I agree the first article was "concise."

I did find some of the list amusing though.

For the second article,

i love playing castle wars, and i do encounter the same problems the article touched on. UNbalenced teams make the game not much fun, and any decent reward is unobtainable

I do like the catapault improvement, clicking out the coordinates sucked

The articles, meh.

The DYK, meh.

Is there a list of previously used DYK's? If so, where is it found? I've sent in a useful tip, but if it's already been said, then I understand why.

With all do respect, the castlewars article was absolutely horrid.

First off, i believe the profound armor set is for people who have been playing castlewars a healthy amount ever since the minigame first come out. If it was a piece that anyone could obtain with a decent amount of grinding, it would lose it's glory.

And another thing i like about castlewars, is it's brutal way to force you to work for your team or put together a group of people who are balanced (Stickers and flag tanks). If your team doesn't have enough of the right type of people, you're sunk.

So what do you do? CONTRIBUTE! I can't list how many games i've swayed in my teams favor in the last few minuates by doing the right thing.

Does the other team have your flag and is praying against your attack style? Then learn to switch attack styles. Clicking on a rune crossbow and whip every few seconds never hurt anyone. Plus you can trick them up and sneak a claw or BGS spec in there to really hurt or potentially K0 them.

Being piled? Sip a super defense potion and put on some torags.

And if you're too low a level to do any effective brute force stuff, then work the catapult, rock walls in the caverns, or set up barricades in the right places when a flag bearer happens to come by.

And even if my team does lose, I'm going down with my teeth at the enemy's throat.

Anyway, i know I'm going to get flamed for this. I just hate it when people complain about a minigame that has been running successfully for years. They have to be doing something right. I think the minigame is fine the way it is and the rewards or tickets shouldn't change at all.

I think their message (at least mine) is that it could be even better. more people could enjoy the game, and that certainly won't hurt those who already like it. to the contrary: games with a lot of people are more fun, aren't they?

No comment on first article, some like it others don't. Just a matter of opinion.

Second article. It was an even WORSE analysis than Racheya's article for castle wars before. #1 Profound armor is one of the best updates CW recieved. 25% increase to all damage is an absolute dream for the pk defs on a team not to mention allows hard working players to show off their achievements in the minigame they love. #2 Balance the teams midgame? So you're saying someone can score 5/6 scores for Saradomin and then because of the incompetency of the Zammy team that person can be switched to Zammy and not receive his win? #3 The flag holding advantage comes with heavy penalties. It's both an advantage and a disadvantage, your defense lowers massively due to the lack of a shield along with castle war brace's bonus for attackers to hunt you down. I've tried tanking meleers in maxxed tank gears and run out of bandages incredibly fast. It no longer needs to be fixed, if you really can't get the flag back in those conditions your team is just horrible.

What I basically saw from the CW article was a person who does not want to put in the work others did to achieve their rewards. Just because something is hard doesn't mean you should make it easier. It is the most popular minigame in RS for 6 years for a reason. Instead of trying to find a bunch of shortcuts just so you can make the achievement worthless, you should actually learn the game and play it to gain your rewards. Pointless updates like the ones you've proposed are just a waste of time.

First article was mega lame. I liked the second one, and agree in principle. CW does need some game play changes.

I completely disagree with this article.

1. castle wars is not an old car thats falling apart like the author said, castle wars has been around for years and is still going strong. And thats despite the fact that it had no rewards (decorative wasn't useful, everyone knows that). At most it needed a tune up to make it a bit more modern.

2. Castle wars is still a game thats not played for rewards, but for fun. Thats why the reward armour is only useful inside the game. Furthermore, the highest end armour is to reward people who are really dedicated to the game- you don't NEED to get it so stop complaining about how many tickets you need for it, it makes you sound like an [wagon]. If you don't like castle wars enough to play that many games then you don't deserve the armour.

3.you say that it isn't even good- 25% increase in damage is way better than any other armour gives, you trade defense for offence. You also say that the potions are the best part of the upgrade but that its bias to melee. Most people I speak to say they are the worst. Why? because you have to spend 2 points on them. So you must win every game to just break even on tickets. And the potions in castle wars aren't bias to melee, its just thats the way potions are in all of runescape.

4. making teams even by moving people around in game is the stupidest suggestion I''ve ever seen in my life. What if I want to play with my friends or clan? If I'm winning and I get moved to the losing team I'd be mad. What if I was the only one to score for my team and I got switched, now my scores count against me? Hell no.

I agree that flag holding can be a problem, but thats about it

P.S. did anyone actually look at his suggestions before they put this article up?

I actually liked the first article. Gave me a laugh anyway. Makes you think - 99.9% of the Runescape population is wrong every time it opens its mouth.

As for the second article, both this one and Racheya's had good points. However, I tend to sway toward Racheya's point of view. These rewards are meant to be difficult to obtain - minigame (I will NOT call it activity!) rewards are generally useless with high costs, but can you imagine what a 25% boost does? Sure, without the boost it's rune armour at 50 times the price (theoretically) but otherwise the entire game would be flooded with crazy-hitting maniacs.

Although I defintely agreed with the team balancing perspective. It is common to see a massive clan of 100+ players swarming on a team. When I see the red levels, I instantly go Woops. Looks like I'm not getting anything out of this.. funwise too. Your solution is rather extreme, but I'm sure someone could find a better one which I obviously don't know of at the moment.

And finally, the tickets. This is the aggravating factor in Castle Wars, in my opinion. The losing team has to get something for 20 minutes of effort against an invincible enemy. I suppose if the winning team gets two, there isn't much room for loser rewards (we'd end up with people sitting around twiddling their thumbs) but if the winning teams rewards were upped to say, 3 or 4 tickets, then the losing team could get 1. And not more.

These articles were pretty good, although I'd have liked the first better had it been Top 20.

The author of the second article does not like castle wars, even before the update. I have stopped playing castle wars when the clan wars came out, but like allot of people I checked out the update. It hardly changed anything it was still melee based, the rewards seem pointless (yes I think that the new armorer is ugly too), I still cant use my ava's accumulator, and most of the people there are just there for killing other people. As for the author wanting an auto balancing system, there is something like that now, but i believe that it is based on the amount of players not the levels. I would rather Jagex focus on some other aspect of the game rather than fix the balance of castle wars.

As a side note and helpful hint, join the team that just lost. Odds are they are going to win. Something to do with noobs (low levels to be more politically correct) rushing to the winning side for the next game i think.

and most of the people there are just there for killing other people. A pvp minigame where people kill eachother!?!?!?

it needs to be balanced, but not the way the author said

We need more maps, a clan portal, NO flagholding at all, and no hoods. I'd like a few more rewards, maybe some in game permanent ones (better cwars brace, def boost while holding enemy flag, better bandages).

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

the dyk is slightly wrong. female characters have curtsy as the default and bow as secondary by right clicking as far as I know. while male characters have bow first and curtsy second.

I'd have to agree with " That's It " . I've never liked the balance of Castle Wars or the reward system. I've lost track of how many times I've been stuck with a low leveled team while a strong high level clan is on the other side. 20 minutes later after getting our butts kicked because some level 30 grabbed our flag , got killed & let the flag get recaptured making me spend the rest of the match chasing it as a reward I get NOTHING... & I'm supposed to save up to get a DECORATIVE armor like this?

The update had possibilities but they missed the mark.

Balancing like they do in stealing creation & changing the reward system to give 4 tickets ( 3 for a win , 1 for a loss or 2 for a tie ) would be better .

I don't like the re-balancing midgame idea. If I was doing most of the scoring for my team ( as I often used to ) , we were winning & suddenly I found myself on the other side I'd be sooooo... pissed :wall:

Have you ever tried to get a flag back from a level 138 with curses and a steel titan (just for example) and 5 other level 138's barraging you? It's not a cake walk and you insult a lot of mid-level people who have committed the horrible crime of joining the team that just didn't happen to have a clan of 138's. I play Castlewars for fun not for the rewards and even before this update I was annoyed with the system for rewards and the flag dropping system. I can't enjoy a game if I'm not really being given a fair chance to win. Sure it's a 50/50 chance I could be on the same team as the 138's and I could even join their team on purpose but then I'm not having fun. I'm just as bad as they are. Just playing to win.

Edit: The Castlewars bracelet only works if the person is holding your team's standard. In other words it doesn't help with people holding their own flag.
