This Thread is closed - I've made another to keep things organised for myself and for others (I hope).

Hello! I'm looking into buying a computer for medium amounts of gaming and multitasking during the day. I made a thread a long while ago about building my own, but after an equally long while of working and saving, and other things (driving, investments...) coming up, I feel like I would just end up better off with a pre-built.

Anyways, here are three Newegg packages that fall nicely into my immediate budget, and seem to look pretty well off to my amateur eye:

1) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227274

2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227301

3) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229193

All have variants of Athlon II x4 processors, and the main difference seems to be in gpu's - Radeon HD 5770, 5570, and 5670. My personal thought is that options 1 or 3 are the best...

What I mostly want to know is these things:

a) Are these good deals, or would I be tossing my money to something low-quality?

b) Are iBuyPower and CyberPowerPC trustworthy/quality brands to buy from?

c) Are the used Athlon II x4 processors strong choices, or are they outdated?

Thanks in advance for the support, any more details or thoughts I get will be noted ^_^

Hey.

I can't really comment on the Athlon II x4 processors (in my mind AMD is a lesser CPU brand compared to intel) but I will say that iBuyPower is pretty crappy. CyberPowerPC I haven't actually had any experience with. Honestly though if I were personally going with a pre-built machine I'd go with a more known brand.

I Just wrote and accidentally deleted a fairly long post  so here's the summary.

-iBuyPower sucks. Very good to know.

-AMD vs. Intel is more of a monetary thing to me, I undersatnd that Intel is stronger, especially at higher levels, but how do midrange AMD (Phenom II x4, x6) cores compare to an i5?.

-Also, if I buy ATI graphics, is that more compatible with AMD? Because I plan to buy ATI

-I am still looking around towards custom builds, but I'm also very open to strong pre-built choices.

-My price range is under or close to $1000 dollars, with a monitor and an OS. So, around $800 for the build itself, but preferably less.

AMD/Intel/Nvidia all mix without shooting each other.

I checked HP, and there was no proper gpu to choose from.

Both Ibuypower and Cyberpower have had significant quality issues in the past. While I am unaware of any very recent complaints, I would still stay away from them just because of the sheer volume of complaints in the past - it was so bad at times it seemed that neither company operated any QC.

If you have a few hours to tinker, build your own computer. It is an immensely rewarding experience that should also save you some money.

Here's a build I came up with:

DVD Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151175

Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151175

Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181

Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128431

Graphics Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161338

PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005

RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231180

CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727

It's very similar to yours, OldJoe. Only the motherboard Case, DVD, PSU and CPU are different. I'm curious as to what you think of it, since you've helped out a bunch in the past. I feel like I could down on the PSU a bit.

I'm very close to a computer - I'm pretty much set on decision to build now, since pre-builts seem to be countered by diy'ing. I have about $750+ as of now, and I might actually be able to get something within this week (or when I have time. School is quite inconvenient >.>)

Not sure what else to say. I'm coming within visible reach, and I feel like I might begin to panic about things breaking or whatnot lol :ohnoes: All help is greatly appreciated!

Budget is $800, eh?

Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB - $75

Mushkin Enhanced DDR3-1333 4GB - $67

Cooler Master Silent Pro 600W & HAF 912 combo - $110

Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB & Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 - $314

Core i5-750 (quad) & Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 - $221

Grand total: $788. Shipping ends up being around $5 and there may be taxes.

Take the DVD drive from your current PC and put it into this one. Also, the cooler that comes with the combo isn't the best, but unless you're trying to break world records on overclocks you should be fine.

Id get this HD instead. You save $5, and WD tends to be a better brand, IMO.

Not exactly. Samsung Spinpoints are more reliable in terms of read/write speed, heat, and noise. The only advantage the Caviars have (Black, not Blue like you posted ;)) is slightly lower latency and more cache. They also tend to have a lower failure rate than Caviars. Not to mention they're usually cheaper (I got one just a month or so ago for $60.) Still, it's worth shelling out the $75 for.
