Romy
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100704/tuk-religious-marriages-for-gay-couples-45dbed5.html Same-sex ceremonies would appear almost identical to heterosexual weddings under the changes. Equalities minister Lynne Featherstone has disclosed that the coalition Government is committed to talks on "what the next stage should be for civil partnerships". "This will include consideration of whether civil partnerships should be allowed to include religious readings, music and symbols," she said in a Commons written answer. The move will alarm Tory traditionalists. Former party chairman Lord Tebbit told The Daily Telegraph: "I wouldn't want anything done to add to the pretence that a civil partnership is a marriage." The latest review of civil partnerships follows an amendment made in the last Parliament in the House of Lords to the Equality Act which removed the ban on holding civil partnership ceremonies on religious premises. A Government document published last month, entitled Working for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equality, said the Government would now be holding talks with those with a "key interest" in the issue, including religious leaders. It said that the discussions would cover "how some religious organisations can allow same-sex couples the opportunity to register their relations in a religious setting if they wish to do so". The move has already run into opposition from traditionalists in the Church of England. The Bishop of Exeter, the Rt Rev Michael Langrish, is quoted in the Telegraph as saying in a personal statement: "As some of us warned at the time, the amendment to the Equality Bill has opened an area of unhelpful doubt and confusion. "The Church of England will not be allowing use of any of its buildings for civil partnership registrations." Sure, not nearly as good as actual marriages, but as the title says- The UK is moving in the right direction.

magekillr
It's about the only right direction that the UK is moving in since the election. I'm really disappointed with the Liberal Democrats. So much for their comeback.

Sy_Accursed
I think its a good step after all not all religions or religious people are homophobic anti-gay marriage fools. But as long as there are civil partnerships its more than enough as it gives gay couples the same legal standing and rights as a married couple Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue
Romy
Another gay marriage thread? Couldn't this have been posted in one of the many other threads? Range_This11
I mean I agree with gay marriage and all, but you should probably take out the "UK Moving in the Right Direction" part in the title. It's just going to provoke people. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder." Sy_Accursed
I dont see the problem.Just because it relates to gay doesn't make it all 1 topic. In a way its sort of mild homophobia to think all gay news and thus topics should be confined to a single thread. I mean its not like you try and confine all news about other topics to one generalised thread. I'm not brain dead :( I dislike the church because from *my personal experience* its more of a political tool, it always has been. Ever since a few years after Jesus was crucified. If they would just teach WHAT WAS IN THE BIBLE I highly doubt there'd still be so much animosity towards us. (us as in Christians that is) But I've not been to Church in maybe a year, and despite a severe language problem I have (which I'm trying to get under control....) I'm a pretty decent Christian. Thats subjective of course. And no Shadow, the idea is the God is the religion, so I think you meant to say I can believe in God, and not follow the Church. In that case I whole heartedly agree. OT:I don't like civil partnerships. No matter if they have exactly the same benefits. I want a marriage and thats that. I tend to compromise a lot of my beliefs (except for Religion) but this one I won't. But if anyone feels different I'm in a debating mood :D Edited July 4, 2010 by Saruman44 I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Rainy_Day
Meh - as long as they don't try to force the Church of England to perform/allow their buildings to be used I'm apathetic.Agreed, no problem with homsexuality, but I feel a religion should have its own right to not marry same sex couples if it does not comply with the religious guidelines. Still, a good move for the UK. Still don't see any difference between a civil partnership and a marriage though, they're the same thing. :wall: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)RIP Michaelangelopolous

Well Runescape falls into the standard computer geek stereotype. The gay stereotype is like the polar opposite of a computer geek. True stereotypes are kinda lame and don't fit well. But still they do sort of subconsciously effect you and I know personally I would never presume or expect an RSer to be gay, yet via my clan and tip.it I have come across a decent number of others. Not letting gays actually marry isn't unlike classifying them as second class citizens when it comes to marriage. That's gay oppression, the way I see it.
