You could try your luck. I got my first rune in under 1k tokens, although some have taken more than 10k+ tokens.

It can be really frustrating. I think it took me over 2500 tokens to get to rune.

depends on how fast you kill the cyclopes. i can get a defender about every 100 tokens because i use extremes and turmoil with void and rapier, but if you use full rune and a dragon longsword without pots or prayer you'll get them a lot slower.

 

my advice is get 1000 tokens and see how far that gets you.

And really, there is no guarantee he is ever going to get one, so any exact number we give him is useless. As said, 3k can be a nice estimate, but it also depends on alot of factors, for example killing speed, how packed the place is etc. I've personally never had problem accumulating them, i think i got up to rune in around 1k tokens.

Try to find a empty world, then try to kill different cyclops and not just camp a spot. It's a rumour ive heard about, i felt it worked and it doesn't hurt to try ;-)

That's like the method of alternating monsters when hunting champ scrolls, it probably has no effect on the outcome or the rate that it drops but it helps to decrease boredom. I'd say around 2-3k tokens as well, might as well use them all up even if you get a rune def before they run out in case you lose it.

just as i get to using up 1K tokens i get the iron defender...finally...
