Why doesn't Tip.it have a reputation system so I can -1 posts like

TL;DR

LOL

or something to change my username to something more relevant to my current rsn?

That's because it serves as basically another method for trolling and insulting people as well as show people who are posting like idiots (...) that they're, well, posting like idiots.

The bolded part would be one of the main reasons I would want a reputation system. I honestly doubt too much trolling/insulting would come out of it either.

Well, it was brought up in the Forum Updates & Suggestions forum. Pretty much it was turned down because the users felt that it would create "elitism" and people will band together to -1 specific people's posts, -1 because they don't like someone's opinion (even if it was a quality post) etc. You will have to win those people over to ever get a reputation here on Tip.it.

(It might be able to work out if it could be set to specific forums.)

Note that my personal opinion about a reputation system changed overtime. Originally I thought it would be a bad idea, but now I pretty much don't mind it.

It's worth mentioning that this is exactly the biggest flaw with the system, is prevalent in its abuse on RSC, and why it is overall undesirable. In the topic you mention, they came up with a pretty fair compromise that I'm really all game for, but it still wouldn't work the way that people like Raess want it to.

I hope Tip.it gets some decent clan moderators soon, ones who are actually in active clans for once? Not ones who were in clans once upon a time...... Or haven't been in a clan at all.

I am in Solace.

Unclebilly1 is in RSD.

Quikdrawjoe is in LND and WG.

Abs is in Downfall.

Steeny is in BK.

Dfchester is in DW.

Laikrob runs The Slayers Guild, which is a community clan.

LegendaryStu and Das are the only ones not in a clan.

Are you sure you have your facts right?

Dfchester hasn't been dragonwood for months

WG doesn't do anything at all I don't count that anymore

Community clan? Please I'm talking about warring clans

Unclebilly isn't rsd anymore

Grats your 3 mods that are actually in clans that still war are Steeny(barley even active) yourself, and abs.

If you don't count WG as a clan, when they are still actively warring, then that's your ignorant mistake. And we cater to ALL clans, not just community clans.

Haven't spoken personally to Chester and Billy lately since I returned from my break, so that's my mistake. But you seem mad for no real reason. Do you have a real complaint, or are you just trying to cause problems?

I think what he's getting at is that none of the staff here are from the 'top tier' warring clans? (You could spring for Solace I guess, but they're like top 15-20?) Not really sure though.

Just going to play devil's advocate here. There really isn't a necessity for staff to be in the top tier clans because there aren't top tier clans posting here which would require that kind of expertise.

If more top 10 people posted here, it would be easier to pick them. Can't exactly promote someone on blind faith, nor do we expect qualified staff members to leave their clans and join EoS or RSD just because they were made staff.

There have been a few people from top 10 clans that came and posted here, and if I remember correctly most ended up getting banned for trolling. Not exactly setting a good precedence.

Alright WG was good in like 2004 or something I'll give you that, but can you please inform me of any of their recent wars, and I'm almost 100% certain they don't pk anymore. Also 90% of clan forums are dominated by warring clans I don't really think mods from community clans when they're not in warring clans fit really well, they don't understand the rivalries that go on, they basically lock a topic first sight of flame, a lot of people complain Tip.it is not active and this is exactly the reason why, two mods from active warring clans that are generally still active and well known, while the rest are as I stated before.

I understand the concept of a majority. And warring clans have always been not only the most outspoken, but most prominent. But unless you're suggesting that we should abandon all clans who are on here (and there are quite a few non-warring clans here), then I don't see how you have any sort of credible point.

A lot of people complain that tipit is inactive, yes, don't disagree with you. Tell me how having Warria, Empire Mind, or Mattbrazil will help make tipit suddenly super active when they aren't even a part of the community to begin with? I would like it if bigger clans came here, but just because their leader got a promotion on the site should not be the main draw, and will only go poorly for the community.

Anything else?

Anything else?

One - Not saying they have to be leader in their current clan or high rank or whatever

Two - People who understand the clan community currently more would be helpful, someone like , Dandaman or Killered probably they won't go OMFG FLAME CLOSE TOPIC AND CLEAN THIS IS NH

Three - I'm not saying everyone currently should abandon their clan I'm saying that when new mods are chosen, it should be people who are in currently active warring clans whether it's Reign of Terror or Solace or Envy, I don't think we need anymore people from WG/Exercitum/Community Clans/Clanless

If you have mods that were a bit more lenient seeing as I did make a post about this in the conclave a couple of months ago, and not lock topic and clean at the sight of trolling then tip.it community could be much more active and amusing like it was when we had TPR posting their wins against DV/LND/whoever. Just saying flaming/trolling is part of the clan community now, just like crashing is times have changed and locking every topic isn't really helping the cause.

This goes back to my very first post in this thread, actually. Intelligent trolling versus idiots posting "gf inbred". What TPR did was unfortunately the latter rather than the former, which is why they were instantly taken care of. But in the crusader-mindset most people seem to have that "ALL TROLLING MEANS ACTIVITY" and push the envelope until they're banned. I think you can draw your own conclusions with that. Because while there might be improvements for moderation style, if people are constantly being stupid in an effort to increase activity, they're also not helping and doing far more harm than good.

And as for who we choose as staff, at the time, they were all in clans. At the time of application, Stu was in TRWF. When Das was made a clan mod, I believe he was in The Wanderers. When Loge_05 was aboard, he was in Gladz. When we choose more, they too will be in clans. We want people with experience, obviously.

I appreciate you making the time to express your concerns and I'd love it if you and those would help a little bit more instead of posting that you'll camp members of the staff at their next fight because they (rightfully) banned their best friend. lolfaceb.png

Actually no, i've been out of a clan since 2007. My history as follows

Wanderer 2001-2003. RsV council 2005. KoFH founder 2006-2007.

To try to explain things, around 2007, a friend Loge_05 asked me to partake in the CIC, the admins wanted to hear from someone around that time era. KoFH was still active, when I joined the CIC. During my time in the CIC KoFH closed, mainly because myself and my coleader had lots of RL commitments and did not want to pass the torch to someone else.

I was invited to be a Clan Mod, and with Dbzruler, we worked this forum pretty much solo for awhile, I was eventually promoted to Administrator, and here I am today.

While I haven't been in a clan since July 2007 , I was a member of one of classics top clans, and had leadership roles in two others. To make up for my last 3 years of nothing, I bring 5 yeas of real life management and customer service experience to the table to supplement that. As an adult with a full time job, and now an admin of a fansite, i doubt i'll ever honestly have time to commit to a clan again, though I thought about joining rejuvination, I just don't have the time to do it justice

Well how about you get some mods from different clans, newer clans, clans that are higher ranked, some that will do a good job yet know the current mindset of the clan community. I'm sure there were no "gf inbred" remarks by tpr and you yourself were a part of tpr for a while to know that we were all intelligent trolls. Trolls generate rivarlies, rivarlies generate activity, and activity generates interests ( feel free to stop me if im posting anything you think is wrong). Again take the DV vs. TPR rivarly for example, we started with trolling on these boards and pretty soon the rivarly sparked interest in tip.it as we constantly hunted them if they pked, brought discussion ( hostile it may be) We also provided many lulz for the tip.it community. Two of the leaders were banned for what having one having "[bleep] off" as your defname, the other for posting a youtube video that was suposedly child porn when it was clearly not what the............? You are still camped next fight as you did not succumb to my demands good day Kimberly.

Already points I've addressed.

You and I both know that is miles away from the truth.

Trolls generate rivarlies, rivarlies generate activity, and activity generates interests

Smart trolls create rivalries. Idiots only create flash in the pan flame wars that get out of control. The best part of the DV v. TPR rivalry was because a few of their leadership went to such great deals to express themselves, their arguments, and whatnot. Laughing at the few people who caused problems only caused MORE problems.

we started with trolling on these boards and pretty soon the rivarly sparked interest in tip.it ...We also provided many lulz for the tip.it community.

DV was here before TPR, TPR had simply picked up what a handful of individuals were already doing.

Two of the leaders were banned for what having one having "[bleep] off" as your defname the other for posting a youtube video that was suposedly child porn when it was clearly not what the............?

When a user is banned, they are instructed in how to appeal. And if I remember who you're talking about, not a single one of them have bothered to appeal, yet instead cause trouble and only make matters worse. As for the details of people's bans, I can't discuss them save that no one was banned for child porn in the clan section that I can remember lol.

Drama drama drama....

As unfortunate as it is that tip.it isn't as active as RSC (at least in terms of top warring clans posting) I don't think you (madcat) are fully aware of exactly how difficult it is to get people to change their ways.

Rsc....is a good forum. They aren't great, but they're satisfactory. Why would top clans want to leave what already suits them fairly well for something that might be better, but definitely might not work out?

When I was added as a CL - I was a member of SE - a top 10 clan, maybe even top 5 by some opinions. You've no idea how much I tried to get people posting here - every fight I posted I linked on their boards, I constantly pointed people towards the lack of flaming here, constantly asked for help with the recruitment topic...I think I had personal conversations with 20+ different members about posting here, including 90% of the leadership.

It barely worked....three months of effort, and maybe 3 SE members posted here with any frequency.

You advocate certain people to be members of the clan staff - you've no idea of the process. Tip.it holds their staff to a very high standard...I've been on multiple messageboards, countless communities throughout the internet and I can safetly say the staff here are in a league of their own in terms of sheer professionalism and the effort they put into their work here. Not anyone can do that. Just because someone is a good user doesn't make them a good moderator.

You don't need to be a staff member to have a positive effect on the community here. I don't see you making an effort to get clans posting here, indeed your posting habits on this board seem to be mirroring RSC. You don't really care at all - if you did you might try to contribute in a positive manner - as both everton and generaldesor also had the chance to do. You, along with many, care more for putting people down and having your "internet lols", posting your "u mad bro"'s and flaming at every opportunity then you care for behaving in a way that represents tip.it in a positive manner.

Until you put your personal gratification aside and look at the bigger picture, no one will ever take you seriously.

Only real thing there is allowed to is to discuss the fight itself. Arguments/active topics only really happen when there is beef or disagreement with the result itself. When there isn't any of that, there really isn't any interesting replies.

I dont think people would talk about much more on them even if anything was "allowed" on them.

Didn't mean it in the context to change that.

You're still avoiding typing out something different than "Gratz ClanNameHere emotehere"? If discussion happens it happens, not saying it will every time but you can analyze the war or personalize the congratz differently then you ALWAYS do or how others do it.

Most people are lazy and only post grats. Tell me how it is different on RSC or any other clan discussion forum. It's really the same: most people post grats insertclanhere with the odd person posting something more creative.

And from personal experience, sometimes when a clan wants to avoid problems they instruct their members to just post good fight rather than a more creative response.

Wait, why do we have to be the exact same as every other clan board again? As to the part of clan officials telling their members not to post stupid stuff, it's just that- stupid stuff. Dandaman619 isn't telling people to go post [cabbage] on everyone's topics, he's asking for more creative responses. That doesn't mean trolling, therefore clan leaders shouldn't care.

It's not about being the same as any other clan board at all. It's just the general way the clan community works. And what I mean by officials instructing their members on posting is that if there's a tough loss usually they would flame or something which could contribute what was said as "uncreative posting".

You're not getting what I'm saying lol. You can't find too many people that type the same response just different clanname for every post. Even if they do it's a much larger community and others make it different. Here on tip.it though it's grown from a few to a handful and a handful in a small community begins to look really bad. Like I said before most people can afford 2 secs to spell it out differently or change a color add a diff emote. I'm in no way or form saying censor the words gratz clanname here or gf w/e you think im saying. It's when people start repeating the same thing over and over and over when it's annoying. If you're too lazy why post anyways?

The avoiding problems argument isn't a good one, seeing as you don't lose everyfight, and let's be honest even if you did you would start to cause beef or defend why you lost or throw out some excuses. It's almost more of a problem/ argument against people who weren't in the war, those people need to stop being robots posting the same thing all the time, 99% of the time the people involved in the war will always type a mix of things instead of the same thing for every single war topic.

I'm just saying that the majority of responses will be similar in nature. I'm just not keen on adding rules and regulations when there needn't be any. I say, if someone wants to post like that, let them. It will make those who actually put effort into their replies more noticeable.

I do agree though, someone who just posts a  should have their reply removed.

If you have a mindset of going into reading a topic already knowing what you're saying, and that's the only thing you ever post on win topics then it's pretty dumb imo and should be discouraged. I'm not saying like set rules but something has to be said or done eventually. If not more and more people will do it and then our sense of community is worse than trollfests (IMO). If they are going into the topic with the mindset of similar posts of the form "Gratz" that's fine, it looks better because they don't say the same thing all the time.

However I do expect to see more moderation against people who always just quote someone and add nothing else to their post.

well dandaman, at least this topic you made is pretty interesting and some people are discussing on it

I try. Hopefully more clan world related topics rather than Tip.it Clan community topics will spark up.

I do understand where you're coming from and do agree that the moderation needs to be a little more lenient in the clan section considering that it has more of a tendency to be more heated, per say. I also agree that they should be in a clan when they get promoted to staff (which all of them have been except for Das, but he hasn't really been involved in as much of the moderation of these boards compared to the other moderators). But yeah, not everyone is suitable to be clan staff and clearly they know who would be or not.

Edit: Nice to see you pop in Y Guy.

To add to his post, yes it's hard to try and get others from the same clan as you to post, much less other top clans. In fact most of them are surprised I even use these boards. Truth is, I have a fondness for this community because I pretty much grew up in the clan world here. Anyone who posts on RSC to go here will not have the same feelings because they're used to RSC. They will never find a home here, truth be told.

Prefer these forums without a shadow of a doubt to RSC since at least here I'm not flamed and called a "no-namer" for posting my genuine opinion.

That said people could do with possibly a bit more trolling, but more to the standard Dan produces which results in beef and healthy rivalries rather than Ninane stated with the "gf u inbreds". But this in turn is like saying "all trollers are equal, but some trollers are more equal than others". While it' nice and idealistic to discuss things in terms of grey, I know that it will inevitably lead to people complaining about how their comment was one of the good trolls and not the bad ones, which can result in disputes between the poster and mods, or flat out flaming between two clans.

here's a list of... stuff:

1. The idea of a "thumbs up, thumbs down" system for posts sounds quite nice- we could at least trial it.

2. People who post "congratz insertclanname insertsmileyofchoice" do need a slap, it's okay the first time but it's got to the point where, to put it eloquently, it's had "the arse ripped oot it".

3. The problem with CD is that there are only so many things that can be discussed, after a while topics all start to look like other topics which were posted a few months back and people get bored and things stagnate. More often than not the only difference in the topics is the name of clans involved. It's up to us to be innovative about it!

4. Well done Dan and LolYumadtho for actually adressing these issues!! =D>

Look guys... I absolutely must be a mass baby-seal murderer!

So if you kids and all other future posters didn't get the hit: stop spamming. Posts from here on out will be removed, you know the drill, the informal warning precedes the formal action.

I try not to just say generic "gf <clan>", I try to put effort into it. Sometimes I lapse, but so does everyone. No one is perfect. But I think what troubles me the most is that people seem to think that in order to cause 'beef' and get some drama going--and we all know that drama is the lifeblood of any competing community--that you have to be a complete and utter spastic.

When did that happen, lol? When did all the intelligence flee discussion and replaced with people who just go "lol" "gf idiot" "ur inbred"? And really, this is happening on every other community. The difference here is that there isn't enough users to cover up those who ruin it for everyone else.

One of the best trolls I know, an ex-Notorious/KO/Poison/Resilience member who now joined Corr is the biggest troll I know. He is also probably the most eloquent and intelligent person who trolls nowadays. He is eloquent and rational...until he isn't anymore, and it's almost impossible to stop. I hate him as much as I admire him, and it's people like him who keep things going. It's those kinds of people that spawn rivalries and keep things alive. But on the other side of the coin, when I remember Team Power Rangers...who had (once upon a time) a squad of people who would post the most inane things that were such terrible attempts to troll that they got banned for it...It makes me extremely wary of trolls, knowing how quickly things can spiral.

I will be completely honest here: I see what you mean, at times, when you say that the soul of the community has fled. I might like to be optimistic and think it comes and goes, like any other place. There aren't a lot of discussions to be had because most of the drama is concentrated in the top 10 and the smaller clans that tend to favor tip it don't often speak of what issues are coming up nowadays for whatever reason. It's a good and bad thing. And it's a very hard line to walk for moderators (promise--this is the only time I'll talk as a member of the staff!). To know what's okay and what's not. To try to keep a clean community while maintaining what is offered.

If more people in their clans posted and actually thought about it, even for 20 seconds before they hit that "Add Reply" button, things could stand a good chance of improving. I have no doubt that the community's still here, fun games or not. Just the work has to come back.

I'm going to take your challenge, and I'm going to try (again) to see how many people in Solace will come along as well. I care, and I wonder how many other people do too.

You can say that you got rid of the "non intelligent" trolls which made tip.it a better place etc etc. But that is quite obviously false is the activity has slumped considerably from last summer to this. Tip.it was impressively active last summer and seemed to be rising untill certain people got mod and prominent members were unnecessarily banned. You say that legends (ie. Everton/Hitman) were banned for unnecessary trolling, however as madcat (di founder) stated times have changed beef should be expected on every topic. Of course if it is out of hand and just "stfu dumb 4n slave l0l your clan is bad" should probably be removed. But if they are expressing their points in an intelligent manner. I don't see why this should be categorized as trolling and warrant a ban.

As for Everton he was banned for having a default name [bleep] Off on #clans. IRC is not equivalant to forums lol. If somebody is banned on #cdrsc they are not banned on Zybez. So your points are completely and utterly invalid. You can bring a handful of solace here and things might be slightly active for a bit but things will not really change until the moderators attitudes change.

tl;dr You can badmouth the qualities of the posters we used to have but you cannot deny it made the forums more interesting, active, and fun

I dont think banning Everton or pete noob has led to the TWR being inactive, when I was in DV, the rivalry kept us pumped up and everyone wanted to put in the little effort they could.

We had issues with certain people who used to make racist remarks and getting personal, of which we complained to Das, I remember writing him a mail pointing out the things which concerned DV that time around.

Healthy rivalry is good for clans keeps everyone interested but a limit has to be set, in our case, when we felt it was getting out of hand we complained, no action was taken back then, he was banned only after we left TWR.

Some of the recent changes were good but it did not produce the desired result, lets be hopeful.

Three trolls disappearing killing a community? Cool story bro. You know that's not true.

Everton was not banned from the forums for that, just IRC. So your facts/understanding of the situation are completely 'invalid'. And again, if he doesn't agree with his ban, he can appeal it. As I've said over and over. And again, if there's an issue with moderation, go ahead and suggest alternatives. But if you're really saying to allow personal insults, like calling people curry munchers or inbreds as the lot you're so reverently defending was wont to do, then your concept of an "active and healthy community" is messed up indeed.

You responded to basically 0 of my points so I take that to mean you agree with me, thanks. And if you do not think that is the cause of the decline please present another reason as to why tip.it cd is basically dead?

Well how about you get some mods from different clans, newer clans, clans that are higher ranked, some that will do a good job yet know the current mindset of the clan community.

When we choose more, they too will be in clans. We want people with experience, obviously.
If more top 10 people posted here, it would be easier to pick them. Can't exactly promote someone on blind faith

Already points I've addressed.

I'm sure there were no "gf inbred" remarks by tpr and you yourself were a part of tpr for a while to know that we were all intelligent trolls.

Dv here before TPR what the...............

I'm here trying to backup my point once again and I will state it right now bolded and underlined If you have mods that are more lenient, that let a fair bit of trolling/flaming go unnoticed I can almost 100% guarantee you that tip.it will be a lot more active. In order to do this clan mod should be given to someone intelligent, yet also currently active in the clan world so he/she knows how to deal with certain topics. You say you have done this in the past yet as I pointed out only 3 of the mods are in currently active warring clans ( as I said wg don't count as they barley do anything) and one of the mods is currently INactive. With that said I would like to point out some of the older topics on here, such as the DS vs. DI one. There were some flames on it and heated discussion but it looked like an interesting topic, whereas now example: LND DEFEATS LEGENDZ, you get a spam post of grats lnd, good job lnd, better luck next time legendz, however if you threw in a troll or two that topic would be much more interesting to read.

What point didn't I respond to? Pretty sure whatever you presented, I responded to clearly--if not in that post then the other 10 I've made if you bothered to read the thread.

You can bring your complaints to me via PM, if you want, but you're spamming the topic now just to have your 5 mins of fame.
