Intelligence Blunders!

Ok, so since this forum is one which holds intelligence in such high regards, and since there are a lot of super srs topics, I'd like to welcome you to Intelligence Blunders! Ever found out you didn't know an embarrassingly common fact? Or something to that liking? Also, even though these aren't really "intelligence blunders," have you ever made a simple mistake? (my 2nd bullet for example) Post it here!

 

I'll start off

 

-I used to think there was only 3 time zones in America, Eastern, Stretching from coast to ~Chicago/Central stretching to about Utah/Pacific going from Utah to Hawaii. lol.

 

-I was once out of gas on the highway (apparently, the gas meter was broken on my parents car and they never told me) and I literally was there for like 5 minutes texting people "crap I ran out of gas" meanwhile thinking "I wish there was a way I could contact someone ugh, all I have is my stupid phone, I guess I should just start walking" ... #-o

 

 

-For literally the LONGEST time I got Psychiatry, and Psychology mixed up. This was after seeing both for like 4 years... Never realized it. Hehe.

 

-When I was younger I thought Texaco was the country and Mexico was the gas station. (I mean like really young, 5 or 6 ish)

 

-Also, perhaps my most embarrassing one eva:

Up to maybe the 6th grade I think, I thought Chicago was the state, and Illinois the city. It just made sense.

 

-I used to think Wachovia was a clothing store, I blame my sister because she said she went shopping there once...

 

 

Anyways, I have more, but I forgot them... SO I'll edit my post when I have more.

This thread is meant to be good "light hearted" fun, please don't post douchebag comments like "I used to think God was real" or "I once thought you were smart" etc. etc. etc. Also, no matter how stupid the fact someone says is, do not mock them for it. Because we all (obviously) make mistakes.

I used to hold my breath when we'd drive by them, not because of the rule "they can't breathe so you shouldn't but because I was afraid they'd stink. Thats why I thought everyone held their breath.

My mom once called the cops because she thought someone kidnapped my older bro when he was 3. Nope. he was on her waist sucking on that pacifier. You would think she'd notice him when she had to dial 911 one handedly.

I put a tooth under my pillow, and in the middle of the night, I saw my mother replacing it with a doll. I was absolutely certain she's fooling everybody, and works behind my father's back.

Its actually not a very stupid question since it depends from which part of the country she comes from. Most speak German, but in some parts they speak French, Italian or Romansh. However there is no language called Swiss, and asking that would make you look foolish.

In Luxembourg they speak German, French and Luxembourgish, which is pretty much a dialect of German.

This kind of thing happens to me all the time on TIF or when I'm back in America, when someone makes some reference to American pop culture and I have no idea what they're talking about.

 

There are some things I've done but they're not really worth posting here, I can't think of any right now...

I asked my brother why and he told me that parents could mail order from Santa and parents just hold onto the presents. I believed in Santa until like 5th grade.

When i was young, I would always pronounce Utah without the t, so It would be saying Uha (ike you-ha).

Around 6 or 7, I used to think women swallowed pills and a baby would form. I even asked my mom if that's how it worked and she just said, "Uh, yeah."
