Rock climbing boots affecting RuneScape

Leoo

Recommended Posts

Everyone is aware of the current situation with one of Jagex's latest RuneScape updates. The price of rock climbing boots in which players can now make profit from has raisen from 211gp to 45,000gp (although they are 75/80,000gp). Jagex has created instant millionaires!

As Jagex hasn't decided to fix the 'mistake', RuneScape remains with all the sudden money that has been generated into the economy. The prices of nearly every single item will increase in price. For example, as the majority of players that have benefited from the update are mainly Pkers/combat based players, imagine all those players wanting to obtain 95 Prayer for Soul Split. This will increase the price of Dragon bones as the demand will be far greater than the supply. In other words, the ecomony will not be able to cater for all the money that has been pumped into the player's banks.

However, will this mean that gathering skill such as Woodcutting and Fishing will become even more profitable? Although the prices will raise, will it be more easily to make money due to the upcoming changes? How do you feel about this update? Personally, I want to quit.

I just fail to see why this was a necessary update. I'm sure there were less people ranting about how climbers were too cheap than people ranting about this update.

It will balance out in the long term, yes. But they knowingly made a decision that would cause us suffer for months to come, justifying it with the fact that players supposedly bought boots at 75k each on a regular basis. Which is a flat out lie based on misinformation provided by what is likely to be a pitifully small sample size to base such a monumental decision on.

When the penguins glitch came out, or the dragon bolt (e) glitch, or <insert moneymaking glitch here>, these things were frowned upon. We were actually told that we, as players, should be ashamed for willfully participating in things such as these. That we should've reported the bug. That it was the bad user's fault. Then, again based on faulty research, they agree to allow millions to flood into the community--and yes, it is millions--and ruin the economy.

Hypocrisy...thy name is...justification.

The justification? These people could've introduced this money into the economy at any time! Except they couldn't, and time sacrified by the buying party amassing junk to circumvent the GE would've balanced out with the money being gained by the seller. This flooded money into the game with no justification, no reasoning, thanks to a shop vendor who would buy them at an inflated price and an exorbitant alch price.

The idiocy of this decision knows no bounds. And the sad thing? They truly did have their hearts in the right place, if their PR is to be believed (but hell, now even that is in question thanks to their stellar 'research' the PR mods are toting on about.)

It's a slap in the face. I am not happy. But now there is nothing left but to take a big ol' bite of this crap sandwich and smile as if it's the most delicious thing in the world. It's too late to do a rollback now, almost 5 hours after the update. So I'd like to ask the community: how is that crap sandwich tasting? Would you like some ketchup for it? Because I'll lend you some of mine!

OMFG!!!!1 EVERYBODY PANIIIIIC!!!!111ONEONEONE

srsly. chill a bit. yes, the update was stupid, and they only woulda had to raise price to about 20k for them to be less used,(or just kill the str bonus, but then everyone would be panicking more) but everyone is overreacting. this wasn't an item that people hoarded, simply because they were easy to replace. its not gonna end the economy. it may cause a small bump in inflation short term, but we'll live.

(note, in no way am i for what they did in this update, its jsut that the sky is not falling.)

I rarely post on the RSOF, but Jagex needs to get their act together. Not only are you out of touch with your own game and player base, you are so stubborn that you refuse to admit that you made a HUGE mistake. Did you honestly think that the community was going to give a positive reaction to a minority of players to get a massive cash boost for no effort whatsoever? Did you consider the implications this would have on the market, which is fragile enough as it is? I imagine it is a good time to introduce free trials, it seems like you're going to have to replace a lot of loyal players if you keep up like this.

What I put on the RSOF.

\this wasn't an item that people hoarded, simply because they were easy to replace.\

May I please direct you to this post for one prime example?

They were hoarded, merched, etc. Yes, it was a minority. This is why this will only be temporary. Like most of the issues with Jagex's decisions, it is not the action itself so much as the horribly faulty logic used to defend it, especially with poor decisions, as even you admit it to be.

People are entitled to their anger, and if they aren't expressed in intelligent ways that cannot be dismissed (ie not rioting, spamming, threatening Jagex HQ like they had on the RSOF) then they will never know. And they need to know.

I don't get it, why would anyone hoard climbing boots in the first place?

They were cheap, easily obtainable boots roughly equivalent to Adamant Boots iirc?

*Takes a bite sandwich*

The taste makes me very mad.

I wish in real life the goverment just suddenly awarded everyone 10k for each and every book they own.

Then the bookstores become millionaires and the average citizen becomes rich. While everyone who dont read or recently had a jumble sale gets ripped off. (Then landlord raises prices for those who got more money to waste so they cant afford rent. :ohnoes: )

However I am glad they are not that stupid. Not that its possible anyway..

I have no idea what this will do to runescape, what I'm confused about is why people are going mad about it.

Nobody lost anything, and the only people who seem to be rioting are people who regret they didn't hoard climbing boots. Oh well, get over it and move on.

Nobody ever truly benefits from inflation. It's an illusion at best, and people with nothing find it that much harder to move upwards in the game.

]heir research data, and that you are able to single-handedly disprove the work of this team.

I know, I'm just that amazing. Massive sarcasm laid to rest, look at the marketplace board here, on any other fansite, or on the RSOF. Do you see threads offering to buy climbing boots for 75k on any sort of regular basis? I know I didn't. The first question you're going to come to is "Well how the hell did they come up with that?" Since the GE won't let you sell items out of their price bounds, it had to come from these third party sources right? And the fact is that the prices we see and the prices Jagex saw just aren't matching up.

Perhaps you can explain for poor, slow-minded me. What is your point here? I see something like the following:

The point is that it is hypocritical to justify one thing and tell us shame on us on abusing a glitch...then go on to condone another decision based on faulty logic and have the guts to tell us shame on us for 'overreacting'?

The overreaction happens with every update. I would certainly hope though that now, after so many years, they can realize which are over reacting and which have legitimate complaints. To realize that "hey, this person may have a point! Was this decision really as logical as it could be? Was it in line with the principles we were preaching for so many years?"

The answer would be no to all of those rhetorical questions, by the way.

Kind of like when they brought in pure rune essence, which sold for much higher prices than rune essence had in the recent past?

Same thing, yes. I didn't like that past update, either. But that's straying a bit from the point now, isn't it? Considering it was how many years ago and the game and its culture and principles have changed drastically since then?

Not happy with this one but hey its their game.

For the people who say that Jagex dont know [cabbage] about their game, they are wrong.

Jagex did know verry well that this was gonna cause alot of drama.

For example the name of the new quest:

"Quiet before the swarm" The silence is over and the swarm (of angry players ) is raging in the world of runescape.

I hope they know what they are doing.

This is exactly like jagex making the price of a purple partyhat 2.3b because that is the street price now. Jagex screwed up mistaking street prices on a low scale for the price people would normally pay for these items. People only payed ~75k for boots on a minute scale, with junk.

this can go both ways:

1. People high alch boots = inflation (creation of new money)

2. People buy/sell through ge = deflation (money from other markets moves into boots, that prior to this update had no value)

Let's see how the climbing boot pking scene changes. If people continue using them and dying with them, and few alch, this might overall be a deflationary measure

I can't see the reason for using such expensive footwear anymore when adamant boots provide similar stats for far less money and impact on their overall risk. Maybe I'm a bit shortsighted though when it comes to this matter's affect on pking. I'll confess that what I know of pking comes from second hand accounts, albeit from decent pkers in their own right, but yeah.

The communities reaction to this update will have a much larger effect on the economy than the actual update, sad really.

I don't see the point in alching/selling these anyway, if I had a stock of them I'd list them on the GE. The only way to obtain these now is to pay 75k, even if the GE price drops to 60k you'd still be making significantly more than alching them. For this reason not quite so much money is making it into the economy as people expect.

It shouldn't have a large effect and while I agree the change and the way they went about it was wrong the overreaction people are having to this has given me a good laugh.

Edit: Reply to above post, yes Jagex track trades.

except that there will be basically 0 demand and huge supply, rune boots are now better and cheaper.

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).
