Star_Fox
I want to know how changing my name will affect my life.I have some reasons why I should. I personally think my current name (Clifford) sounds old fashioned and picks up a lot of unwanted jokes like "Clifford the big red dog" which I am very sick and tired ofhearing. Also, I'm planning on changing my family name since most of my family thinks I'm insignificant and the fact that it rhymes with the word "Thong". I have no intentions on doing it now,but later when I have everything to myself. I WILL change my name no matter what you guys saybut I want to know what will happen and what you think about it. I can see where you're coming from. Strange, Clifton is a place name. I Actually think Clifford sounds pretty cool. It's a memorable name, which can come in handy later in life. I would suggest against it. I sometimes think changing my surname would be good, as it is said differently to how it is spelt, which makes a lot of people think I'm saying Dan Alison when in fact it is something totally different, just said roughly the same. But then I remember that a Surname is a very important thing to me. It is my link to my family and my roots. Want to be my friend? tripsis
but I want to know what will happen and how will it affect me?I can't imagine that it would affect you more than you feeling a disconnection from your family. Also it might make reconnecting with lost friends more difficult, should you ever choose to do that. It is good that you are choosing to wait because it is a pretty big decision and you need a lot of time to think about this. I don't know how old you are but I'm sure there is definitely a chance that you will change your mind later on. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Saru Inc
Someone once called a law firm, they changed their name to Barack Hoosane Obamaa (two a's) they thought it would be funny. Now they get pissed off "NO IM NOT A PRANK CALLER!@" That doesn't really have anything to do with the topic, I just found the way he spelled the middle name, and the two a's made me lol. I wouldn't change your name, I don't think anyone should ever change their name ever. To be honest, that's actually one of my strongest beliefs out there. I believe everyone is named a name for a reason, even if your parents picked a random name out of the book, or made a fake name as a joke. (When I say fake, I mean something off the wall like Clifford the Big Red Dogggy Dog, as a first name) Don't change your name, I am sure you will regret it. But changing a name back is sometimes harder than getting it changed. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Dupin
I thought this was about changing your TIF name (which is stupid), but changing irl is much more serious. It's really your choice, but I wouldn't do it. Your name is your name, and it has a deep association in the subconcious with your self. Having a few lame sounds-like jokes is pretty much a requirement with a name anyways.

obfuscator
If people want to make fun of you, they'll find a way to do it, through your name or otherwise. I'm not a huge fan of my name but I don't mind it, and I don't see much positive benefit unless I was planning to completely alienate everyone I knew. So go for it, I guess, but make sure you've thought it through fully. EarthySun
I would also recommend going for something that sounds good, but not too common. For instance, I was thinking of becoming Andrew Stirling or Andrew Destris or something along those lines. Those have a nice ring to them, while still remaining memorable and professional-sounding. fakeitormakeit2
From a Middle Eastern view, it doesn't matter what your surname is or no matter how bad it might sound, that is the name of your patriarch and it is a name to take pride in so it should not be altered. As for a first name, I don't think it has much bearing, it is just to distinguish which person you are in the lineage of *blank*. So in my opinion, a first name is rather insignificant so it shouldn't bear much weight and if it would benefit you then you should change it, but a surname is what you are. Personally I would never change my first and surname names because they are the same as several generations of Ottoman judges/pasha and my middle names are religious exultations. It's a rather big decision, so whatever you do I hope its the right choice and it makes you happy. He who wears his morality but as his best garment were better naked... I feel like you are particularly frustrated at your name at this very moment. By the time you're in college no ones gonna give a rats ass what your name is. Clifford's not taht bad of a name. When introducing yourself, just shorten it to 'Cliff' if if it bothers you that much. My boss's name is Cliff. And I only just now realized that his name is actually Clifford. How 'bout that? Or just pick a nickname you like. I have nicknames for samn near all my friends. Everyone from 'Babe' to 'D Rock'. 'Goat' to 'Boobs'. And finshing off my funny nickname list with 'Boner'. In fact I have one friend who's name is Devin, but he nicknamed himself Randy. Cause why not? Dont go off legally changing your name. tripsis
Making fun of people because of their name (and similar silly reasons) is such a high school and younger thing. As previously stated, when you get to college and later on in life there is far less teasing in general, especially over things like names. In fact, in the almost 1.5 years I've been in college I have not witnessed a single incident of teasing. People grow out of it. I don't know how old you are now but wait and see what life is like in a few years. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
