Post-hardcore

Post-hardcore is a genre of music that developed from hardcore punk, itself an offshoot of the broader punk rock movement. Like post-punk, post-hardcore is a term for a broad constellation of groups who emerged from the hardcore punk scene, or took inspiration from hardcore, while concerning themselves with a wider palette of expression, closer to experimental rock.

This thread is for discussing the post-hardcore music genre. Allot of people refer to post-hardcore bands "screamo" or "emo."

For more of a general idea of what post-hardcore is here is a list of bands.

A lot more people need to listen to them.

Anyways, I love good Post-hardcore. Thrice, Glassjaw, Trophy Scars, BATS, Unwound, letlive., A Static Lullaby, and Dance Gavin Dance are all really great. I'm sort of surprised by the lack of attention Glassjaw and Thrice get here though to be honest.

Glassjaw and Thrice are sweet post-98 bands. The genre has kind of taken a nosedive in my opinion and it's now less about wacky experimentation and abstraction and more about silly fringes and falsetto whine. Some bands have some okay stuff but a lot of it is sterile compared to Refused, Unwound and Fugazi... Each to their own.

None of these modern bands will ever match this intensity.

ruerin, I highly suggest you listen to the letilive. song I posted. They're heavily Glassjaw influenced, but still definitely have their own sound, and they have an insane live show as well. They are newer, but they really don't sound like any new post-hardcore.

I wouldnt really consider Refused post-hardcore though.

Also, where do you recommend I Start with Fugazi?

It's good. I agree, they don't sound like they're in the new wave.

The Shape of Punk to Come is experimental even for post-hardcore. They were ahead of their time even then.

Repeater + 3 Songs and then get The Argument. If you like those, you'll probably enjoy the rest too.

Post-hardcore is almost certainly my favourite genre also, it just sounds perfect to me <3:

Gotta add the band Escape The Fate, they are AMAZING and as post-hardcore as you can get tbh, and both of their albums are through Epitaph.

Here's some We Are The Ocean that you could add:

I would say 95% of post hardcore bands are garbage, in my opinion.

The only band I even come close to liking in the OP is underoath.

(Fugazi is legit though)

Escape the Fate? psh....thats barely hardcore. it's like pretty boy metal. If N*Sync made a baby with KISS, Escape the Fate would be the result.

And Victory Records has WAY better bands than Epitaph ever will.

This.

They released one song called massacre on their Myspace, which I think is part of their new album.

I really wanna see them live someday, but they don't do many gigs in the UK, and the closest is London, which is far enough away <_<
