The European teams (with the exception of The Netherlands) all seem to be struggling, games that should be a walk over for them have been hard fought draws or even losses so they're obviously not adapting to something as well as other sides. Seems this World Cup is being largely dominated by lower ranked teams throwing everyone in defence, an apparently terrible ball, some often questionable referring decisions and some impressive goal keeping blunders

Really hoping for some nice attacking football from Brazil and Ivory Coast tonight though

ball can't be the problem at all. Manchester city played with it for 6 months, no complaints. Player testimonials say they didn't have any problems, rather the ball was good. It's pressure / nerves on the Europeans' part. they're out of form. A swede in the city system said he thought it could be the conditions that were putting the europeans off, or simply the vuvuzelas.

refs have been terrible. Why don't refs need to qualify, like teams? the prestige involved would merit such a system imo. refs have decided a lot of games, latest one was Italy - New Zealand today. In my opinion, Italy shouldn't have had their penalty, therefore goal. That's a weird situation to be in for a reigning world champion...

Brazil game today should be good though. don't both teams really need to win it?

Holland was a tough game yesterday, but I'm happy with the victory. It's very hard playing against these defensive opponents. I'm still confident. :) Italy was terrible again, today. Huu. Can't wait for Brasil tonight. :)

I think the refs are exceptional this world cup. Not much bad decisions. :)

Really happy NZ managed a draw with Italy this afternoon, brilliant defending from NZ in the second half. The Referee did annoy me though, giving the injured NZ defender a yellow for "time wasting".

French team seen to be going to pot, quite funny really.

Even the French players themselves have said that with the team they have this year, they would be surprised if they didn't finish last.

And I wish I had some NZ friends so I could pass out some deserved high-fives

Did Man City use the ball in training or what? Because in PL matches it's Nike.

Edit: Brazil - Ivory game. Oh my god, the ref!

Agreed. Can't believe he gave that 2nd yellow to Kaka just like that without knowing anything. He hardly [bleep]ing touched the guy and he went down clutching his face like a [kitty].

Not to mention the obvious double handball for that 2nd goal. It was fun to watch though.

Brazil - Ivory Coast. Not a bad match, spoiled a bit at the end with Kaka getting sent off. A really poor decision by the ref, considering he didn't even see the incident.

There was *apparently* unnecessary violence, that's under juristion of FIFA.

Watched the match in HD, it just looks so sharp and clear.

Does Kaka get suspended for 1 match or 2 for that?

One. Doesn't matter since they are ready for next round.

Two for a red card. Sometimes the governing bodies can increase the number of suspended games too.

Reminded me of Rivaldo in World Cup 02 lol.

According to the commentators over here, it could be as much as a 4 match ban. However because Kaka didn't do anything wrong I doubt it will happen. Hopefully Keita will get suspended for that blatant dive as well.

yeah i think so. Swedish tv had a talent for Man City who was the one to speak. would think he knew, and they showed a tad of practice footage.

Epic NZ draw. I'm not sure if Shane Smeltz's gola was offside, if Winston Reid din't actually get his head to the ball, he was fine. It's hard to tell if he did or not though. But god, those are Italians are so sad that their game plan revolved around diving to try and neutralise our aerial threat. Ryan Nelsen had a bit of a go at the ref after the game, he was up to [bleep] all a lot of that game. Still, a great result for us, though I don't think we can beat Paraguayand progress.

[bleep]ing Italy ruins everything. Darn dagos are cheating, diving, unsportsmanlike, and their [bleep]ing refs are even worse. Seriously, all the refs suck balls. What's wrong with them ?

Going off on a tangent here ...

After watching two full games of soccer (Aus v Ghana and NZ v Italy) I've realised why I've never enjoyed it..The whole game revolves around who can fall over best and get a penalty.

Like I've said (I think), the only good one I've seen so far is the one from Brazil/NK. He gave one yellow to a Brazilian in the 88th minute or something, and that's it. So yes, right now, North Korea is tied for least amount of cards. Haha.

But refs are getting worse and worse and the games are getting worse and worse too to be honest.

Hopefully Portugal-NK and Chile-Switzerland will be good tomorrow. Too bad I probably can't catch either.

That french ref for Brasil was terrible. Brasil was great, by the way.

I'm still ticked at the ref that screwed over the US.
