Starting this thread because I think it'd be a good discussion about random junk.

[hide=How this thread works]

There will be an item category in the subtitle of this thread, and listed under "current item." Please post the make/model of the item that you own or use. If you do not own that item, post what the closest person to you owns (for instance, I do not own a hair straightening iron, but if that's the current item I would post what my younger sister owns/uses)

Rate that item, supply a link to a website that sells it or an image of that item. Also share anything you want about that item (when you got it, others you've had in the past, etc.)

Also, if you're posting in this thread for the first time / you missed previous items, you can include those in your posts (just put them in hide tags)

[hide=How to change the item]

Two days after the thread goes dormant (no new posts on the most recent item for more than 24 hours), the next person to post can change the item to whatever they want.

If you change the item, you must post what you own.

Unless you're a mod (or special like me), you're not allowed to modify this thread's subtitle or post  . However, don't let that discourage you! Post the new item clearly at the top of a new post, and feel free to PM me or another active moderator to get the subtitle and current item changed.

That way, this thread will stay active.

If the thread doesn't update in 30 minutes, don't panic! I'm not on this forum 24/7, and this is a pretty low priority thread to moderators.

If you're picking an item please keep a few things in mind-

-Keep it G rated. (if you mind talking to your parents, grand parents, younger siblings, and three random strangers about it, chances are it doesn't belong as a category)

-Make sure people will own it or have purchased it (can't be obscure like toe ring or expensive like helicopter)

-No repeats, please (there are literally hundreds of thousands of things you can post... be creative!)

-keep it generic (bad:iPod. good: portable music player)

Paid $50, and they're probably the best you can get in that price range, was discounted from $100. Worth every cent. Only issue I have is that I have to fight my glasses sometimes to make them fit well, but it's a minor inconvenience.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

They aren't actually. They're actually really small, and won't cause your ears problems down the line like earbuds seem to for whatever reason. And the cord is more durable than most anyway. And besides, earbuds are more annoying, as in they actually hurt my ear canal by physically being in there.

Wonderful idea.

-- -- -- --

I've been a happy owner of Audio-Technica's ATH-AD700 headphones for the past six months. They are, in my opinion, the headphones with the best price/performance ratio sub-£200. There are quite a few "inbetween" models from £100-£200, but in terms of precision and comfort without needing external amplification, you can't do a lot better than these.

-- First Impressions --

I had to wait about three weeks for these to arrive. My old Sennheiser HD205 headphones were quite literally falling apart, and there was some problem with the order of my new cans. I was fairly worried that I would be without headphones for a while and would have to resort to my old Logitech 2.0 computer speakers. However, I got my order sorted out and they eventually came before the second-promised timeframe. The first thing I noticed was how nice the packaging and presentation was. The box is white and the headphones are nicely set in the middle. For some reason, and I don't know if it was my box or if they are generally like this, it had a lot of Japanese text on it, to the point where it took precedent over the English. I thought that was a nice novelty. Upon opening them and trying them on, they were a lot bigger than I thought. They were also a lot more comfortable than I could have ever imagined as well. So, first impressions were very strong. Believe it or not, it gets better...

-- More In-Depth --

Logically, the next step was to test out a few choice tunes. I picked some well-produced pop-rock, some black metal and some minimal techno. What immediately became apparent is the stark difference between "basic" audio equipment and "real" audio equipment. Basic stuff does the job just fine, but you're only really getting half, no, a quarter of the experience. With these, it feels like I'm getting the full experience. Drums are sharp and clear, airy, sparkly trebles, full mids and light but not insignificant bass were what met my ears as I played through these tracks. Everything is handled evenly and beautifully, with no breaks in clarity and smoothness when dynamics change. I noticed that even compared to my old headphones which had a rather high max volume, these were significantly louder at the same level. I wasn't especially surprised considering they have good resistance, but that fact remains. They are open-back, however, so the loudness doesn't ever feel oppressive. I would still advise quiet listening with these, seeing as the open nature does cause them to leak a great deal of sound. I would best describe the overall sound of these headphones as "hearing an actual recording played live in your room". They have that open-air feel without any expense in quality.

Style-wise they're quite good. Satin gold and purple might not appeal to some and neither will the wing system, but it is all done to save weight and promote a natural listening experience. The AD700s deliver this perfectly. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to take a step into the world of hi-fi. A definite 5/5.

Well, I hope I helped someone choose their next pair of headphones!

Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone Headphones

Bought these off Amazon for $13.73 a few weeks ago. Good quality for the price. If you mess with the clip too much, it will snap off the ear piece (which you can just snap back in). Fair amount of bass, a little awkward to get used to in the first few days but you get the hang of it. Definitely fit very snug too.

Sennheiser HD 202 Dynamic Supra-Aural Headphones

Bought these off Amazon for $21.85 about a week ago. Sound quality is just about the same as the above, although music is all they're good for. Tried playing Halo with them and there's no depth whatsoever (above is better in Halo too). Fair amount of bass. Makes ears sore after long usage. Wouldn't recommend them, despite their price and what people on Amazon say.

Plus the super-long cord doesn't help.

4/10

*Also a tip for OP: When you make a new item, you should post a link to the first new comment made for the new item on the front page so those looking for, say next week's topic is TVs, TVs can find it easier rather than digging through page after page.

$29.99 USD, about $50 here.

I own the pink one (Store didn't have any other colours). Doesn't have a volume control built in, so it is a little inconvienient to put on a computer (you have to adjust the volume or it's too loud). Wouldn't recommend for real PC gaming, but is awesome on MP3 players, if you don't mind looking like a douche. Colour seems to fade off the pad where it covers the ear (or is it dirt? ), but is a nonissue.

6/10. Decent, but overpriced.

I'm thinking a week is a long time for a thread like this to remain unchanged. I thought this was going to be more along the lines of "post what you bought this week, and tell us about it". But anyway...

I have some Audio Technica headphones, the ATH-A55 and I got them 3 and a half years ago, but they're discontinued now. They still work, I use them for everything, listening to music, watching movies, recording music, specifically guitar, best headphones I've ever owned. I'm amazed they still work given how much use I get out of them. I think I paid about £40 for them, but I did get them in Japan when I went previously and the exchange rate then was very good in comparison to now.

If I really want to get a good grip on a new album I'll listen to it on those headphones before playing it out on speakers so I get really immersed in the music and appreciate it. They haven't let me down yet, and have no sign of giving up. The 1.5m cable also helps as its a sturdy cable so it shows no real sign of any damage at any point.

When they do eventually give up I will have to replace them, more than likely with a new model of the same style as I'm so pleased with them.

I have this neat trick to listen to music with your iPod + headphones when you're resting in bed and you don't wanna bother others who are near you (assuming you're willing to play your music at full volume).

Just slip your headphones underneath your pillow (which will act as a medium for the sound to travel through) and play your iPod on max volume (or adjust accordingly). Works for me with these $10 headphones:
