why is the fictional article first? no offense to the author but i don't want to read that crap, it's not my cup o' tea.

in response to the second article: okay.

there's not really much to it but a brief summary of the viewpoints of the last 10 pages of general disc and the last few months of the times articles. the only thing i could even find to comment on is

"Skillers are an endangered species in Runescape, mostly because when people hear skilling they immediately think of grinding"

imo, skillers are endangered because they're useless but for their use as an epeen enlarger. only thing i could really comment on - the article was kind of lacking in substance for discussion.

Did you know...

... that a single God Arrow (Guthix/Saradomin/Zamorak) counts as a God item at the God Wars Dungeon?

Good to know I'm protected from guthix in gwd.

I don't think I added the Guthix/Sara/Zamorak part to it. The submissions get editted sometimes lol.

I didn't really read the times this week, seems a bit too much like the typical article

With the way you so eloquently word it, I'm finding it rather difficult to take offense.

"In order to lead, you must learn how to carry your followers upon your shoulders"

"A man is not only defined by his abilities, but also by those of the men with which he surrounds himself"

"The meek fight for skill and fame, the strong fight for power with the skill and fame they already have"

"There is no good without sacrifice and no sacrifice without mercy"

my point is a small one, but it is that the editor, knowing that the majority of readers prefer content articles to fictionals, should have put them in the right order.

imagine if your newspaper put advertisements and want ads only on the front page? yes some people do enjoy advertisements and want ads first and foremost, but the majority want the news first.

Ah, well then to that end we always (as far as I know) put our own writers in front of guest ones. Sorry for the... inconvenience of having to scroll past and ignore my article. I would ask you to read it, but I can already tell thats a lost cause.

I actually really enjoyed the fictional article. I was going to skip past but I'm glad I didn't!

As for the second article, I really hope Jagex continue down the path of less grinding and more changing gameplay. While it will cause leveling to take longer, it's a lot more fun.

I still don't like Dungeoneering as a skill. The thing that frustrates me is the dependency on other players to train it efficiently. If solo XP were increased (to about 85-95%) to rates closer to 5 man larges, I'd be solo'ing to 99.

This pretty much sums up Dung for me as well. If you could solo it and get decent XP rates, Id be onboard. Despite the assertions of the author, many of the objectors to this miscategorized minigame don't have any problems with it actually requiring some level of competence. It's the team aspect that is so [bleep]ing annoying.

I dislike grinding as much as anyone. But I dislike being thrust into awkward, forced partnerships more. And that's why Dung will forever be ToG & lamps only in my world.

I hate hearing statements like this. First off, while soloing may not be as efficient as groups that doesn't mean that it isn't still an effective way of training. I have a couple of friends who have passed the 99 milestone primarily through soloing dungeons. And secondly, I think that even if you want to train in groups for the better exp, that is no reason to force yourself into "awkward partnerships". That's what your friends are for! If you search around your friends lists I'm sure you'll find a few people that would enjoy training with you. Besides, dungeoneering is far more fun when you're playing with your friends than it is by yourself or with random people.

It's not a matter of whether I could find people who would enjoy training with me. It's actually vice-versa.

I am not interested in clearing my bathroom breaks with other people, scheduling my Dung runs when other people have free time or being booted by some tight-assed, high-strung elitist Dung players because I had to answer the door or phone.

Group questing just doesn't fit my playing paradigm and that will never change.

That's your opinion, but it's not mine - and it never will be.

Dungeoneering with a good team = tons of fun, especially when it's with friends.

Dungeoneering with a bad team = want to logout irl.

Article #2: Eh, was kinda the same thing I read every week.

Sorry for making content that creates incentive for player interaction in a roleplaying game?

I find dung frustrating a lot of times, but while it is tediously slow XP, I prefer it over anothert skill that would just be pure click X and make Y. I enjoy gaining 20k xp an hour doing dung more more over 500k xp an hour clicking on a knife and logs in my inventory.

I definately think Jagex is going in the right direction with dungeoneering. Grinding will always exist in any MMO, but Runescape definately needs more skills that don't involve uneventful tasks, like clicking on box traps or arrows all day long. Maybe dung can even teach people how to be more efficient.

I couldn't agree more with the idea that more "unbottable" skills that involve more complex actions are definately a good thing.

You realize you're playing an MMORPG right? Hint: Break down the first three letters.

If you refuse to play with other people, just stick to single player games.

The problem with Dungeoneering isn't that you can't solo effectively. The problem is that matchmaking isn't efficient enough yet.

This is partly because people insist on shouting out things like "F1-10!!!!!!!" in the main lobby rather than using the more convenient auto-grouping rooms. I mean, the majority of DG'ers probably don't need to stick to any ultra-specific settings and the ones who do are probably part of a clan or already have their set group of DG'ing mates.

Jagex really needs to make auto-grouping more efficient and add more sorting selections like Rushing. Dungeoneering is easily the best skill in the game because there is a very minimal grind to it and it is a lot of fun doing large dungeons with 5 people. Really requires skill to complete floors efficiently and maximize XP. However, grouping is such a pain.

I just wish more people used the auto-grouping rooms rather than shouting for options in the lobby. So pointless especially when most of the people are looking for options that the auto-grouping rooms provide. The stupidity of the RuneScape population is quite startling sometimes...

Some of it is kind of Jagex's fault, the grouping system really isn't very effective either. But yeah as long as Jagex makes finding dung teams easier dung would become so much more fun.

I never read the fictional articles normally. Heck, I barely read fiction works at all unless I'm forced to. And in this case, Bladewing forced me to. Enjoyable story Emerson. I chuckled, I reminisced, I was entertained for five minutes. If that's the goal of a fiction writer then well done.

Now as far as the skills article goes... Yeah could have gone a little more in depth I guess. For one thing, while dungeoneering may be designed in a way that takes players out of grind mode, the other skills have consistantly had at least attempts at non-grinding methods to train and maybe have a little fun. The artilce refrenced agility and its tedious circle running, but what about gnomeball? A terrible way to get levels quickly but it could be enjoyable to some. Needs some polish if you ask me. You didn't though, so I'll move on. Woodcutting has jungle clean up. Firemaking, prayer, combat, and crafting are all trainable while burning shades and vyrewatch. Theives can loot a pyramid, farmers can play mine...er I mean vinesweeper. And there's plenty more I'm not listing. For the old skills grinding exists as the quickest means of working on them, but not the only.

As far as dungeoneering goes, I do enjoy it. But I enjoy it as a mini game, not a skill. I say this because it doesn't really effect any other aspect of game. Where a high level miner can get better ores for smithing or a high agility player can take shortcuts around the world, and also enjoy some extra loot when pickpocketing, the high level dungeoneer really gets no direct benefit. The cool gear are all token based which makes them more like mini game rewards than achievements for levelling a skill, and the bonus dungeon areas don't really offer much that is new save for frost dragons. But then, is slaying dragons even new?

Seeing as it was a dry humor comedy piece, that was its intent so  ....but wait, Bladewing forced you to read it?
