Its a pretty good money maker, and not that bad in terms of xp as well. However, if you do lose one patch you might lose money. But you do make money off of it.

Overall you will make money, but it's possible to lose money in the short term from a bad-luck streak. However, if you have a Scroll of Life from dung then snaps are the best seed to farm, hands down.

All herbs make money, but hen doing snapdragons/torstol, it's suggested to have the scoll of life ability as it affects profits from those herbs much more than any other herbs.

It's only 10k tokens or 100k xp. If you have 60+ Dungeoneering, less than 3 hours. It's worth it.

Just a reminder that the scroll of life will only return about 10% of your investment in seeds, which equates to about 20k for torstols and 7k for snaps. It's still definitely a must-get for any serious farmer, but don't expect it to magically give you tons of seeds.

10% of the seeds is a lot more than you imagine, it means you should on average get a free seed every two runs. Thats about the same chance of getting a dead herb.

Do you fail all seeds then? - The return only "triggers" if you have a dead herb in the first place

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

no, the return triggers whether the herb is alive or dead.

If the herb is alive, there is a 10% chance of getting back the seed that you used to plant it.

If the herb is dead, there is a 10% chance to get back a random seed. (I think because the game doesn't remember what an herb was before it died)

It's a bad idea. The starting seed price is 80k, and the herb is 16?K. Therefore, you have to get 5 herbs for profit, which means that you will only average about 30k profit per run. However, avantoe herb and seed price is 6k.

6k x 7=42k, minus 6k for the seed = 36k, 6k more profit (and a lot safer) than snapdragon. Ranarr is the same deal. 8k herb, 32k seed. 8k x 7=56k, minus 32k is 24k profit. (for all of these examples i assumed you get 7 herbs.)

svaac, you have no idea what u are talking about. On average snapdragons make150k per run. Learn the facts before you comment. Watch my youtube vid on it for more info. Then come talk to me.

If you plant with super compost, as you should, and use magic secateurs you will get the minimum of 5 herbs per patch.

Snapdragons are 69.3k per seed and grimy herbs are 15.9k each. Assume average of 7 per seed like you were and you get 111.3k back per patch making 42k profit per patch or 210k profit per run.

Avantoes are 8k per seed and grimy herbs are 6k per seed. Assume average of 7 per seed and you get 42k per patch making 34k profit per patch or 170k profit per run.

40k profit more per run from farming snaps. Not including the money you make by getting more snapdragons back without buying them and them planting those for even more profit.

Ok, lets see the math again.

Snapdragon:

70k seed. 16k herb. 16x7 is 112. That comes out to 42k per patch like you said. Where you get the 210k i don't know. Maybe you farm more patches than i do.

Avantoe:

6k herb, 8k seed. 6x7 equals 42, minus 8 is 34k per patch.

So i suppose you are right, but only if you are willing to risk the money and you actually get 7 herbs. If you get more, great. But if you don't, then you will find that you make a lot less money. Even with magic secateurs i still come out with 5 herbs sometimes. If you do, and it happens more than you think, then you only make 10k per patch. And that sucks. Avantoe is a safer and similar option that for a person who is lvl 71 and maxed out at 5 mil, works just fine. I'm not willing to throw down the big bucks for snapdragon seeds. you and that other guy are probably two lvl 100 something guys who squat on a huge heap of money all day and walk around with a godsword and 3rd age all while boasting about the money they have. I'm not. For me, and everyone else, avantoe is a safer option that works just fine. If this was written 3 months(ish) ago, then there would be no argument for snapdragon-wergali was a safe option that actually was better net profit. Even though the seeds were hard to get, i made 5 mil in 2 weeks doing nothing but farming 2 herb patches. You can talk about snapdragon all you want, but avantoe works for me, and because the other person didn't have a sig, it might work for them, or snapdragon might work better. However, Avantoe is my choice, and i was just trying to recommend it. Suck it up.

By the way, look at my sig. See the farm logo? It says 70. I know what I'm doing.

Avantoe is definitely one of the best low-risk seeds to deal in as just two herbs will make back the seed. However, data has been collected by bladewing that suggests that the average yield from a patch assuming supercompost + secateurs is around 6.6 with deaths. At My Arm's patch, this number jumps up by pretty much a full herb. So in reality, torstol is actually the best herb to plant at that patch, not snapdragon.

I myself don't have a huge cashpile (2 mil atm :P But have like 40 million in dragon bones  ), but I've been farming all the way up to 89 farming and I've found snaps, in the long run, end up being more profitable than avantoes. Sure risk is a big factor and losing 70k always sucks, but in the end you'll find that over the course of 100 seeds that you make more money overall, even with deaths.

Sorry bud, Cptbaker is 74. He's got ya beat. ;)

The whole riskier/safer option, in the long term at least, is all in your head. Are snapdragons risky for the short term? Absolutely. But as Sinkhan said, over a long period of time, it does all average out.

Exactly right. The only thing that should limit you is how much you can spend.

The 210k I used is from using 5 patches, which is what you should be using. Using any less is pointless as all the patches are easy to get to and have no hard requirements to get to, except maybe My Arm's patch since it requires a quest.

Off Topic:

Yes I am 136 combat, but i don't have a godsword as they all are worthless for what I choose to do. Same with 3rd age, its pointless armor and has no use other then to show wealth. I do not go around talking about how much cash i have, in reality I only have 8m since I bought some dragon bones to level prayer. I currently am playing a noob account with barely 100k gp on it and only ~30 combat. Choose to say what you will about me, but I at least know what I am talking about.

With scroll of life, torstol just might be the best money. On average, i get 8 herbs per seed(and note the seed part) which is around 60k profit per seed. To get the same profit with any other herb you'd have to get 9 snapdragons/11 avantoes etc per seed... and the xp is so much better.

The real drawback of snapdragon farming is that you have to either constantly restock your supply of seeds, which is pretty annoying, or else tie up a significant portion of your cash buying the seeds in bulk, which prevents you from using it for merchanting. That's why I switched to avantoe. Of course, once you have your scroll of life, snaps should be a no-brainer over any other herb except torstol, and even without the scroll, they should still be a no-brainer at the Trollheim patch.

Ok, lets see the math again.

Obviously if you really did know what you were talking about, you wouldn't have assumed the use of any fewer than five herb patches, and you would have already known that the average yield is between 6-7 herbs per seed. :ugeek:
