Partyhats

Partyhats, as we know it are impossible to obtain through normal means of saving up $$ and finally buying that must have item...The

price established for partyhats are exorbitantly high to shun away from the public market. Now what we have are unofficial street prices

to determine what partyhats are worth. You will notice that the top 4 partyhats (green, red, white, blue) exceeds the maximum cash

limit to buy them with the addition of junk that must be compensated for trade. What do you think about this? As far as I

can remember, there were NO specific situation like this. Ever.

Is it fair for partyhat owners to hoard their glory in owning these trinkets and restrict on selling back for profit? More importantly,

are there any solutions in "fixing" this problem to where partyhats can be distributed again?

I'm sorry if I offended any merchants/phat owners out there. I own a green partyhat myself so please bare with me.

I really don't care if people hoard phats. I know that I will never be able to have one and i'm ok with that because in the long run phats are a very marginal part of the game and have no use except for showing off wealth.

If I were to ever get that kind of wealth I would be more likely to use the money for skills or into high level important gear like a divine or idk.

If you have one, they are worth every single last gold piece to keep. Because if you sell it, you may never get it back. And also because it's so easy to make cash these days - one should never, ever be sold for the cash.

Buying one... tough call. For new players, I'd say they are most definitely not worth the time and effort. It's just too much now. Partyhats seem to be reserved for those that already have the street to buy one, or almost have enough at this time. This isn't something that is completely fair or isn't fair at all... it just is.

I honestly don't care for them like I use to, I'd rather invest money into skills than buy a silly hat that does nothing.

I knew this kind of comment would come right around the corner.

"A silly hat that does nothing." A flaw to this is that no matter how useless it is, the price is determined by

demand. The usefulness can only go so far but other variables like the rarity of the item and

how hot and sexy the item is can also increase demand. You may never know what people will pay for!

I don't understand why everyone over analyzes the situation. Some people want party hats. Some have the money to afford and pay a large amount. Others sell their hats, and even merchant them. That's about it. Why there is a "problem" that needs to be "fixed" or why people think jagex should interfere is beyond me.

Sure, they are in a unique situation compared to most other rs items. But if you can't afford a hat and don't think you can, why in the world should jagex remove them? Let party hats affect their owners and potential buyers. I don't understand why anyone else who isn't involved in the market cares.

From the way i see it, the people that think something should be done usually just can't afford them and are in some way jealous or have some grudge against them ( not that i am not saying that is anyone in this thread, just making a generalization about people i have seen)

As for it being fair, well most with their hats have them because they worked in some way for it. So i guess they deserve to do whatever they want with it. This issue touches other issues such as manipulation and merchanting in general, but everyone has their own opinion on that.

He is a frequent poster on that thread, a thread with no relevance to this thread. Understand what you're talking about before you post.

OT: I don't think phats are worth bothering with anymore, and I've had a yellow which I sniped from ge before. All it did was just hoard cash for me :x.

If you use all your cash to obtain one, they are not worth it. If you are utterly rich, go for it.

I knew someone would reply to my comment, it's good that you had to mention things I already knew about a phat. It's like, every forum I go to, you get to have no opinion.

I've never been very concerned with acquiring a partyhat, as I'm not involved in merchanting or anything like that. I like items that are practical for combat, so the only reason I could see myself owning a partyhat is to trade one for a divine.

That said, should a day come when I have the very best gear, have all of my buyable skills maxed out, and absolutely nothing else to buy, I would probably start trying to collect rares.

I got all mine from when they were crashing way back when.

I somewhat foresaw the huge spike & took advantage of it - Mainly not caring about the loss I'd take.

As you said, is it wrong for hoarders like me to hoard them?

Yes.

Why?

It prevents you from getting one.

Will that encourage me to sell them to you?

No.

Why not?

Because what would selling you one for trade price possibly gain over selling for 3B SP.

^ That's how merchants view it & it'll never change.

The demand is just so high & continually increasing.

If you don't have one now, you never will.

I completely disagree with you. If you stick to it, you can achieve it. I have gone through acquiring one without having any rares beforehand, and I've seen many other people who have also.

Your truth is a lie.

You buy Phats with StreetPrice, not G.E. price.

Starting out as poor gets you nowhere close to the SP unless you learn to flip.

I've come to the conclusion I'll just never be able to afford a red partyhat which I've wanted for so long. Oh well, I'm over it  Sooner or later I'll get something just as good that people will want to trade for. Whether it's something worth millions in street price from an elite clue. It's only a matter of time, as I slay A LOT :D

Hm I never got a party hat, and have only had a santa hat back when they were way cheaper. I didn't care much for it, so I assume I would feel the same way about another hat that does nothing but look shiny.

Like many others have said, it's fine with me that they are ridiculously expensive, as I don't really care.

I personally wanted a white partyhat (and the silly thing is I had enough to buy one back when I had the chance!). Now I think that

getting one would require a lot of ambition which is something I can't afford on a computer game.

You at least have the opportunity

to flip items, build street, and possibly snipe one from the GE which does require intense difficulty.

In real life, there are lots of things that could be harder than getting a partyhat but the problem is that people don't tend to realize this.

Like buying your first Ferrari, house, and investing in a business...Those could only be accomplished by the lucky few....

But getting a partyhat in Runescape? Nah.

What a well thought out response. :)

I couldn't agree more.

If you're not in the Phat/Edible Market now, then just keep out of it.

You're only going to cause yourself a bigger headache than you make for us who are in the Market reading all the "OH I DESERVE A PHAT CAUSE I MADE MONEY BY DOING <Such and such> SO SELL ME ONE PLZ IT'S MY LIFE-LONG DREAM!!!" pity stories.

I have sympathy, yes. But to reward every pity story leaves me bankrupt.

Nothing good comes from a Greedy Community.

Simple solution would be just to make it so that you can only have 1 of any party hat , santa or mask. The rest get sold on ge for max value. That way if anyone can actually afford one they can get off the ge and if any of the hoarders no longer want a particulare colour of phat they can still be sold on the ge and a new one gotten later if they really want. And not only that but then accounts who have been abandoned with multiple rares still in their bank will have those rares added back into the market.

But as it is now... unless you already have a rare there is no way that you are going to get one, simply because no one sells one for anything but other rares anymore.

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

There used to be a Thread about doing exactly this, more-like a petition.

A J-Mod ended up replying to it by saying pretty much just "Hmmmmmmmmmm...." & started like 70+ pages of replies there-on.

It was in the Items Forum, I'm sure it's still there.

Try to find it & read up on it, because I think that's JaGeX's plan.

However, I think JaGeX should let the Phats update more frequently so they can lose demand faster (Due to players' lack of being able to afford them) eventually leading them to fall in Street Price, drop in G.E. price, then get bought out again. But this time, in different hands of hoarders - Mainly the collectors.

Would this be a better situation at all for the Economy if all that were to happen?

No.

So truly, it's best for JaGeX to just leave well enough alone & watch it playout from here - No matter how bad it gets.

__________

& One more thing.

To limit rares, that means the extras would need to be removed.

How would this be done exactly?

Transfer all the extras to the G.E. for Max, Lowest, or Mid price? Most likely, right?

Well, that'd make a first come first serve to those who sniped them.

...But...

Maybe a sniper sniped two? How would the G.E. determine to ONLY sell one to one player through the G.E.?

As you can see, this process seems EXTREMELY difficult to fall through successfully without flaw.

This could explain why nothing hasn't really been done about the D'Item Market for so long - Mainly due to a finding a fair solution verses an achievable solution through Java.

Regardless however, RWT IS affecting the Market heavily. It's only increasing to grow as well.

The third richest player was banned some odd weeks ago (Alish...) for RWTing her Phats - As you may or may not know.

This obviously brings attention to JaGeX's eyes I'm sure.

& I guarantee you they're going to find a way to stop it.

JaGeX says RWT ruins their game.

So why should Discontinued Items be an exception?
