I had dismissed The Devil Wears Prada a long time ago, but I gave a listen to the Zombie EP and it's actually pretty good. Nothing special in terms of instrumentation or anything, but I like the use of movie sound clips and other effects like car alarms and stuff. Pleasantly surprised.

I agree, I'm not huge on TDWP, but that album blew my mind with the concept and presentation.

Someone said In Flames.

That's not metalcore...I thought they were death metal/more hardcore than just metalcore.

The better metalcore tends to have less metal than hardcore aggression in their sound (although I'll second BTBAM), often accompanied with some mathy influence. I'll recommend Converge very highly, especially the albums Jane Doe and No Heroes.

Botch are good, although they're a bit of a brain-blitzer sometimes.

There's also the crossover thrash which was originally called metalcore before the likes of KsE came along and stole the name, like Cryptic Slaughter, D.R.I., M.O.D. and S.O.D. All are highly recommended, although I'm sure it's not what you're looking for.

Trap Them could be called metalcore, and are excellent - they combine death metal, hardcore and grindcore with hardcore being the predominant element in their sound.

Earth Crisis are okay.

Apart from that, I'll advise you stay the hell away from most of the genre.

I recommend Dir En Grey (deathcore/metalcore; good Japanese band, although you may want to skip their music videos xD), the Black Dahlia Murder (their Ritual album is great), and Between the Buried and Me.

I honestly don't know how to properly categorize TBDM, because you can hear the death/melodic metal in them, the vocals are really metal/death-core, though, to what I know.

Either way, good band to listen to. :P

Betraying the martyrs

all of which I'd consider to be more among the classification of modern post-hardcore
