Half full.
*Takes a swig*
Now it's empty. Instead of thinking about the glass, why not do something with it?

Half empty is a more logical assumption in terms of planning because I find it better to overshoot the negativity of a situation in preparation for the worst, that way you're prepared for the worst possible situation and in the greater chances that the situation isn't so bad it's a relief and pleasant surprise.

Forget half full/half empty. By half, it has to be exactly half, even if it's off by one drop, it's something completely different, no?

This is physically impossible. Not only would it be difficult, but liquids evaporate and glass warps.

If the glass is half anything, you need to measure more accurately.

The glass does not exist. Bickering and optimism are useless in a world of lies.

"Is the glass 49.5% full, or 50.5% empty?"

Half empty. If it ends up being half full, then life's all the better the next day. :)

In my opinion, if you are fulling the glass up and you only get to half way its half full, and if you have a full cup but drink half its then half empty.

Anyway.. I'd say for me its half full.

Imagine saying that extra syllable when you dont have to :o

And its not really about the syllable, in dutch its halfvol and halfleeg which is just as long, but the former is just easier to pronounce.

I've decided to turn this into a general philosophy thread.

Here's a new question;
If a tree falls in a forest, but no one is around to hear it, is it really a sound?

Of course it makes a sound. Sound does not simply stop because nobody can hear it actually make the noise. The sound is there regardless.

A sound is defined as a sound wave, or a vibration in the air (arbitrary definition by me by the way). And the tree creates these vibrations in the air that we call sound. So yes.

However, is it really a sound if there is nothing to interpret it as such? Sound is our brains making sense of those vibrations.

To quote a certain comic:
"If a tree falls in the middle of the forest, and no-one is around to hear it, how many liberals will it take to reinforce all of the trees around it?"

The only difference between Hitler and the man next door who comes home and beats his kids every day is circumstance. The intent is the same-- to harm others.
