"All men are created equal"

It's mostly the environment that makes it who we are. Most of us are created similarly (except deformations), and it's all variables in a person's life that makes us unique.

I was astounded by the six year old pianist. She's absolutely fantastic.

Exactly. This alone creates a dispute of why all men aren't created equal. TY for proving my point.

Linkspam in mah TIF! I remember the days when people would, at the very least, write their own opinions in the OP. Whatever.

Without getting flamed back?

It's a little extreme, but I can see some logic behind it (referring to the article linked).

Perspective, perspective, perspective. That's what makes us unequal. Agon, an Ancient Greek concept, covers this quite well. It judges the innate goodness of ... Well, everything. But it takes it in from a certain viewpoint. For example: a big dead tree is great for me. It may be more useful than a small live one. I can turn it into firewood or construction wood. Or just sit on it when I'm tired.

But for a small bird, or perhaps a little insect, the live tree is far more good, even though it is small.

All you have to know is: you're the judge. You can judge whatever you want. You may think it sounds egotistical or whatever, but eons of evolution (or creation, or combustion - whatever) have ended up in you. Take advantage of that specialness.

God, I'm inspirational.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Anytime. ;)

I disagree. To a certain extent, yes, it's talent...to a certain extent, chances are she started learning the piano at the age of two, and was fairly pressured by her parents to work hard towards it. Sometimes the education system forgets is the younger we are, the better we learn stuff. Some/many young prodigies are just people that started working hard towards something at a very young age due to their parents.

No, not all people are equal...but a lot of it comes down to the nurture vs nature argument. The whole "blacks are inferior" thing, for instance, seemed to revolve around societal and sociological trends, not actual genetics.

Personally, I think the rich Texan dropping out of high school to form his own company is a better example of some people being created better then others.

But to be honest, at the end of the day, not all people ARE created equal. But you also need to consider the nature vs nurture idea, and just simple luck. Example: Let's say, 30 years ago someone won a few million from a lottery, and invested it in microsoft. That guy would now be pretty damned well off.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

I actually read another one of his articles that was linked to in that one - about the often self-destructive behavior practiced by blacks today. It was quite interesting.

Um, okay so? I'm not getting the purpose of the article besides repeating old information to try to scare politically correct people.

What is this. What is this. Is this a undiscovered plot? To help strengthen the Op's post? Shame.

Lemme read it.

Mozart, like the girl, was made a prodigy, not born one. Mozart's father rigorously trained him from an early age, and it paid off. He became a prodigy, earning perfect pitch and decent harpsichord skills by the time he was 7 or 8. The girl also had at least three teachers that I could tell, training her from two to six. She wasn't born a prodigy, she was just made into one.

We're all born the same, the circumstances and opportunities that are presented to us in life are what make us different.

I read the whole article. It was really interesting, but like other people said it wasn't anything new.

I'm willing to bet you guys saying you know this didn't come up with it entirely on your own. Don't hate, you were little too one day.

Rangeor, I know a guy that's nothing short of the most incapable person I've met. He can't do anything well, he's a terrible drummer, gets terrible grades, has barely improved in skateboarding since he started, etc. You're telling me he's born equal?

[Edit] Oh, and he's ugly, ugly as sin.

Didn't bother with the article, after reading:

Humanity isnt really that valuable to begin with.

I feel sorry for the author, really. I'm not going to waste any of my time arguing with someone about the worth of an individual if they have that belief. I wonder if they're an environmentalist...

Well... some sin is pretty... :]

And of course not, I for one(can't speak for anyone else here) was merely putting I didn't learn anything. Not saying you are any less of a person if you didn't know it. I'm in College, I'm bound to know things younger people don't.

You don't. Some people here have never thought of this, myself included.

sees_all, the author is saying humanity isn't worth anything to Nature. Of course, to us, it's of immense importance.

I believe everyone is created equal. Some might get a genetic advantage but that only goes so far. Life is about playing the hand your dealt, it's about attitude.

I agree with this.

I believe everyone is created equal. Some might get a genetic advantage but that only goes so far. Life is about playing the hand your dealt, it's about attitude.

When you go outside, what do you see? Almost perfectly equal humans, all of the same size, colour, intellect, gender, goals in life, attactions, etc, or people who differ in all the aspects I just mentioned? I guess we can agree the second choice here is the right one. We're all different. We're not even equally different. And it's thanks to that that everyone has the chance to do something unique in his life. From what I understand, most people like to believe we're all equal because it's nice to give everyone the same chances in life. But accepting the differences doesn't mean you can't help others. It's not impossible to be fair with everyone while knowing we're all different, you can give everyone the same chances if you balance them accordingly to the differences (don't get me wrong though, I didn't say I liked this idea, I'm no communist either). But well I guess I'm starting to get too close to politics here, so I'll drop it there.
