Dungeoneering Experience Cap for 90+ combat

Recommended Posts

So, now we got the occult floors. Hooray, and it's members only. I was suspecting that free players won't have an experience cap anymore.

What did the Jagex mods respond instead? (?15,16,491,61533213]Source.)

"Will you be removing the F2P XP cap in Dungeoneering?"

No, the ‘cap’ in F2P is required in conjunction with the combat level cap. Removing it would make high-level F2P dungeons massively easy as well as rewarding. With the XP calculations as complicated as they are we’re treading a fine line with the cap as it is.

Changing the boundaries... improbable. Removing the cap... impossible.

"Any plans on removing member doors from F2P, like you did with the pickpocket and agility shortcuts options?"

If we were to remove the members content from F2P dungeons, we would risk upsetting the balance of those dungeons.

Completion time might be shorter for a player on F2P versus members and as such we would have to introduce further mechanics to cap XP. We felt that this would be more detrimental to the experience in F2P.

Ok, I understand this is all Jagex logic, but I have some big arguments that make this flawed.

- Free players are limited to tier 5 items, while members get up to tier 11 (with familiars too!). If you actually played a 5:5 large on free play, the monsters are still within the 80s-120s range, and they appear CONSISTENTLY. So Jagex, you are telling me that free players with tier 5 weapons can kill level 120+ monsters faster than members with tier 11 weapons and familiars? Also free play's best healing food is short-finned eels (120), while members' best healing food is cave morays (250), and can be boosted with potatoes and skinweavers. Members can also use curses such as deflects, soul split and turmoil, while free players may only protect pray. Members also have poison to help, potions to boost, and VENGEANCE!!! How could this not be ignored?

- Members now get a prestige up to 47, while free play still gets the usual 35. You're telling me a team of free players can get MORE exp per hour with 35 prestige than a team of members with 47 prestige? Without the cap, I'm sure members are able to get more experience. Also, with warped floors out, members can get prestige up to 60, almost TWICE the amount of free play! Tell me Jagex, does it seem logical to limit free play to that level anymore?

- There are member doors and puzzles in the way, which not only cuts down on bonus room experience, but also base and prestige! Members are able to make potions to not only aid them in combat, but also to help them get past skill doors/puzzles that they cannot do! Free players cannot do anything about that, and they can't do ANYTHING about member doors either. With the cut down experience with member doors, is it still logical to halve the exp rates for high levels?

- Members have class rings. CLASS RINGS!!! I cannot stress this enough. This is what really sets apart free players and members. Members can hit 700+ with promethium 2hs with even a moderately high berserker ring, and it can be used for ranged, magic, and even non-combat related things too! That helps members kill the monsters way faster than they used to be.

- Members also have tons of slayer drops, including the much wanted shadow silk hood which helps reduce damage. In many cases this makes the rooms much easier, as they can just bypass these monsters without being attacked. Sure, the occasional mage will deplete your effects, but everyone can just range them to death. That reminds me, the hexhunter bow is a very powerful weapon towards magic species.

- This probably doesn't relate to all of the above, but this cap is applied to only players with 90+ combat. Yes, ONLY those. This makes lots of free players try to find skillers to help get them normal exp. Aside from that, skillers are absolutely awful for pretty much anything in dungeoneering. Any maxed player can negate the need of a skiller. Even a moderately high level overtakes the advantages of a skiller. With the infinite money trick via air runes gone, skillers now have absolutely no place. Please Jagex, if you're going to punish free play, at least punish everyone, not just the high levels. Punishing the high levels negates the advantages of, well, being HIGH-LEVELED. You see what I did there?

Yeah, that's it. Those are the main points I wanted to address. If Jagex still keeps all this crap when warped floors are released, I am going to be so pissed...

Also, don't give me the "get members" crap. Actually, that is just what I want, so I can enjoy the benefits of the full game. But I am going to shout this out, right now...

HOW THE [bLEEP] DO I PAY FOR [bLEEP]ING MEMBERSHIP IN [bLEEP]ING ASIA?!??!!!?!!

Ok, I'm done ranting. Flame me all you want. Go ahead.

Discuss.

Jagex will soon enough open more methods of payment in other countries.

Hello Nox,

Thank you for contacting Jagex Billing Support.

I must be honest with you and tell you that I dont believe there are currently any plans to expand the billing options in South Africa. However when we say we wish to continuously improve the payment methods available to our customers we do mean it.

I think there is a lot of useful information in your email and I will be passing it along to my superiors here. We do recognise that many of our players are not old enough to make use of some of the payment methods we allow and if the alternatives we provide for South Africa are not suitable we will look into this.

Im afraid that changes to our billing processes are not made quickly and especially if we are looking at a new payment partner this takes much negotiation. This means you will not see a change in the next few months.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with this appraisal.

Kind regards,

Mod Alistair

Jagex Billing Support

While the above email relates only to South Africa, I did ask about other countries, and seeing as Asia most likely has a much bigger fan base than what my country has, it is without a doubt that they would expand there first. If you are not patient enough to wait, then I would suggest paying for a membership through a mail order.

As for the topic of your post, I agree with you 100%

well thought out, I agree with you totally!!

I'm mems until the end of septembr, but then I'll be back to f2p at level 119/120, I'm pretty much boned at dungeoneering!! Does anyone know if the 47 Prestige bonus carries from mems to f2p btw?

Look guys... I absolutely must be a mass baby-seal murderer!

I agree so much about your last point about membership. Faced the same problem for years playing F2P.

Wow, well that's idiotic.. ..and so jagex-like. The cap would make even a little sense if it was relative with your combat level but just cutting exp half at 90cb makes no sense. It's not any easier to fight that level 120 warrior in full primal with fractite weapons and weaker spells and less healing food. And the comment about those members doors was just not logical, they say f2p players should not get as much exp as p2p but with the new p2p-only floors that is the case even without the members doors in f2p. Idk if this is somesort of weird marketing-strategy to get more members?

About the payment thing, sure South Africa is one thing, but there is no reason to ignore it in Asia.

And Jagex logic has really gone down the drain nowadays. I thought Jagex said free play is not a demo? Now they're practically PRESSURING free players to become members. ;\

Not that I'm pressured, but it's just kinda sad.

Also I re-read the Jagex post, and it looks like they will tune down free play experience even further. Cap for all f2p plz? Better than the 90+ community which is the majority of f2p.

As a paying member, their response to member doors in F2P infuriates me. Honestly, they contradict themselves in that they go ahead and remove the Agility shortcuts and such, yet something that actually affects xp rates does not warrant a fix. I understand the caps, but losing out on base xp because one isn't a member simply is a low blow and erases any good thoughts I had about Jagex before this update. <_<

I agree, all F2P should be punished, not just 90+, it's unfair!

The reason why you get lower exp is because you don't pay. Members financially support Jagex and help them produce content like dungeoneering. You really should be grateful that the skill is available at all to free players, who give nothing in return for Jagex's hard work.

As some people rioting somewhere in runescape about something a long time ago said as part of the riot: "We pay, We say."

Thats only really half the issue here.

The main issue is that this only applies to level 90+ F2pers, why are players so penalized for getting a higher level?

I understand the idea behind penalizing higher levels, since when it first came out maxed members could come to f2p and get fast exp easily.

However I think that there should be a progressive cap instead of how it is right now. Like maybe a 5% reduction every 10 combat levels up to 90 then 1 or 2% every additional 10 levels.

Once again, stupidity arises in the forums with a bunch of "be grateful f2p gets stuff" responses...

Can both of you not read? This isn't about updates, it's about how higher levels are the ONLY ones penalized.

I said that because by level 90 you are expected to get membership or quit. And you can always buy a membership card on the internet.

I find it to be more efficient to do a bit more preparation than level 90 on free play, so I can actually get the most out of membership.

For example, 100 combat for the ability to use Duradel. 2 99 stats for a trimmed skillcape, one of the best capes in members. 70 attack/defense for whips/barrows. 99 strength for an advantage with slayer. 93 dungeoneering for all occult floors. Millions and MILLIONS of cash for member activities. And of course all the levels needed for quests.

And you can buy one off the internet? Cool, never knew that. But I'm still not counting on that to get membership as I don't really trust internet deliveries.

oh.. how about this ... you pentalize members who decide to play on f2p worlds... instead of pentalizing a f2per who plays on f2p worlds... genious! This way you dont have members coming on f2p worlds to get through the lower level dungeons faster... This would also allow them to remove p2p doors from f2p! Maybe the logic in england is different than america.. but they must be smoking something if they think their logic is correct... Its almost a communistic point of view.... where is the incentive to do better? They are encouraging a mediocre state...They should be encouraging people to max out on f2p .. not discourage it... If they truly believe that f2p is its own seperate entity and not a demo then they should/will remove the cap and member doors/rooms.

Please search the hiscores for names like "el popo1" " S diamant Y" "Pietha" and "water is nat" then apologise for making such a stuck up, ignorant and sweeping statement.

So its if you are 90 + cmb you get screwed and get halved exp.

If you are 89 you get normal exp.

I don't find punishing higher levels fair.

This kind of thing would be alright. But I agree with Sonic in that they should AT LEAST penalize all of F2P, not just those who worked for higher levels.

And the members doors thing... that really made zero sense to me, too. I can find no way that removing those would "unbalance" our dungeons.
