Rock climbing boots affecting RuneScape

Recommended Posts

Would you learn to read, PLEASE. I said that the farming poll saga is a prime example of how out of touch jagex was with it's customers back then, and their inability to lose in certain situations. For anyone who doesn't know the story... Jagex released a poll about what people thought about farming as a skill just days after release, and after the poll results showed terrible dislike for the skill, they removed it 4 hours into the poll release, with not much explenation. Since then jagex has not made a poll about anything important. It's unfortuanate that a big game companly would act as such a child, but the reacent update is much worse. It's just funny to see how far mod mark would go to cover all their asses, and not ''bring pressure'' to their ranks. I mean, obviously there was something fishy about this update or it was just not thought about well enough, and there has been a load of conformations about this update having been leaked, so, what should you do? Turtle up? #-o

For the people still discussing how the actual new money will affect the economy, in the long run, everyone who had coins in their bank lost around 3-7% of their coinpile, but what screws more people over is the panic buyout that we are just seeing. Even if the added money was a bucket of sand in beach, we are already living in a sandmine, so adding to the already huge inflation was a terrible idea. No, i don't think this update will affect us all in the future as far as the economy is concerned, though it will allow rich to yet again get richer, but i do think this will work bad for jagex'es reputation.

The farming poll results were more correctly a reflection of the maturity level of the playerbase than any shortcomings of the update itself. And that's my point, would you PLEASE READ and save the attitude for the riots & YouTube propaganda shorts.

That poll only proved how many people in Runescape are whiny crybabies. Jagex made the mistake of putting up the poll a few days after release, after a couple days of server issues (farming caused some major lag on the servers in the first couple days). By the time Jagex put up their poll, the most experience most of the people who voted "no" had was:

*Plant potato*

"Wtf, dis taeks longur den ten sekinds? [bleep] DAT"

I was part of the group back when Farming was released that petitioned Jagex to remove the poll in the first place, and it doesn't show how "out of touch" Jagex is, as all of the skills released after Runecrafting had received the same exact initial response.

Slayer: OMG dis isn't a skill, iz combat wif exp.

Hunter: Itz a mini-game wtf no useful rewards

Construction: Not a skill, iz house building minigaem

Summoning: Omg skill level 4 followurs? NOOB

Dungeoneering: not a skill, iz activity.

Would you learn to read, PLEASE.

Trying to sound like the intellectual superior loses its face value when you follow it up by showing you have the insight of a five year old.

I am actually kind of hopeful right now, Jmods have not posted on the forum at all except to remove spam threads. Even with the dense skull they have Jagex should notice that SOMETHING is wrong here. Perhaps they are trying to come up with something? I mean last update they acknowledged the booboo on shark/brew after being quiet after a few hours, perhaps they are doing the same now?

Shark/brew thing and this update are the best evidence to prove Jagex-employees don't play this game on their free time.

Shark/brew thing was known in all major pk-clans and clan wars-clans, they *found out* years after and even considered it a bug...

I just read through quite a few posts that say that this update won't or will cause massive inflation. Really, we have no idea, everyone is on here throwing out numbers and calculations made with guessed numbers.

The real problem with this update isn't how much inflation this update will cause(only time will tell)- but that it could have been easily avoided and/or fixed by Jagex. But instead they chose to defend their failure with arguments that look like swiss cheese, and by banning players that speak out- further escalating the problem. If they admitted they were wrong and started to fix the problem they player base would be certainly be mad- but not up in arms like they are now.

On a side note: Anyone find a decent pair of welfare boots to pk in?

Uhhh, Jagex gave us bogus percentages that we can work with. So best case scenario is only 85 billion GP.

Did i ever say that the farming poll results showed anything at all? Your point was that farming is actually a very good skill, and i'd never even said that it wasn't. The MISTAKE jagex made was making the poll in the first place, and then being childish enough to remove it 4 hours into it with no explenation, which shows how out of touch they are with the player base and how rude they can be. The results of the poll are completely IRRELEVANT in this discussion, rather their reaction to them and the fact that they made such poll in the first place.

Omali, don't act as a child. You two have read way too much into the few words i've explained about the poll and made the rest up(that farming is bad, that the poll results were important, that they should do more of these polls etc). I might aswell read from your post that you love mod mark, but if you didn't write that, i can't tease you for it, unless i can't read, ofcource.

Still anything over 85 billion GP is speculation, and the impact it will have on the economy is still only speculation. Regardless my main point still stands.

That 'desired items' begin to rise in price may just as well be people anticipating these items to rise, as a result of the money coming in through the climbing boots update, and wants to buy the items before they are too expensive (which may never have been the case, but what do I know?).

Furthermore many of them were dropping before the update and now are going up very steep. Of course this begs the question, is this directly the boot update, or merchanters? Other than the dragon boots price I feel the rest are merchants.

Ye, bandos tassies were down to 26m GE. That is quite low. Things mainly just bottomed out, and are rising again, a normal trend for high price items.

Please don't explain my points to me, grasshopper. You didn't grasp them.

The point is that if they had listened to the voice of the playerbase, Farming have been pulled out of the game or left to wither & die. Thankfully, they didn't cave in to the farm mockers & the rest is history. Despite the overwhelming negative opinion of the players, it survived and thrived. And the game is better for it.

 The moral of the story is - the playerbase has the collective IQ of a cantaloupe and is not nearly as qualified to direct the future of the game as it believes it is.

I would agree with you if it was just new content, but its not. Not only did they screw up royally, they completely nerfed the boots. There is no reason to use these boots anymore. If they had done this update elegantly no one would be complaining. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS REMOVE THE PRICE CEILING ON THE GE AND EVERYTHING WOULD HAVE SORTED ITSELF JUST FINE.

This update yet again shows jagex can, and never will admit to their mistakes(farming poll, anyone?).

Farming has turned out to be one of the more successful facets of the game in recent memory. Try again?

Am i dumb or are there 3x more lines i should read into the words i and you wrote? farming poll, anyone, does not transfer to: ''i hate farming and they should have deleted the skill after the poll results'' while farming became successful(which has nothing to do with my point) does not transfer to the fact that jagex did right in not deleting it, as it was never an option. I fully understand what you were trying to say and i fully agree with you, BUT, it has NOTHING to do with the point i was trying to make, thus why i said you shouldn't jump to conclusions on what i was trying to say. The problem was making the poll in the first place(while everyone and their dog knew the results would be terrible), and then removing it because of those terrible results with little explenation. If that doesn't show how out of touch they were with the community and their inability to admit to mistakes then sorry, i must be wrong.

Farmville farming is fun, I wish Jagex would update rs farming.

Plants dying at 99 sucks.

There is no real benefit to 99 farming atm.

I've seen so many 99 farmers complain.

The reason why the farming skill was so bashed at the beginning was that no one knew how to farm, herb seeds were unlabelled, grown herbs had to be cleaned to figure out what the heck u harvested, people had stockpiles of 100k+ potato and onion seeds which were worthless, and there are far too many seeds below level 50 that was eating up bankspace, there was too much running around to do the skill from allotment to hops patches to tree patches to bush patches etc. there should have been better transportation networks, there was no lephrechaun, payments to farmers seemed high, crops were dying far too much, people thought farming boots did something when they did nothing, raking was boring, half the seeds didn't need to be watered, no one really knew the growth times and there was no farming amulet to remotely monitor crops health, hops brewing was unncessairly complicated, produce couldn't be noted when harvested you had to drop your crops or keep running to the bank, farming as implemented was sort of a mess.

I'd actually disagree with what you said about the start if farming. The reason i was so successful at the start just could have been figuring those little details out on my own, everyone else just complained and sat at the patches. When i just reacently started farming again(for herbs) i was doing things just like i used to and only found out the benefits of the tool leperchaun later(since i already had 99 before their release). As a whole, farming now is very much alike the farming that was almost 5 years ago with the exeption of the knowledge we now posess.

I don't think it matters, people only used climbing boots because they were a cheap disposable strength bonus, when addy boots are 70k cheaper, and rune boots are less than 10k more for +13 or so defence, i just think jagex have just upped the value of the junk in the rs economy.

Mod Emilee:

To say that this update provokes inflation is like saying that taking home a bucket of sand from the beach will make it disappear. The amount of GP that enter and leave the game on a daily basis is about 8 to 10 times as high as the amount that entered the game’s economy yesterday by increasing the value of the climbing boots. Basically, the same amount of money per person could be made by chopping yew logs for a couple of hours and then alching the bows made - a relatively small one-off addition to the coins going through the game.

Although there were occasional outliers, the distribution of the number of boots between players was pretty even. 55% of people had one pair of boots; 99 % of people had fewer than 50 pairs of boots (which if they sold to the shop for 45k would give 2.25 mil).

And what about that 1%? Where is Jagex getting that 1% from? Millions of people have played RuneScape throughout the years. If Jagex is getting 1% from the TOTAL number of accounts, then that 1% of the population with 50 or more pairs of boots may number in the tens of thousands.

Let's say 10 million accounts currently exist in the game. That's very possible, considering the amount of permabanned bots, people who have played and quit RuneScape, people who have tried RS and didn't like it, etc. That means 100,000 players have 50 or more climbing boots. 100000 players *45000*50=225 billion gp. Now let's calculate the 44% of people with between 1 and 50 pairs of dragon boots. For simplicity's sake, let's say they have 2 boots each. 4400000 players*2*45000=396 billion gp. In total, that's 621 billion gp. Of course, that only assumes that each player with >50 boots has 50 boots. What about people in pking clans who had hundreds, even thousands of boots? The total amount of GP introduced in the update may be as high as several trillion GP!

A few random people gaining 5 to 10m once is nothing.

HOWEVER, people expect prices to rise and so will buy combat based things to hopefully profit off the rise and in the end collectively cause the inflation they anticipate.
