Grocery clerks, you don't have to put everything in a separate bags.  If the apples and the soup cans try and start WWIII in there, I will deal with it, really...

Every person wants everything bagged the exact same way. Also, we're trained to bag certain things separately.

for every 10 people that don't care about how their soup cans are in with their apples, 1 will come back and raise hell about a bruised apple, and the manager isn;t going to hear from the 10 people who had no issue with it.

The thing is though, half the clerks do go ahead and bag the same items together.  Not very consistent :P.  And they can also see that I don't have a cart so I probably have to carry them all lol.

As someone who is paid mad cash money to man a register, I can tell you that you'll have much better luck asking for things to be bagged a certain way in person than complaining about it online.

Good point.  Although another of my favorites is when they ask if I want paper or plastic and then do the wrong one  .  I don't really care though, just don't want paper bags breaking on the way home.

You silly Americans, having shop attendants packing your bags. What more do you want, someone holding your willy while peeing?

Everyone packs their own grocery bags here. Gets things done a LOT faster.

Been to 'Murica, therefore I can say that.

In other news, I ran for a scholarship for free trip to Brussels to visit the kommersh of my korp! .

And the dude who got the scholarship is a [bleep]ing moron. Dude said he didn't want to go to Belgium, he wanted to go to Brussels. In case you don't know, Brussels is the capital of Belgium.

The board of my local korp! base suggested me. Everyone thought I would get there before he does.

Yet Brussels board thought he should get the scholarship.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

It's their job. They should put groceries in bags.

No, they should just scan all the things and quickly get the transaction done. Getting stuff do bags or taking by hand or whatever is the business of whoever is the buyer.

I imagine having your own bag along with you is something that is clearly out of your wildest imaginations?

And they say Americans litter less...

When you do self checkout (where it's available) you need the attendant to come over five times because their system messes up <.<.  Otherwise sure why not?

You know, I'd be all for self bagging, but it's just not an option in the states. It's not exactly our faults. It's actually been fairly recently that some stores have stopped having the associates physically take things out to your car for you, at least in a few grocery stores in my home town.

My skin is finally getting soft
I'll scrub until the damn thing comes off

Where do you guys live? I've only seen very few stores had employees bagging your food and they were higher-scaled ones.

What is going on with your guys' grocery stores? Every grocery store I've ever been to bags your stuff for you. Hell, any kind of store bags your stuff for you. I wouldn't trust the average shopper to quickly, efficiently, and properly bag their own items anyway.

I did not mean self-checkout. I meant that the shop attendant is only there to work the cash register and quickly scan all the items. Then stuff just stands on a long moving tray, waiting for the buyer him/herself to pick it up. And no free plastic bags anywhere. You either buy them there, or you take your own with you.

And why the hell is there a difference in how a bag is packed? You put heavier and sturdier stuff at the bottom and lighter and more fragile stuff on top. It isn't exactly rocket science, you know.

You don't want raw meat to touch food you aren't going to cook so that you don't die

You don't want food in less rigid packages to get crushed so that you can eat it eventually

You don't want fruit and vegetables to get bruised so that it isn't disgusting

You don't want an uneven distribution of weight or you'll be leaning to one side when you're walking home

You don't want frozen food in the same bag as non-frozen food or it'll unthaw by the time you get home

Are you buying raw meat unpackaged? We have it wrapped here, I don't see a problem then.

That's why you put the more fragile stuff on top, including fruits and vegetables.

You want frozen food together and non-frozen food together, but I specifically put meat and dairy products and such right next to frozen products, so that they will keep cooler. It ain't going to unthaw in less than 15 minutes, and I doubt a commute from store to home takes longer than that. If it takes, then there are specific cooler bags and stuff that my family uses while in Norway.

If you are leaning on one side if the bags are slightly unevenly balanced, then you are seriously out of shape and should work out.

Just to get Saq's reaction, here's what I found when I searched "bagging groceries rocket science" : http://www.schuminweb.com/2013/01/10/this-really-isnt-rocket-science-i-promise/.
