Jernlov
Well grindcore is pretty niche and I don't expect people to like it. I hated it at first but it's now one of my favourite genres. I mostly posted it here for the people that do enjoy the genre but it's fine that you don't like it. That band in particular is pretty extreme (their debut "album" is just 11 minutes long) though. It's not all like that. Maiden is a NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) band - largely a precursor to power metal and melodic death metal. If you like them, you should give Pretty Maids and maybe Manilla Road's Crystal Logic album a listen. Steam | Soup | Last.fm

Asmodeous4
@Saru If you hate growls, screams, rasps etc. (which I did to start off with) there is plenty of metal with clean vocals. Power, classic, folk, even some black metal has clean vocals (Alcest count kinda as metal ^^). Also I love Primordial, and yes, Maiden's album The Final Frontier is coming out soon, the single El Dorado is free for download on their website. And... Kamelot's 'The Great Pandemonium' music video trailer should be coming out soon! =D I am so psyched about their new album... D Jay99
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p855qUdOFNI NGE grindcore. Hell f***in' yeah.Ooh checked out some more Gridlink on yt and they're actually pretty good. Gotta be in the mood for it though. I personally cannot stand most metal vocalists that actually sing, wailing vocals with cheesy lyrics isn't my thing. Not to mention most power/folk/whatever riffs are pretty boring and cheesy too. They may have an amazing voice and range but I honestly don't care, still sounds annoying to me (the guy from Manilla Road is a nice example). Would much rather have a singer with a nice scream/grunt so it doesn't detract from the rest of the music and might even sound pretty cool.Favourite genres would be death/brutal death/tech death/black/post/sludge metal and combinations between those, I've kind of grown out of it now though but still like it once in a while. Gorguts/Decapitated is awesome when you're in a bad mood. Same would go for Gridlink :P

And who cares if some of the riffs are simple, if it sounds good and if the lyrics actually mean something, I'll listen to it. And who cares if some of the riffs are simple, if it sounds good and if the lyrics actually mean something, I'll listen to it.I could say the same thing about bands with vocalists who grunt/scream, why don't you listen to those? Easy, you don't like them (just generalizing here, no idea what you actually listen to). Even though they are pretty good bands.Singing vocalists just aren't my thing, I have primordial and don't even dislike the music but the singer totally turns me off. He is good if you like that kind of singing but if you dislike it it just ruins the music as a whole. Did listen to gamma ray and iron maiden for a while too but then moved on to in my opinion better music. Tried kamelot and couldn't delete it fast enough, despite everyone loving the vocalist I found him pretty horrible. And I honestly don't care for meaning in music, I want interesting riffs, vocalists that don't sound like they're trying too hard, and no cheesy stuff. if it sounds goodYes I agree. Problem with cheesy riffs is that to me it sounds good once or twice and then it turns really boring and predictable. Cheesy vocals don't even sound good the first listen :P vocalists who can actually singI think I just really dislike people 'actually singing' in metal, they all sound like they're trying too hard and wail too much, really turns me off. Two examples of singing in 'metal' I don't mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn1bsz8own0http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smF-zxffe4I
Asmodeous4
Isis and Cult of Luna are great, it's a pity Isis split up really, although it was probably the best time for them to split up. And I suppose if clean vocals aren't your thing, they aren't your thing, but they're not all cheesy and waily (I'm looking at you LaBrie) and neither are the riffs imo. Take a look at a band called Winds (avant-garde) maybe, the vocalist doesn't try too hard at all and he definitely isn't whiney. D Jay99
Hmm he's less bad than most other vocalists but he still holds too many notes for too long, you really don't have to draw out every word in a sentence to sing. Plus I don't think singing should be so high in the mix, why can't the riffs or the overall sounds be the focus? But I digress. Some more bearable vocals (mostly because they fit the music pretty well):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBiK4TJAoKQ More good stuff:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hGvCFih1SY awesome songwriting.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KLBMwKKxmIhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_RWBZokdpE (this part has the solo)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_82RDx0nSs pretty much perfect death metal.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy1Ob9RuPFY black metal with a nice post-rock influenced side, best when you listen to the full album. Especially that one album they recorded live in London back in '92 or '93. Then he ate shrimp and ruined himself. I like a good, healthy dose of cheese metal to offset all the more brutal stuff I listen to. I used to be able to listen to power metal constantly (it's really addictive music if you're in the mood) but I haven't been able to do that for almost two years now. I think if you look far enough back in my post history, you'll see Nightwish, Blind Guardian and Sonata Arctica being bands I mentioned almost constantly. How times change. Intriguing
Don't listen to metal anywhere near as much as I used to, but it's still among my favourite genres. Particularly been listening to Doom, Drone, and Sludge recently, but I'm also really enjoying Behemoth's latest release. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jX3EzwnFPfQMost metalheads would have already heard of Sunn O))) in passing at least, but still worth a mention. One of my favourite bands at the moment. I can see how people might find them boring. However, possibly coming from my love of Minimalism, their music sets pretty much the best atmosphere I can think of.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6Fh0H5fPpkRecommendation from SilverSword a while back if I remember correctly. Earlier albums are a lot more punk-ish and also great, but Inlé is their best in my opinion.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O7iD6UfAZ4Another old recommendation from these forums, Nadril if I remember correctly. Kind of awesome band. P.S. This thread is already looking much more promising than previous metal threads. Will be keeping an eye on it. :) Cool. Nadril
Jesu yeah! Sun O))) is an odd band. I'm not the biggest fan of minimalism but they do it decent. You would probably like Sleep's Jerusalem and Dopesmoker albums and Boris's Absolutego album. Which reminds me, sleep is such an awesome band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLv6BUdPh58 From the Holy Mountain album. They remind me of a heavier version of Sabbath's Doom era music. Some of the heaviest rifts you'll ever hear.
Intriguing
I just recently got Pink by Boris, but I have yet to listen to it. Never heard of Sleep but that is a really cool song. I quite like Stoner Metal/Sludge so I'll track down some more of their stuff. :) Cool.

I'm kinda coming out of listening to power metal and more into progressive and other stuff. I'm still a sucker for the occasional song off Silence by Sonata Arctica though. It just cheers me up, the fast drumming, ridiculously high singing and cheesy riffs. I've got Images and Words and Octavarium by Dream Theater, I&M is alright, Octavarium is a bit rubbish though imo. I just can't listen to DT for too long a time. Also, Kamelot's new album title and a release date has been confirmed, it's called 'Poetry for the Poisoned' and is gonna be released on 3rd September.
