I love this update, because I always wanted more combat in Minecraft. Now with Terraria, people are roasting Notch for copying Terraria, when I think he wanted SURVIVAL to be combat-y all along. Or just no nazi kind of "OMG WAT R U DOING THIS IS MY MOUNTAINZ"?the latter i also hate it when admins delete part of a project because "you didnt appeal for it to be bigger then X-Y-Z, so you are breaking the rules, so i have to delete it" Okay, well the reason why I asked this question is because I was talking with my boyfriend about his old server. He has a very good connection and a very good computer. He was willing to host/post map picture updates occasionally/occassionally throw the server file up on megaupload or his website. He just wanted to have an idea of interest, because a whitelist would definitely have to be put in place to prevent griefing and such. So yeah, I guess if you guys are interested, PM me. I'll pass the info along to him. It would be a mobs on/no spawning type server but other than that you guys would probably have free reign. I created a new world on Minecraft on the default texture pack. It reminded me of my early MC days... ah, and this update is going to relive that to an certain extent. LinkOlaran Posted September 7, 2011 Share Posted September 7, 2011 Been a while since I really played Minecraft, but just recently I decided to load up a fairly interesting mod I had just recently located (RPG Mod, as seen here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/479017-173-single-player-rpg-mod-v14/) as well as Finite Water, by djoslin (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/259303-173-finiteliquid-v4-its-getting-rewritten/). (and of course the Zelda sound pack mod, I never play without that installed now) Overall, the RPG mod is... quite fascinating, actually. It does give me some drive to actually do things - for instance, I always tended to hide indoors at night unless I needed bones or something, but now since there's skilling to be done, I tend to stay outside all night. Surprisingly, I've only died twice (both on the same night, thanks a lot creepers -.-), and I've gathered quite a large number of resources already. It does need some balancing, though - since I chose the Warrior class for this character, my Heroism skill (leveled via killing monsters) didn't get any boosts (although my melee/defence skills did get a huge boost), and as such is extremely annoying to level up - an entire night spent outside killing everything in sight only levels me maybe once or twice, and I'm only level 25 currently. My melee skill on the other hand, is level 146 (max level with the mod is level 200, with an Oblivion style perk system so each skill gets a little bonus at levels 50/100/150/200 - for instance, Mining gets % bonuses to mining double ore, but this is balanced out so you can't abuse it since you require level 150 Building in order to place iron and gold ore blocks back down to mine again). Anyway, rambling again. Heroism skill is being a pain to level, so I'm thinking to go to the Nether and go ghast hunting to see if it'll level any faster (it seems like it leveled faster on skeletons/creepers than it did on zombies/spiders, so this logic seems sound...). In addition to that, I'm going to reinstall the Aether mod once I'm fairly close to being done with leveling up, and I need glowstone to make a portal anyway (although due to the RPG mod creepers do drop glowstone blocks rarely, along with the usual gunpowder). Finite Water makes things a bit more difficult for me, but I enjoy it - getting obsidian is somewhat difficult now since I can't just take a bucket of water down to bedrock and get it the normal way. I ended up making a temporary water tank and let the lake drain into that, then had that drain down into a pool of lava I had (very slowly) transferred into the main room of my lower mines area. Of course, things never went as planned. I had intended on letting the water just flow down my stairs onto the lava pool, but when I released the water, I realized the walls weren't high enough on it. So, I rushed down in a panic trying to wall everything off (of course I was too slow, but still), and it turns out the finite water tank wasn't so finite - it just kept flowing, even though I had disconnected the tunnel that was draining the lake into it. On top of that, the water wasn't really turning the lava into obsidian that well, so I had to keep walling off parts randomly to try to get it to flow right... Ended up with half of the floor dug up to build more walls to try to keep it from flooding outward more, and most of the floor that was left was under a block or so of water, after I had dashed up to plug up the hole in the tank. Thankfully, my efforts had produced 36 blocks of obsidian, so I'm happy with that. It did take a while to fix the floor and flooding, though. Note to self: build a proper piping system and better tanks so I can do this easier next time I need lava/water in a specific place that isn't where they generated at. The memory leaks are back and out of control. Though from what little taste I could get before the leaks and freezing made the game unplayable, I can wait contently if THAT'S the kind of content I have to look forward to. Tried this with creative mode :P You can kill them with your fists as well... They are also extremely sensitive to water, and take damage when they step into it.
