Humble Beginnings

Everyone at one point in their Runescape careers has been called the "n" word before. Whether that was "newbie" or "noob" depends a lot on how one acted during their very first days. While some choose to figure out all their is to know by themselves, others opt to ask for help whenever necessary. Myself? Well, I read a lot of guides to say the least, which is probably a lesser chosen option. But my question to you is this - what were your first days of Runescape like? Good? Bad? Share your stories and experiences here.

I learned the Runescape world by mapping it out with a sheet of graph paper, which ended up being horribly out-of-ratio. I didn't learn about Tip.It until over a year into playing.

I still remember watching my friend get killed by a dark wizard in Draynor.

I remember my first day in runescape. I for some reason feel in love with woodcutting and firemaking. Shortly after that I worked on simple combat on chickens. Good times back then

Getting killed by giant rats in Varrock sewer.

Finding a blue wizards hat and thinking "AWESOME!"

Speaking the to the ghost in Lummy cemetery and not understanding it (:P)

Getting stuck middle floor of Lumbridge castle because I didn't understand right-clicking for up and down and I didn't notice the textbox-thing.

Good memories

I think a lot of players remember their first death or witnessing one first hand. Speaking of which, I even a player die today right next to me. We were both in the Stronghold of Security, and he was about ten levels stronger than I was. (Keep in mind I'm still three). I was hoping that if we both stuck together, we'd be able to snag the money and boots at the end, but unfortunately, he didn't make it, despite having a set of steel armor when I only had a bronze full helmet. I guess I'm one of the luckier few.

This. Woodcutting and runecrafting... <3:

I remember dying with about 1k mind and air runes to the dark wizards south of Varrock... I almost quit because of it. I also almost quit because I lost a rune scimmy and kite in the wilderness because a pker decided to mess with me and a few friends when we were fishing at the wildy fishing spots. My friends got away, but I died.

Ah the good old days... I remember I got lost on my way to Varrock because my friend said me to meet him there and I got lost and ended up in Falador. In my endeavor, a rich player was giving lower level players stuff (I believe I was lv5) he gave me Mithril armor. I was so excited as it was so expensive I couldn't even wear it. I eventually found my way to Varrock and my friend traded me priestly robes, a wizard hat, gloves, boots and a super expensive air staff for the Mithril armor. I thought my mage outfit was so cool. I forget why I was on my way to Falador but I sold my air staff for 2k and I thought I was really rich. I saw my friend's account and it had 186k! More then I ever dreamed to have. he gave me 46k! Then I got killed at the Dark Wizards and I was pissed. The End hahaha.

I look back to think 10k was a lot to me, now its like I withdraw money from my bank in mils.

I'm sure you guys remember Luthas; if you don't, he's the owner of the banana plantation on Karamja

I picked bananas for a day and I made about 700gp. I felt like the richest person in the game; nothing could stand in my way of earning massive moniez. I walked to Varrock. I think you can take it from there

I got my revenge on goblins with an iron hatchet

i started playing when a bunch of friends made accounts at school. so the day i decide to make one follows; fresh from tutorial island i went to go kill some cow calfs because that is what my friends were doing at the time. accidentally clicked a normal cow and died lol.

they all ended up quitting a few weeks later, i had nothing better to do so i kept going lol.

i havent seen any of them in years lol.

a few days later i met one of my better friends who shall remain nameless because he likes that kind of thing. soon after that i met people who told me about tip.it and i was hooked.

I always felt bad about killing cows. And I remember killing goblins until I had enough to buy a bronze square shield. I was happy. Good times....

Wow, okay, that was ages ago.

One of my first memories of playing RS was burying every single bone I could find because even though prayer didn't have any abilities yet, I was convinced it was going to be awesome and useful. When the actual prayers were released, it wasn't as useful as I was hoping because it was really hard to level (LOL chicken killing sprees!) and there weren't any prayer potions yet. Still, good times. I also died once at the ice giants and lost my prized iron armour, I've had a bit of a vendetta with them ever since... although, lately I haven't felt the urge to slaughter them every time I come across them. Mmm, mostly I remember the forums. That's how I met most of my friends, chatting on the RS forums about random stuff; they weren't all like the RSOF we have today, there wasn't any separate boards for random, non-game specific topics, so it was just sort of a crazy mix of all sorts of different things.

Started back in early 2001 in my 8th grade computer class. The kid next to me showed me the game and we both started, with most of the class following suit shortly afterward. My first memories consisted of fighting goblins down the path in Lumbridge, collecting mind runes at the spawn in Lumbridge castle, and doing Restless Ghost.

I got full iron from a stranger. He was my first friend. He never logged in :(. When he gave it to me, he walked with me from al-kharid mine to this strange new town i hadn't seen before, it turned out to be varrok.

I mined Ess for my first rune set, which i lost trying to venge pk a lure i was tricked into. I have lost more than 60% of my bank more than 30 times. I have never got a good (at the time) drop. My first decent drop was a Rune full helm that i looted from a guy that died in falador mines, by the coal rocks. i sold for 25k, when it was 40k. My highest skill was smithing and mining for a long time. I beat dragon slayer around lvl 46 with adamant in the inv, which i couldn't even use at the time. My first friend from members is still my friend, even though i'm a noob. At the time we've met, i've been higher lvled than most of my friends, and they've all passed me and are close to maxing Cb. I have less than 10m exp per year with 111 days played. I have never had over 20m cash. Just recently, a combat skill became my highest skill for the first time. I still have never merched, pked, mh'd sucessfully to get money. I have never won a Pk with more than three equips. I still look like an [wagon], wherever i go.

The things I remember are dieing to the varrock sewer scorpions, thinking that I was in the wildernis (a friend told me about that dangerous place!).

I also remember not knowing how to drop things, since we had a 1-button mouse at home back then, and my inventory was always full with random junk :P

When I showed the game to my neighbors, everything on the screen except the items and players turned black, and the only way to move on their computer was to follow other players or click items on the floor xD

Good times <3:

2 friends of mine helped me :D 1 gave me tonnes of stuff, or I thought it was tonnes and explained how it's almost the best stuff because he was quitting. He gave me Adamant armour, hatchet pick etc and I thought I was really rich as he had to give it over 2/3 trades. He then showed me about F2P and stuff and left me at varrock to mine and smith like he showed me. Even gave me my first 1K gp and a bronze bar. Later that day I got lost on the way to the mine and almost killed by the giant rat. I have yet to repay that favour, so a trip there might be in order tomorrow!

Anyways my other friend who plays when he can (Libertherme, member of these forums too <3: ) then showed me around again and made sure I didn't stay lost. He had them halloween robes from the trick or treat event and I thought they were some super rich persons clothes that were epically amazing.

First day of members was even more frightening, but that's a story for some other time :)

I remember my first day of Runescape pretty well. My friends had been trying for a long time to get me to play. I told them so many times that it was stupid. 5 years later, though I may not play much anymore, i still check up on all the updates and talk about it with my friends who still play. I started an account at my friends house and I was terrible at the game. It must taken an hour for me to get passed the tutorial. Then as soon as I got out I died against a spider and lost all the equipment I was given. After that I met my first friend in the game. She had asked me for a bucket and I told her I didn't have one haha. That's how all friends should be made right there. After that I just remember going into the cow pen and burying a ton of bones because I loved prayer. I can't stand it now. Ah...those were good good times

I don't remember much, it was quite a while ago. I had heard the name from some random friend at a summer camp, and went on it one day out of boredom. I shared an account with my little brother. I was immediately in love with questing, although I didn't realize people wrote guides, so it took days just to complete one quest. I became P2P after completing all the F2P quests, and a few years later realized I had lots of quest points :D Went for the quest cape after that.

Memories:

-Spending days gathering all the items for Prince Ali Rescue, then attacking a wizard south of Falador (when there still were normal wizards there) and getting killed. Then running back and getting taunted by some random guy who picked up the stuff.

-Showing a friend the game, letting him use my account, and watching him get killed by goblins in Lumbridge Swamp with my newly-acquired amulet of accuracy.

-Killing cows south of Falador. To this day I still hate most skill training. I was probably level 20 for at least 3 years.

Ah, these threads are fun, the first days are always the best.

I remember getting killed by a goblin in Lumby and worrying about the leather boots and gloves I lost, turned out I could get infinite amounts by searching cupboards :) . The goblin mails and bronze sq shields they dropped were big money in those days! I trained my Smithing to 20 in a few days by walking between Lumbridge and Varrock and mining, smelting and smithing everything myself. The day I could smith full bronze was the most epic day ever <3:. And I remember buying a blue wizard hat in a strange port town with docks everywhere, turned out I wandered to Port Sarim.

Due to my epic stats, I have now started WGS (but I still hate spoilers).

Haha, that part about smithing... sooooo true. Mining south of varrock, smelt in Lumby then back to varrock to smith. I made around 3k in a day doing that! And bought an Addy longsword, then I was able to mine coal, and learned how to bank and turn stuff into notes, and made 10k. THEN I got scammed for buying a "rune" (iron) long for 10k. I was so sad, lol. After that, I found 7k off some guy that died to dark wizards, and I was happy. . I don't think the new players these days got to experience all this, which is kinda sad tbh. All they do now is get free stuff from npc's, no player interaction, etc. What fun is that?

I remember fleeing from cows when my HP got low.

I remember looking at Falador guards and thinking, "I can't wait until I can attack those. That will be awesome." Later I found out that I could actually attack something with a higher combat level than me, so I'd attack one of them and then run...

I was a skiller at first, and Mining was my first love. I could mine iron for hours and never get tired of it. That has changed.

I was introduced to runescape by a "pro" friend (who was lvl 15 at the time), and all I knew that somewhere is a "black place" with demons and bad players beiong able to kill me, so for like 2 sweeks I hanged out in lumbridge, until a guy persuaded me to pay 10gp and cross to alkharid (I was very scared thinking he'll kill me in an instant).

Later, when we found out about runecrafting my friend payed me handsome money (almost 5K!!) to find the altars and the way to get inside, I literally took 3 days to get inside, because nobody would stop and explain anything.

I too remember being already "pro" (around lvl 25) and having people at the cow fields working for me and getting me cowhides 50 gp each which i would sell 100gp each at the algharid world 1.

I also remember getting 1K cowhides to my friend for the fabled rune two hander, good times.

The clock is ticking, and your time is running out, mortals.

These topics come up from time to time, and I always say the same thing.

I started mining and smithing with natedog122. My smithing was too low to make any good bronze things, and he was level 16 smithing! So I gave my bars to him, he smithed, and we split the profit. I remember making around 6k coins my first night doing this, and I thought I was rich! I seriously went around showing it off to everyone I could manage to find.

Similiar experience here, I was introduced by a 1*lv friend who doesnt play the game anymore after rs2 has taken over the world.

My first day in runescape wasnt that present, it was just all about keep getting pked in lumbridge and calling each other noob.

Things changed afterwards, we can switch to non-pk characters then karamja and fishing came which is when everyone suddenly become more friendly.
