are down. (SWU means that the southwest gold deposit is up, for instance). If you don't want to join a chat, just run along with the streams of other miners. If you are worried about taking damage, you can equip an Enhanced Excalibur and do the special if you get low on LP. Miners in world 84 always bless graves, so you don't have to worry too much about dying. Stick with concentrated gold and don't bother with coal or living rock remains.

Thanks for the tips! What about a ring of life? Would that be suitable to take, or another ring?

ROL couldn't hurt, especially if you're still getting used to the caverns. I usually equip Slayer Ring for Pollivneach tele (my house is there), but ring is pretty much whatever is most useful to you.

I experienced Wearing Varrock armour is not necessary to get double gold ores, I get them anyway.

I used to mine on world 84, but it's so crowded it gets laggy for me, especially when switching rocks when everybody is running. Now I just use any random world I am already playing in. Although sometimes you have to dodge some protectors or strikers, but the time spend doing this is neglectable in my experience. If you pay attention to the sounds while switching to (eg) other websites, there is no real risk involved mining alone in my experience (however if you forget to do that, it's quite dangerous).

My gear:

- Guthans set for occassional healing (using excalibur maybe is a good or better alternative, haven't tested it yet)

- Rune pick axe (but dragon is better, saving for one atm)

- Lava Titan

- Combat bracelat for teleport to monastry (only a short walk to caverns from there)

- Glory and ring of dueling (for teleport to bank, i use two options cause sometimes I forget to get a new teleport jewel if the old one runs out of charges ))

I choose not to bring extra pouches because it only costs little extra time to resupply and therefore doesn't justify the inventory spots taken by the pouches. If you bank you walk by the small obelisk in dwarven mines to replenish your summoning points. Banking is not significantly slower as walking to the obelisk to replenish sum points from any mining spot in the living rock caverns and the extra ores you can mine might compensate for that too. (I usually don´t mine longer then the hour my lava titan lasts, so I didn't test what is actually better, this are just my thoughts about bringing extra pouches)

I usually take my casual gear (Cook cape and hood, Varrock Armor, Dagon'hai robe bottom, barrows gloves, dragon boots, glory, d pick, and obby shield), that's what I usually walk around in anyways, and mining gold, I very rarely take any damage. There's so many people in w84 that you can easily switch to forums and stay alive. As stated above, best mining familiar you have (I have Obsidian Golem).

To make a counter-point with the post above, you're sacrificing a couple minutes to go and resupply, where as if you just take a few pouches, you'll easily compensate for those few slots gone in the time it takes to go and resupply, I think.

Varrock Armour 2 or 3 is very useful -- you can get double ores without it, but they're much more common with the armour and it's possible to get triple ores when you use it (extra from rock and extra from armour at the same time). Take either Obsidian Golem or Lava Titan depending on your summoning level -- the beasts of burden aren't as helpful as you'd think. World 84 is possible, or you could use the clan chats "mining golds" or "mininggolds" -- look them up on the RSOF.

Also, and this is one of the best training methods, even though it isn't well known -- equip a fire/lava battlestaff, bring a large stack of nature runes, and wear goldsmithing gauntlets. You can superheat the gold ores without interrupting mining, allowing you to mine at nearly full speed while also getting smithing and magic xp at the same time -- if you ever want 99 in either of those skills, you're wasting your time by not superheating while mining. The only negative is that it requires A LOT more attention.

Dragon Pickaxe increases speeds up mining by about 15%, so if you plan on a lot of mining, get it.

Mine with the crowd -- the more people on a rock, the longer it lasts. If you solo mine, you'll make that one collapse faster, meaning it's more likely that all rocks are down at the same time, slowing everyone down. Teamwork is essential down there, which is why a clan chat is better than just mining on world 84 -- it's very coordinated so that everyone can mine at the same rock at the same time. Also, in those chats, there are often people coming to the mines who are willing to bring food, so armour and healing aren't as necessary.

That's all that I can think of off the top of my head.
