Password protected screensaver, but not login?

Is it possible to not have a password on login, but have a password if the screensaver turns on? I'm using xp

 

and yes I realize how dumb that sounds, but I want it.

There's an option for that known as "locking"

 

From memory, you need to change the way you login (so instead of clicking on their name then pass, they have to write their name EXACTLY and pass in), then in that area there's a feature for "locking" if the screensaver turns on.

Control Panel > User Accounts: > Change the way users log on and off > Clicky

That's for the login part.

Right-Click desktop > Properties > Screensaver > "On resume, password protect. (Click it)

Thats for the screensaver.

 

Oh, you dont need the first step either. Just dont forget the exact spelling of your username and password.

I don't think u need to change anything other than tick the box on screensaver setting to password protect.

 

However there is no way to do this without having a password on the account in the first place meaning u gotta log on when u boot up.

I don't see why u'd want to avoid this anyway, afterall whats the use in a password protected screensaver if someone can jsut power the system up/force shutdown then power up and get on password free

Yeah I tried that, but it seems the only way to set the screensaver password is through user accounts, which automatically makes it ask for a password on login. If I just click password protect in the screensaver options, it does nothing until I set a password in user accounts.

Yeah I know, but I want a fast boot where I don't have to wait, put in password and then wait some more. I'd like to press the button and go make breakfast or something, but then have it password protected if I leave it turned on for a while.

 

My family aren't smart enough to restart to get in, and my computer is on most of the time anyway.

Just put a password on your user account and press the Windows key and L (Win+L) and it'll put you back to the user selection screen where you'll need the account password to log back in. It's the easiest way.

Someone at whirlpool pointed me towards powertoys tweak ui, which let me set up an autologin. Now I can have a password for when I leave my computer on, but I don't have to put it in on boot up. :thumbup:
