Calling out the Clan Community

Recommended Posts

In light of current posts (A popular trend which is killing tip.it's Clan section/community), and this wonderful Topic by LolYumadtho, I think it's only fair to call people out. Now I was planning on personally calling them out (Listing names) but Joe would probably delete them/lock this topic, so lucky you. You guys know who you are and the rest of the community knows who you are, so step up and accept this challenge.

I just had to read like 9 topics of the same person quoting some one else. What good are you doing? What are you contributing to the topic? Sometimes what the person said was basically how you felt, hell it might even be a very nice thing to one of the clans in discussion, but there is no need to ALWAYS be quoting some one else.

1.2 - Irritating Posting Styles/Spamming

In order to maintain an environment that promotes ease in the exchange of information, spamming is prohibited.

Spamming includes posting entire messages using excessive formatting (all caps), posting the same message repeatedly, cross posting the same message in multiple forums, making pointless threads or replies (such as "+1" posts), begging (for yourself or another player), posting referral links* in posts or signatures, excessive use of "smilies"/characters/spaces/blank lines/nested quotes, and so on.

Additionally, do not pointlessly bump old threads unless you're contributing to the topic. You may bump a topic in the Marketplace or a very important thread elsewhere, but not whilst the thread is still on the first page of the forum.

*Whether or not a link is a referral link is left up to a moderator's discretion.

I see these massive lazy posts of oh I'll just quote what some one else and then repeat it on 3498209348 other topics as spam. The community here is pretty dead not going to lie, there is rarely new topics to discuss about the clan world in CD, and the only reason we have CD is apparently to play silly games to increase our post count. So basically our clan community here on tip.it would only appeal to those who like to play games as there is literally like no other discussion. (Except a few decent topics from today)

Also it's quite boring to read the same thing over and over, especially from the same person (Like I said you know who you are so I won't say any name(s)). Why do people post win topics? Well mainly because they have to for TWR but that's hardly all of their reasoning.

Posting win topics brings good publicity (Most the time) to their clan. They also want to feel like they have accomplished something. Saying Gratz is nice, simple enough to make them somewhat happy about their performance, but if that person who said Gratz to everyone else on every win topic does it still have its meaning? It's like your girlfriend saying I love you to everyone.

TL;DR be more original when posting in Wars in run ins, and post something to discuss once in a while in CD, so I don't have to read silly games.

True Poster Challenge:

I challenge you to post 100% originally for ONE WEEK. That means w/e you post on a win topic or response can't be said by someone else(Like seriously go full out on this and try not to copy a single word already posted if possible, if you are a boss ofcourse, if not then you can have some words others have already posted). Also create at least one CD Topic that is somewhat original, and no games aren't real discussion plus we already have too many games.

The most original posters win, good luck to those who accept the challenge. Maybe I'll make some sort of graphical award to entice you to participate.

I find that most of the fights are not significant enough to warrant an 'original' response personally. I don't care if your team beat another team in a week prep 20v20 cwa, but I'll still acknowledge the win and congratulate you, albeit using an overused 'grats'. When it comes to discussion value in this forum - there is none. I honestly haven't seen an interesting or unique here for a while and hence hardly post.

Hell, most of the posts on this topic will be spam anyways lol.

I do agree with some posts not worth an "original" response, but if you must it doesn't have to be positive lol. Push them around maybe to do something better idk. As to the second part, we need to fix that, just because nothing original hasn't been posted doesn't mean it won't be. The topic itself doesn't have to be super original because some of the responses might spark something original to discuss.

I see that Uffan5 has been on and off this topic and did not post, I believe this will be a step forward with the Clan Discussion. After seeing several posts of the following:

1. Grats

2.

3.

4.

For nothing but post count, we have finally gotten it through to some of the notorious 1 word posters of these fine boards.

I believe now that our topics will flourish and people will have genuine posts and the ones that aren't genuine will stay off the boards... All they needed to finally realize is post count does not reflect the actual size of your.... :^o

Glad you read all of the topic. It's not JUST about that. Theres massive quoting others and massive saying the same thing on every topic just changing the name of the clan. You don't need a long response just mix it up time to time, comment on something else other than the win. Theres more to a war than the winning clan, take into consideration performance (Both sides), pulls, spams anything and then we'll have better posts than seeing a page full of the same responses.

It was still mentioned, just something I thought I would address.

In CD there really isn't anything unique for anyone to discuss. If there was more clan beef, if there was more things that happened uniquely within Tip.it-based clans then we would have more discussion. But, unfortunately, you don't find that here and that has to change.

Why doesn't Tip.it have a reputation system so I can -1 posts like

TL;DR

LOL

or something to change my username to something more relevant to my current rsn?

Got to agree with this as well. Plus, Tip.it is more "padded" than other sites which shows in its activity. Moderation has to step back a little bit and then activity will be encouraged. I'm not saying being completely lenient, but try and find a new balance that is a bit more lenient on the posters. After all, you will get much more flaming/baiting within the clan area of the forums more than any other, so you have to adjust to that.

I find it interesting that some say that this area has changed but in reality it hasn't. At least when it comes to policy.

If you read topics that "interest you" surely you could come up with a new reply to the topic than "Gratz clannamehere ". I mean if it interests you theres probably something on your mind or something cool that happened or some one you are close friends with was in the war, saying something + Gratz clannamehere  would be much better.

A reputation system would be great actually. I try to be original in my posting but at the same time get my own personal opinion across. So sorry if I'm too outspoken sometimes, but at least there is some idividuality unlike others who post here...

Will post this idea in the Suggestions Forum when I wake up tomorrow (if nobody beats me to it, that is). Good night.

I think it has been, was shot down. Perhaps if we show more people are interested in it they will consider some sort of a system.

I wouldn't mind a reputation system to be honest. Unfortunately, the rest of the board wouldn't want one which overrules us.

As for changing display names, the rest of the board, again, doesn't feel it's necessary. I don't see why not considering that if you can change your name in Runescape, why not here?

It could be considered as spam, Ninane Confirm/Deny? I could see both sides to as why it is and is not spam, but what does a mod have to say?

That's because it serves as basically another method for trolling and insulting people as well as show people who are posting like idiots (...) that they're, well, posting like idiots. So if you kids and all other future posters didn't get the hit: stop spamming. Posts from here on out will be removed, you know the drill, the informal warning precedes the formal action.

I try not to just say generic "gf <clan>", I try to put effort into it. Sometimes I lapse, but so does everyone. No one is perfect. But I think what troubles me the most is that people seem to think that in order to cause 'beef' and get some drama going--and we all know that drama is the lifeblood of any competing community--that you have to be a complete and utter spastic.

When did that happen, lol? When did all the intelligence flee discussion and replaced with people who just go "lol" "gf idiot" "ur inbred"? And really, this is happening on every other community. The difference here is that there isn't enough users to cover up those who ruin it for everyone else.

One of the best trolls I know, an ex-Notorious/KO/Poison/Resilience member who now joined Corr is the biggest troll I know. He is also probably the most eloquent and intelligent person who trolls nowadays. He is eloquent and rational...until he isn't anymore, and it's almost impossible to stop. I hate him as much as I admire him, and it's people like him who keep things going. It's those kinds of people that spawn rivalries and keep things alive. But on the other side of the coin, when I remember Team Power Rangers...who had (once upon a time) a squad of people who would post the most inane things that were such terrible attempts to troll that they got banned for it...It makes me extremely wary of trolls, knowing how quickly things can spiral.

I will be completely honest here: I see what you mean, at times, when you say that the soul of the community has fled. I might like to be optimistic and think it comes and goes, like any other place. There aren't a lot of discussions to be had because most of the drama is concentrated in the top 10 and the smaller clans that tend to favor tip it don't often speak of what issues are coming up nowadays for whatever reason. It's a good and bad thing. And it's a very hard line to walk for moderators (promise--this is the only time I'll talk as a member of the staff!). To know what's okay and what's not. To try to keep a clean community while maintaining what is offered.

If more people in their clans posted and actually thought about it, even for 20 seconds before they hit that "Add Reply" button, things could stand a good chance of improving. I have no doubt that the community's still here, fun games or not. Just the work has to come back.

I'm going to take your challenge, and I'm going to try (again) to see how many people in Solace will come along as well. I care, and I wonder how many other people do too.
