Getting back into Runescape.

I haven't played good old RS for atleast 3 years. But I am thinking of going back. I was hoping maybe people would help me get back on the track. Like what has changed and so on. I am a f2p user so luckily I don't care about most of the updates.

So now there is some kind of a grand exchange where people can quickly and easily sell their things? No more wilderness (or atleast pvp)? Are there any new items I should get, armor wise? I saw that there is a new Dungeoneering skill and a new activity for f2p. For example with dungeoneering I saw that one of the rewards was a Coal pouch. Seems like it would make mining coal easier. And there were some runecrafting things with the activity. Then there are these new challenges. I read how you can get a ring which lets you teleport for example. Seems very handy, specially when fishing (don't remember the island's name, but yeah, when running back and forth between bank and the island). But those are probably just few examples I have already heard about.

Thanks in advance.

Basically the grand exchange is a massive market where you can sell any item and buy any item, although there are some restrictions to what you can buy, like 4000 of each type of rune per 4 hours or something like that, and you may notice that the prices of items, rune for example will change very often due to people or merchanting clans buying lots of that item making its price go up.

There is also a new skill called dungeoneering, which is where you can enter a dungeon on your own or with a group of people, in the dungeon you have to explore it and may encounter monsters, puzzles, traps and even a boss at the end of the dungeon. as an extra note you cant take any of your own items into the dungeon and you make, get, collect your armour weapons while in the dungeon.

I hope some of that helped ^^

PvP still exists, just in a rather non-traditional sense. There is whole-world PvP (on select servers) and Bounty Hunter, which takes place in the wilderness. Both automatically skull you upon entering the worlds, and on select BH worlds, you automatically keep one item. As opposed to back in 2007, instead of receiving your opponent's inventory upon his death, drops are randomly generated based on "earning potential." That is, the longer you stand in a dangerous area with 76k+ worth of items risked, the higher it will be.

Grand Exchange is a great tool. Sure, it exists at the cost of free trade, but it makes buying/selling thing infinitely easier. Each item has a maximum and minimum, and will fluctuate by the law of supply and demand. One problem, though, is that now raw materials are worth less than their finished products.

As F2P, rune armor is still pretty much the best, save degradable corrupt dragon armor and rewards from Fist of Guthix. Also, you should work on obtaining Explorer's Ring 3 (or 4 if you can), as it will automatically teleport you to the cabbage patch north of Port Sarim. You mentioned fishing, but I believe there is a man on the island of Karamja (south of the volcano I believe) who will either note or bank your raw fish for you, so that should make it a little easier.

Dungeoneering is merely a mini-game presented as a skill by Jagex. The rewards are great, though. Some you may be interested in...

  • Gem bag- Can hold up to 100 Sapphires, Emeralds, Rubies, or Diamonds (total, not each).
  • Coal bag- Can hold up to 27 pieces of coal. Coal in the bag will be used before coal in the inventory when superheating or smelting.
  • Longbow sight- Increases the ranged attack of a maple longbow to 110 and a magic longbow to 140.
  • Scroll of Efficiency- Once used, the scroll will disappear, giving you the following permanent effect: whenever you smith an item that requires three or more bars to create, there is a chance that you will retain a bar.
  • Magical Blastbox- Used to hold the runes for and bolt or blast spell in a single inventory space.
  • Arcane pulse/blast necklace- Worn in the amulet slot, these necklaces boost your Magic Damage as follows:
    * Arcane pulse necklace: +5% Magic Damage
    * Arcane blast necklace: +10% Magic Damage
  • Tome of frost- Wielded in the shield slot, the Tome of Frost provides an infinite stock of Water runes.
  • Gravite weapons- When you buy Gravite weapons, they are automatically set at 20% charge. A fully charged Gravite weapon lasts for 10 hours of combat. You can recharge these weapons at the rewards trader for a fee of cash or a combination of cash and Dungeoneering tokens. These are much stronger than their rune counterparts.

Player since 2004. All skills 1M+ XP.

I like the fact that I must collect everything while in the dungeon. That way I don't need to bring anything and I can take the items that I find back out, right? :P

Is there any penalty for going alone instead with friends?

Well, officially it's called a bonus for teams, but effectively it's a penalty for solo.
