The Rollback Cover-up

pal2002

Recommended Posts

After weeks of covering up stat rollbacks/resets as 'bugs' with JMods posting on RSOF telling players to report it as a bug while giving us no real confirmation of it as a botting punishment, this little snippet slipped through off a JMod Post on RSOF. QFC 250-251-387-61995403

I doubt the thread will be there for long since all threads on rsof on the subject are instantly locked/hidden/Soviet Russia away'ed to oblivion.

This here is the exact problem. This huge cover up operation seems to tell me that Jagex is now more tolerable to bots than EVER before.

For a long open look at the how Jagex promised us on how they would deal with bots, I point to my thread on rsof again 74-75-611-61883784

(Sorry hardcore TIFers; I'm not really that active here anymore. But at least the Jagex cover-up machine can't reach here I hope)

The short summary of my long analysis is that Jagex had promised us since 2001 and many more times since then that they deal with cheaters harshly and will always PERM BAN them. But look what's happening now? It should be obvious that bots have penetrated all aspects of RS. The typical classic 'yew bot' just isn't accurate anymore. There are now bots at so many minigames/activiteis/skills that you'd think a bot could never do before. And yet, at the same time, we have a response from Jagex they're now only resetting a few levels here and there (knowing completely well that they were in fact guilty) for these cheaters and letting them keep all the illgotten gains. This also ofc, create things like lvl 10 with fre cape or a lvl 10 firemaker with the firemaking cape equipped. What is that supposed to be? You now get a chance to get a super rare REWARD out of cheating too?

The worst thing out of all of this to me, is how Jagex had tried to hide this change of attitude toward botters from all of us. there is no annoucement, there is forum post, there is only hiding of threads trying to discuss the issue. The runescape rules still states today that cheaters are banned. But here we have a JMod confirming that at their discretion, they will just reset some levels and continue to charge the bot for membership. This is far from the moral, upright Jagex I knew back in 2002. I'm saddened to see Jagex become a silent and immoral profit machine humming away off its hypocrisies.

Hey there,

For several weeks now, some players have been reporting XP loss. There has been speculation that it may be the result of a bug.

I can confirm that there is no bug causing XP loss. In all cases, this XP was deliberately removed by Jagex as a punishment for macro usage.

We can, and do, still issue permanent bans for macroing. XP removal is another level of punishment that we can now use at our discretion. The level of punishment issued depends on the individual circumstances.

As always, we only apply any macroing punishment when we are 100% certain that a macro was used on the account.

I do have the page archived in case this post gets sent to neverland too...

In addition to replying here, there is a semi-clandestine thread going on in rsof too on the issue. Feel free to take a look there too.

JaGeX is a business. THey only care about you (or your parent's :P) pocket.

That being said, it's quite sad...

But it also seems to me that most botters still wouldn't care if they were punished, no matter what it was. So basically, it's a win-win for JaGex. Loss for us, the players.

XP removal finally confessed. Now I wonder if they'll tell us if they'll remove the stuff gained via that macroing process. If they do, I'm okay with it. If they don't, I've lost all faith.

From all that I can dig out of (unnamed sources), the bots keep everything. Even the 99 capes. They become un-wieldable but will be kept on if it's already equipped.

They keep mostly everything but a friend of mine was botting got caught resetted levels, all they took away from him was 5m.

Make a thread about it on rsof and you'll get a forum ban. True story

Not anymore, they're taken off after a reset

From what I've seen they very very rarely touch your bank.

I have a friend that botted mining, got reset before 99, but he didn't care because he had 100M banked.

But anyway, I thought it was already known here at tif that it was reset and not a bug.

I wonder why they decided to do this... :P It's certainly not as much of a punishment. Maybe they reserve it for first time offenders. But I still think a ban is more appropriate.

I think most have, but there was never any confirmation with a JMod post. Not even in the HLF where most things get leaked from. So having this verified definitely renews the controversy.

But they don't get money from people who are banned. And this gives them a chance to 'educate their users' rather than cutting them off. Except people who macro know it's against the rules.

I guess I'm approaching this too cynically. Just feels so wrong that they keep their cash/supplies gained. But more money I guess is more updates.

This, in my opinion, is another Treaty of Versailles; worst of both worlds. Botters have decreased punishment and more incentive to push their luck, and regular players are now scared of powertraining and the sort. Shameful move on Jagex's part. I wouldn't care if they did it for money, but when regular players such as myself with higher stats start worrying, something is wrong.

Right, time to bot defence on my turmoil pure.

But seriously, jagex is so out of touch with there pking playerbase that they probably don't even know that they are actively encouraging people to bot. Ive seen 10 defs with turmoil, level 3's with b gloves, the sort of thing that makes pkers have wet dreams and would make people WANT to bot.

I really don't care that much if jagex doesn't ban botters that often, but don't encourage it.

O.O

I really dont have a problem with this. Botters made money off of Jagex for years, after all.

Though I do think that in the event of credit card fraud or account trading, accounts ought to be disabled permanently, have their banks wiped and have their real life and in-game names made public.

But for slack-assed lamers who try to gain levels for themselves the easy way? This is a good approach.

I'd rather get perm bans, but the way I see it when Jagex used to ban and then people appealed they might have eventually got their character back. By resetting the stats if they do get a ban appeal approved then at least they dont have the unfairly gained levels.

Nah they never read/accepted macro appeals. And they still give out perm bans, just rarely. Most are rollbacks.

Umm...so is jagex encouraging the legit ones of us to bot in order to not be left to dumps because of quest requirements? just a thought, but they should definitely reconsider their position, or just post a bs-heartfelt letter that they need money more than a game without macros and ****ing give us free trade back? please?
