the problem is that the poll might not be is not representative of the population. the least of the biases here is voluntary response bias.

Well then it's a poorly done poll, isn't it? Wouldn't it be better if they just sent a message out to 50,000 active members asking the poll? This would be more then enough to be representative of the population of 10,000,000 down to a very small margin for error. Now I'm no statistics expert, I'm the type who only understands basic statistics for interpreting data but wouldn't this have been more effective if they really needed an honest answer?

It would have been more effective, however it would have defeated the ultimate purpose of pulling a publicity stunt to try and recapture the people who left in 2007. The problem is they left and moved on, and so did Runescape. They will never be able to recapture what they lost and I think this poll is beginning to show them that.

The thing here is that you can't go by the book, in the statistically accurate sense, on this one, simply because if they did what you are saying, many would rant that they didn't have the opportunity to vote or that their opinion wasn't accounted for. Those players would be right. For that reason, this is the fairest way this could be handled, even though it isn't flawless.

Any high school graduate would tell you that's bull [cabbage], but yeah, players would rant.

Big deal. Players rant about everything.

Edit @pulli: are you [bleep]ing kidding me? Did you forget the part where bots signed random names from the high scores to the petition? Get off your lazy ass and vote with your login info so they know it's you.

Nope, they wouldn't be right. Not every player needs to be sampled for the entire population to be represented. Jagex could explain how these statistics work and get a much more accurate idea of the alignments of players. Players ranting shouldn't get in the way of them getting a statistically accurate representation. Players will rant no matter what, players were ranting what phase one, they are ranting which phase two, and any other phase they would rant. Thus it is up to Jagex to simply do what is most effective, which they are choosing not to do in order to pull their little stunt.

It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.

That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.

well your right but either way it seems like the votes may still get to 1 million as the climb, while slowing has still reached the 700k mark

As Jagex is removing the limits on the Grand Exchange, I'd like to see them replace the current system with an actual auction house, like most other MMOs.

I mean, if they're going to have a win-all strategy against gold farmers, then there's really no need to have the GE be anonymous anymore, right?

its a lot of effort to turn it into a true auction house. I doubt Jagex will bother, although it would be nice.

Would an auction house be better? I kind of like the current system, though how it works can be improved. Yeah, it's not transparent, but that allows a system where you get a great idea of overall player perception of item's worth.

PS: I assume Shared Loot will change so that the players get the gp as if the item is sold for the average price. It'd be awesome shared loot worked with PvP (reduce risk of PJ even more).

Would you really want to hold an auction on every single item you wish to buy?

10k unfs would be a pain in the ass to buy.

Overloads and extremes worked fine in PvP; but, guess what? The whiners overwhelmed the forums and spammed relentlessly causing Jagex to think that EVERYONE wanted them gone. It happened with free trade removal and wild removal. People spammed and Jagex thought everyone wanted them back. Right now, 641,153 people have voted, 577037 people have said yes. That's maybe half of the current number of members Jagex has. When it comes down to it, spamming never shows the general consensus of the population. Why haven't millions of people voted? Because THEY DON'T CARE...You can't say more than 650K different players haven't been on over this Holiday season/break. On a related note...

Well there you go, if "they don't care", then it shouldn't matter to them weather free trade comes back or not, so the vote should be discounted.

If they DO CARE, and don't want it back, then they can and will vote. But at the moment those people are few and far between.

Whiny noobs and PKers have always [bleep]ed up anything Jagex had us vote on, since they are the majority of the people who play this game. High levels and knowledgeable players know that noobs and morons are the majority so they don't even bother to vote, thus continuing the cycle.

I found out that it possible to make a fake vote in one minute.

Few easy steps:

1) click on "create a new player"

2) put a fake e-mail address (last one I used was [email protected]"

3) put a random ******** and then click on continue.. You don't even need to create a name to this fake player.

4) Login in the referendum page and then vote.

THIS IS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET A VOTE. DO IT!!

Lol at people saying overloads should be allowed in pvp because they trained it and deserve to use it, the old wildy was alot funner because we didn't have so many overpowered weapons/prayers I really hope they ban turmoil/korasi/ovl/claws/dung weaps from the wildy I posted about this on the rs forums and was instantly shot down with "l2 train your skills"/"refund 400m pl0x"/"just because you can't afford those weapons doesn't mean others shouldn't be able to use them"

I have turm on 3 accs and 99 herb on my main but I would gladly have them banned for the greater good anyone who is an avid pker will know it would be alot funner without these things the others that probably don't pvp much well...have fun speccing 900s lol

Rose tinted glasses. What we do need is damage reducing armor/higher health (Torva)

Lol I just looked up your bh rank and you only have like 500 score so I doubt your 2 big on pking. I've been a pker since I started rs and I've witnessed alot of changes and it was definitely better in the original wild in 05-07 without these weapons that can take off 90% of your health in 1 spec

I rune pk around edge, mainly. What WAS is in the past. The only real change to the wildy will be the drops. The old wildy without all the new weps and stuff wasn't all that you say it cracks up to.

How do you implement auction house into graphs like http://services.runescape.com/m=itemdb_rs/frontpage.ws ?

Removing the 10% price limit is easy but turning it into something that can, um ... do auctions and bids is completly different.

Btw, anyone got scammers linking to phishing site like wildness-vote.net? Not sure where do they come from, havent seen a rs password scammer lately.

Password scammers are going to make a huge come-back now that there is profitability in it again.

One thing that JaGeX has nowadays that they didn't have in '07 was a gigajabillion amount of warning signs plastered throughout Runescape and constant warnings about the threats of botting/account selling/phishing sites.

I'm pretty sure that those graphs will disappear when they remove the restriction in the ge. It's not like ge could keep track of the new prices of items once free trade comes back.

There's no reason for graphs to disappear. The amounts traded and prices of items are based on completed trades within the GE. The GE server(s) can track that just as easy after removal of limits as before. Though Jagex can track average price of items outside the GE, I doubt that data will be made public.

Mind you, that's assuming you care what the average price of an item happens to be in context of completed trades in a system that matches what person A wishes to buy with person B wishes to sell. A vast majority of trades will still occur in the GE even after free trade returns. That system is just too convenient for the average person. As such, you'll have hundreds of thousands of trades a day which is plenty of data to create really pretty graphs.

Yeah I know turmoil and claws/korasi are so overrated and make no difference whatsoever to pvp, and obviously since the majority of players are voting for it to return we are all just riding the band wagon, pvp today is almost exactly as it was in 07 besides the drops I know this because I pk so much (I have almost 600 rogue points since the release of bh craters) I obviously know what I'm talking about

Ugh.. On one hand the GE has it's annoyances(Manipulation etc.), but then again.. I hated the falador/varrock trading so much. Running out of something like Laws was a horrible thing for me, meant having to dive into that cesspit. Same if I had something to sell; people standing next to you lowering their price in reaction to any price you put up and just taking hours to get rid of things. Awful memories -.-

Don't care about wilderness. PK has been meaningless to me since RS2 came out. Just hope they don't mess up all the content that works currently in/around the wilderness too badly.
