TheAncient
Kiting Definition: Run away from a boss/player, then attack, then run away, etc. (think Sara GWD) Why don't people kite in Runescape? It's not as if it isn't that useful. It increases your relative DPS against other players for PvP if you use a slow weapon. It also decreases DPS against you for bosses like Bandos. A really good weapon to kite with would be the chaotic maul. Ever wanted to find street prices of RS items? Bladewing
it's used at saradomin solo pkers dont want to fight someone who is going to be running around the whole time, so people don't do it cause their opponents will refuse to fight them rapier is as fast as any monster attack (bar saradomin), so there's no point kiting. Cheefoo
I've seen people use this in PvP, but it only really works on frozen opponents. Or possibly opponents with zero run energy... maybe we've found a use for leech run energy? TheAncient
For PvP it works best when you can trap an opponent around rocks. What you do is run away and trap them behind the rock, wait until your attack is ready again, and hit in. This can really advantage you in a Rapier vs Maul battle. Not using it in PvP is like not using protect prayers because your opponent whines about it. They'll whine about it, but if it helps me out, I'm gonna do it. Kiting well / keeping distance is actually a crucial part to tribriding well. It's also how good magers can beat rangers (utilizing the 1 more additional spacing magic has against ranged). What I do when I'm maging and face a ranger is I get the first barrage off, switch to range, get a hit in, walk back 10 steps, and kite with mage. It works very very well. Also you can't always run (castle wars, clan wars, most of safe pvp)Well, if you are kiting with a hand cannon you shouldn't be taking damage so i don't understand the point. It's not like having a 2 handed range weapons means you get half the defense, you can still freeze people and cannon them from a distance they can't reach. Also i don't think kiting is exceptionally important for newb pvp- what will they do? kill you? oh, it's safe... On pvp servers, however, if you kite, they pray= no fight. It's really only a strategy against those that are forced to be in combat with you- monsters, pvp teams and maybe stupid safe-pvp'ers who can't play it smart(as there is no reason to stay in combat with someone kiting you). Obtaurian
Kiting is really only useful in a select few circumstances. If there were spells that drained run energy and pushed your opponent backwards, I think it'd be a much more accepted term. SirIzenhime
You can only Kite if you're oppenent is Bound in place (from an ice spell probably), or they're walking. So unless you freeze a player, it's completely usefull in any pvp situation, since usually people are on run, and will just keep up with you anwyays. It actually IS used quite often by Hybrids btw, at least the ones that actually know what they're doing. It also IS used on bosses. When people do bando solos, they'll run away/under bandos, so they can eat without getting hit by the boss. When I tank for zammy teams, I run under K'ril the whole time so he can only get off a few hits per round. It's basically the same concept.
