is dungeoneering really a difficult 99?

I am very curious about skill capes/quest cape and one my curiosities is that dungeeoneering, although new and rather unseen, might not be a difficult skill. I don't do the skill much, but it doesn't appear to be that hard to level up. Why? Well you can't just buy it like cooking which means it isn't going to be fast in that respect, but how long does it take? If someone memorizes all the items, monsters and how the skills work, they could eventually become a machine much like any other player in another skill and ring the 99 bell. Also its pretty much free, and there are no quests that make it easier(yet if ever) which makes me think that they made it to be self reliant so that could mean that experience was cushioned in the plan that it would be its own skill that was never going to have post-quest benefits. I am personally working for slayer to be my first 99, and I know it is a tricky one which many would find impressive if it were untrimmed. So, what do think? Is it hard? What makes it easy or hard for you?

I think it would be reletivly easy. The skill has no way to punish you for dying really, you don't lose your precious items since they are all made in the skill and you get used to losing them every half hour anyway. Also when you die, you don't respawn far away, you just run through a few rooms again. Also I must account for the fact that you would need other high level skills to make it work(if I understand correctly) The higher your other skills are, the easier it is.

Discuss! Don't bash the OP, I am curious. that is all.:ohnoes:

pre batch 2: yes, speed 40k-90k/h deppends on teams skill

post batch 2: no, by 90+ its between 100k and 200k xp/h and wont be hard, by 110+ dung youll be pulling in 300k/h or so

thats the xp/h breakdown but its a very fun skill so its not a hard 99

i started off witht he rest of people saying "its not a skill" but its the only skill that actualy takes skill, later i found this out.

basicly put a w117 togerther and you get 50-70 mins, put someone in there with 110+ dung as your keyrunner and you may see a 25 minute game

a skill that you can't afk.

True but at least it holds your attention throughout. Unlike other non-afk skills (like RCing), dungeoneering requires you to think, strategize, prepare, etc.

And it is a fun skill, just very frustrating at times.

the real challenge of dungeoneering is continually finding good teams. by good teams i mean averaging large floors under 30 mins. Therefore, as a skill, it is at least the most demanding in terms of organization: you need a clan to be able to train effectively. w 117 just doesn't cut it.

for the actual skill: keying demands clicking skills, the other roles need to come together to form an effective team having good communication. I'd say that makes for great fun, and a skill that's a challange not because of grinding, but because it takes a lot of time, or structured, organized playing habits. why do i dung? because i can push myself to be better every single floor, and i limit how fast i can dung, not game ticks or delays between alchs or otherwise.

Yup, that's why i like the skill.

but getting teams is a real challenge too.

if not the biggest.

Any grind without AFK is a [bleep]ing mundane and "Hard" skill.

I quit playing when Jagex stopped making AFK content because everything in Runescape is grind, grind, grind.

If the population of Runescape knew there were MMO's that don't require grinding, then Jagex would be dead.

I hate Runescape.

That was a very interesting post.

Anyway, Dungeoneering is definitely not one of the easier 99s in terms of exp/hour (for now). It's a lot like Slayer in that it's a slow and involved skill that everyone loves, so there are a lot of people with high levels in it. It'll become the best skill in the game when batch 2 comes out, IMO.

Dungeoneering, slayer, farming, and summoning are all examples of extremely successful skills. Jagex should continue the trend with future skills.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

at it's current state, it's sorta like agility to me

It doesn't have the best XP/hr rate (yet), but there is nothing to loose in it and isn't hindered by other people raising it at the same time as you.

(it's a hell of a lot more fun though)

It's awesome how the opinion of a new skill changes just a couple months after release. When will the community ever learn....

(Disclaimer: I think Dungeoneering was the best skill we've gotten ever since the release day)

-11% per death

Hurts in a f30-35 large. Makes people ragequit the floor =[

Yea one death = several thousand exp down the drain. :(

The whole thing about dung is if you can tolerate teams or not. Its a mmorpg to roleplay and chat but that dont mean you have to actually be forced to play with idiots or less able people than you. I rather solo than play with someone who cant completely optimise their time. I may sometimes play with people or take time out to hang out in less rigorous gameplay but that does not mean I would want to train a skill to 99 like that!! This isnt Diablo or anything its runescape and its gameplay is completely difference imo. Its completely fine for a player to not optimise their time but that just isnt -me- and I find it more fun to play my best when going for the high end stuff. Also I rather not play with someone who knows how to play better than me as I like to improve my ability and have competition against them for better xp or whatever. If it was a shooter I would rather them on the opposite team rather than on my own team. Plus they probably an idiot anyway knowing runescape and im quite selective with my friends being mature and such. I put alot of effort into getting the max xp rates and such in all the skills where possible besides dung due to the team element reducing my fun and probably P me off more than anything.

Its 372,306 xp for ALL of the med size floors solo without failer and takes about 17-25 minutse to complete. (Probably faster but my personal record was 17 minutes and I barely bothered to switch my attack style due to semi-afking and doing other stuff on pc.) So about 31k an hour? Probably 25k. Sorry I bit tired to figure that out.

So that comes out slightly low and its less if you ever die or encounter an impossible door to pass. (Which is likely to happen one way or another on atleast one floor!) Even if maxed out stats you can encounter impossible doors... however thats very unlikely now due to the last update with making farming patches.

As for most people out there though they will tolerate or even enjoy teams and that makes this skill alot faster to do. I think its ganna be a simple 99 once part 2 is released as its already 'ok' xp and the skill isnt even finished for people in teams and even not 'half bad' for people who solo it.

In conclusion I dont enjoy it very much at all however the last update certainly gave it more of a 'point' which makes training it to 99 somewhat more meaningful and motivating. Its important factor when considering if its an easy 99 or not. So for me personally, no, this is a horrible 99 to get. Its also slow. Only recently even had a 'point' to do it outside of dung itself.

Dungeoning difficulty is very much subjective to your other skills imo.

Better skills = less missing bonus rooms, getting better gear easier and less dying. All of which will make floors a bit faster and save on xp loses.

I love Dungeoneering. Each instance is different, and it's vaguely reminiscent of Nethack and other Roguelikes. The nostalgia is always great.

The meta experience is further enhanced by training with your friends. DG packs a healthy serving of English humor, and that tends to go over well with my friends and I.

It's a fast skill if you have fun while training it.

If you just want a chaotic rapier or longsword, it might drag on for a while. :D

Even though i don't really like Slayer/Farm/Summoning

Those skills are unique, they don't require they usual sit and click method like

cooking,attack,and many other skills.

I think dung is the best skill right now. IMHO

batch 2 will make it bad ass.

Honestly, I started dungeoning before I even looked at the reward list. I kept at it because I thoroughly enjoyed it. So yeah, 99 dungeoneering would be an easy 99 for me. Would it take a fairly long time? Yeah, but it'd be quite enjoyable for me, even though I mostly solo.

More than likely, my skill levels make it far more enjoyable. I can see myself nearly pulling my hair out in frustration if I kept hitting skill doors I couldn't unlock due to lower skills... the few I get now already irritate me, lol.

The only thing that annoys me with dungeoning is the... I dunno, lack of variety in bosses? We have a fair number already, sure. But I don't really enjoy getting the same boss 2-3 times in a row. And then there's Stomp... *shudders* Very minor complaint, though.

I really do enjoy the fact they make you think more about combat in here, though. If you stick to one combat style, you're more or less screwed. Myself going melee and carrying runes to blast apart warriors and the like usually works, though. Not to mention the fact the ai of the critters is somewhat intelligent enough to work around your attempts to safespot, though - either by moonwalking backwards to make you run out, or by going unaggro, and wandering around whatever you're using to safespot and then attacking again. It makes you a bit more alert, to say the least.

I am, however, looking forward to getting a chaotic weapon - rapier or longsword, still haven't decided. I don't/can't boss hunt on dialup, so my only real concern is slayer, so... regardless, that's where my tokens are probably going.

How'd you get 75 dungeoneering if you have dial-up? I too have dial-up internet ( :wall: AOL), so the only option I have is solo because there is no chance somebody with my pathetic dungeoneering will find a decent team, and all my friends already have a Chaotic weapon. Since you "mostly solo", what kind of xp/hr rates do you get? I really want a Chaotic rapier since I'm in the same boat as you; Dial-up = No Boss Hunting = No reason for a Chaotic longsword.

No it's not. I can say from experience it's one of the easier 99s in RuneScape the xp comes in a big block not gradually it's like cashing in penguins every 40 minutes
