Solo vs. Team Dungeoneering

I've been grinding solo dungeons for a while now, and my exp rate still seems abysmal. Most of my friends who have 99+ dungeoneering strongly suggest that I stop soloing, but I've tried to do team dungeons and everyone else just takes as many drops as they possibly can, with no forethought or even basic understanding of the skill's mechanics. Honestly I find co-op dungeons unbearable.

That said, just how big is the discrepancy between solo and co-op dungeoneering exp rates? I'd like to keep training, but I may just have to bite the bullet and find a decent team if it's supposed to be a co-operative skill - a terrible first, if it is.

Leave the last 5-10 levels (depends on your dung level) for teaming.Solo the others.Try and hookup your friends into a dungeon as it'll make you feel better.Finding a team is a pain most of the time and then you get the ones that get out of the dung if they get killed making it impossible for the rest to finish the dungeon.

Just keep trying, teaming dungeon is generally viewed as better than soloing even with all the delays.

I'll let some top dung'ers to answer in a more detailed way.Hope it helps.

I understand your point of view, as I also love to solo floors. (About 60-70% of my time spent doing dungeon is/was solo)

The XP for playing with other players is significantly higher (In some cases its double or even triple the xp of solo xp per hour!). That being said though, I would stay away from w117 teams unless you have no other choice.

The reason I don't like w117 teams is because:

1) They all steal as much food as they can

2) They only have interest in doing floors as fast as possible

3) If someone happens to die and ragequits, you could end up wasting 30-40 minutes for worse xp than you get soloing.

4) If you don't have a hood, its very painful.

Instead of trying to pair up with random people, I would suggest you try to find a friend (or friends) that will dungeon with you. Don't fall into the common consensus that you HAVE to do large floors on your higher floors.

Doing mediums with 2 people is still much better xp than doing small/medium solo. Find a friend, or 2, or 3, that you want to play with and just enjoy doing your floors. Its somewhat easy to find someone who is willing to 2:1 c6 small with you on any floors 1-25, since most people c1 rush those floors anyways.

If you take anything with you from my post though: It should be to have fun, and don't worry about other players XP per hour compared to yours. Playing with friends is more fun and more xp, but don't feel like you have to play with someone. Playing with random people is usually more of a headache than it is worth.

This is why I'm maxed combat with 2300+ skill levels and only 66 dung, mostly from tears. Solo is excruciating, but multi was even worse for me.

I'm waiting for Jagex to balance out solo XP rates, but since that probably wont ever happen, my dung level will always be miserable.

There is nothing wrong with #2, it's the sole purpose of most teams, not just w117.

I would recommend w148, even though it could be just as bad as w117 at times, it's a decent enough alternative.

Personally, I'd advise to team everything you can. Once you get a really bad team, one with quitters abound, maybe take a break from RS or try any solo activity. I have no idea how the xp rates compare, but I think teaming is an essential part of the dungeoneering experience. That includes dealing with the selfish, the ignorant, the arrogant, the lazy, the spiteful and whatnot (but not quitters, can't really deal with that). But that's just a personal quirk.

Duoing is also cool, less chance of communication breakdown. Probably the best course of action after soloing if you don't think going straight to teaming is for you.

Well, in the context I was stating that comment was: w117 players tend to ONLY have an interest in getting their own personal xp up as fast as possible, and do not care about the xp of any other player in the group.

Teams of friends will work together to ensure all players on the team get the best xp possible. Teams on w117 tend to only care about themselves and will often hide piles of food, or other resources, so they ensure their survival and their best possible xp per hour (not the general welfare and xp/hr of the team).

This is why if you were to go with a group, it would be much better to go with 1 or 2 friends, rather than a group of 4-5 people you don't know.

I guess i'm good at the every-man-for-himself kinda playing then, because I always team in w117 and I never really had a problem with food or other resources. Even though I do help out other people and contribute as much as I can.

Here's a little observation of mine though - team quality depends on the floor a lot more than you'd think. When i tried to do f25-30 larges in w117 it was a pain, because most of my teammates had no idea what they were doing, or wouldn't communicate, or both. However, when I got to occult floors evey team is full of friendly and efficient people. I guess experience at dungeoneering teaches you team skills.

5)If you kill a "dinosaur" they rage.(unless people stopped complaining about this?)
