White gloves for another 1, and I think void mace is a 6 xD

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

The fact that this is a 1 def shield/halo is pretty crazy. Pures are getting more and more defensive stuff available to them. Though I think farseer kite will change to 40 def since its a rune kite.

 

I mean, you've got the full slayer helm which can be used at 10 def (regular slayer helm was used for a long time) and now you have a farseer kite which is 1 def... halo thats 1 def...

The slayer helm is very popular among the 10+ def pures because its a helm of neitiznot with no pray bonus, and with the full slayer helmet, its even better.

 

However not many pures are gonna spend the 75-125 hours for the halo/shield when you can get 99 str in that time and probably have a way to make money as well. Unless they really want to. Seems like something that might end up being botted like SW >.> And you're not getting any money, just a bit of experience.. unlike getting the full slayer helm. On top of that the mage negatives and stuff...

 

Although, if you removed the mage negatives and stuff, it'd basicallty be a spirit shield.

Started free trade with 1.5m cash. 2 weeks later, have hit max cash 2x.

 

PvP drops: 359 Brawling Gloves, 11 Vesta's Longswords, 41+ Zaros/Ancient Statues

9 Dragon Full Helms, 3 Dragonfire Shields on the old PvP loot system

I did some testing to see how fast 20 prayer points would drain using different equipment and prayer bonuses. All tests were done with turmoil, but I imagine that it's comparable or translatable to piety and other prayers or curses.

 

Nothing equipped: 40.53 seconds

Only halo equipped: 59.13 seconds

45.9% improvement in time

 

Full proselyte (helm, chest, legs), SW cape, fury, blessed spirit shield, barrows gloves, dragon boots: 89.72 seconds [+37 prayer bonus]

Same as above but with helm replaced with halo: 124.18 seconds [+33 prayer bonus]

38.4% improvement in time

 

Full Verac's (helm, chest, legs), SW cape, god stole, godsword, barrows gloves, dragon boots: 97.75 seconds [+42 prayer bonus, ~260 melee defense bonuses]

Same as above but with helm replaced with halo: 137.19 seconds [+39 prayer bonus, ~220 melee defense bonuses]

40.3% improvement in time

 

The difference is larger at higher prayer bonuses due to the diminishing marginal effects of each additional point of prayer bonus. The halo partially bypasses that effect by having a set effect that stacks upon existing bonuses.

No, it's a percentage of improvement over no gear. With a higher prayer bonus it will show less improvement but have the same effect.

It's an improvement over the existing equipment. A halo will further slow your prayer drain rate on top of any prayer bonuses you may have.

 

I designed the 2nd trial set to reflect a situation where prayer bonus is important (in cases where you're using a protection prayer), but without the use of expensive equipment. The BSS can be replaced with a rune defender or other shield at the cost of a few prayer points. The 3rd trial is a more expensive set up that offers greater defensive bonuses that might be used while tanking and using piety or turmoil.

 

As you can see, the halo offers a substantial improvement in the amount of time that turmoil lasts. The downside is that the halo is moderately pricey at 300 tickets to buy. In addition, it would most likely not be one of the 3 items you kept on death and would therefore not be appropriate under risky combat situations. I haven't thought of any specific situation you'd use one in besides armored zombies.

 

Another person did point out that halos have the highest magic defense of any helmet. Maybe they could help while camping spiritual mages (since they also count as a god item)?

Seems like the best helmet for camping waterfiends. You don't need defense besides magic defense, and if you aren't praying, you're probably doing it wrong.

 

Granzi, how do they compare with Turmoil, Soul Split, and Berserker simultaneously? Since the halo only works on Turmoil and not the others, that could be a significant issue.

I hadn't thought of waterfiends. Good idea.

 

Under the same 3 equipment set ups as before but with 3 prayers, I obtained these results under further testing:

 

Nothing: 20.53 seconds

Only halo: 24.55 seconds

19.6% improvement in time

 

Proselyte: 44.06 seconds

With halo: 48.24 seconds

9.5% improvement in time

 

Verac's: 46.46 seconds

With halo: 53.50 seconds

15.1% improvement in time

 

The differences are much smaller, but using the halo is still noticeably superior. Of the two new prayers introduced in this second batch of trials, soul split is a larger drain than berserker. Under most circumstances, you probably won't have it activated the entire time, and it's also possible to minimize that effect by prayer flashing.

It wouldn't make much of a difference. 1 def pures would get owned in barrows if it were possible, because they're still 1 def.These could increase 1 deffer's def enough to tank and train on more monsters than usual such as hill giants and the like. I wonder how long superhuman strength would last with a zamorak halo and monk robes. :smile:
