Clan Rankings and competition

After a long absence from the wonderful world of TipIt clan discussion, its come to my attention that in all the top lists, everyone still takes into consideration the whole clan world. Although theirs no problem with that, It seems that with about 80% of the users of the clan discussion section of these forums being from small - mid sized clans, why not just rank "TipIt" clans. Obviously their are many possible problems with this, but all easily avoidable. Back in the days of the almighty salscd run by the lord and savior Blade Viper, although many people from the larger clan world used SalsCD, most of the rankings were done based on "Sals" clans. I'm not saying that theirs certain qualifiers to be a tipit clan, but rather that the active clans as a whole that use these forums can get an accurate listing of their status among their peers here on tipit, and people from larger clans can give input on how said clans are doing, and hopefully give unbiased opinions.

All and all it would hopefully build a more competitive community, although this could create beef, it also creates more competition and more drive for clans to succeed.

Note that this post was created with the understand that their is a twr listing and some people do only rank certain clans, also note that its 3am and I have the downs. Also with the understanding that making a basis for "tipit" clans is nearly impossible unless the posters in the community pick up on it and use it as a source of competition.

Sum it up for yourself and answer these elite questions that took many moons to create.

Do you think Tipit currently creates a competitive atmosphere between clans, and produces solid rivalries?

Do you think ranking only certain clans in ranking lists, in order to make things more competitive would benefit or hurt?

What type of impovements do you see necessary to build a more competitive community, or do you already find it competitive?

Do you think Tipit currently creates a competitive atmosphere between clans, and produces solid rivalries? No, I don't really find the TWR system very interesting either. I think it should be worked on.

Do you think ranking only certain clans in ranking lists, in order to make things more competitive would benefit or hurt? I think it should be any clan that actively posts their clan fights on Tip it, they deserve to be mentioned in the list.

What type of impovements do you see necessary to build a more competitive community, or do you already find it competitive? Back in the days, on RSC the RaW list was pretty interesting, although it was really the top clans having no competition in the top 10 of the Raw list what so ever, Tipit doesn't have a lot of top clans posting on it at this moment, there is however a lot of mid sized clans that post still on Tipit. I don't really remember how SalsCD's rankings worked, if someone could give me a refresher on that. But there should also be different categories, so it doesn't leave other clans out. Like smaller clans have 20vs20 listings, or matched fights. And pures and skillers have their own section for pure wars + skilling competitions if that's interesting for them for their own category.

No, I personally don't think so, its intressting for the lower mid-sized clans, but for the real clans it's not really intressting. Real baits are made on RSC, and maybe thats just fine.

I think it would be fun if people can just set up a war and agree on the rule TIF Points on.

Maybe more competitions. Such as the TICT, it was very fun and everyone enjoyed it. Yet it was competitive, so maybe its an idea to make a 2v2 Group, or another poule with a groupfase and semi- and quarter finals maybe.

Most clans that have been active here stopped caring about TWR and are focusing more on RSC because that way they get more publicity and attention.

Here barely anyone looks, let alone post (on) a topic.

1 year ago Tip.it way much more lively, but since then many clans closed and rivalies ended (DV vs DF always ended up in juicy topics, or when LGZ had some coll members in it etc.) Also a lot of TWR clans have been moving onto pvp warring (downfall, envy, ascension etc.), and eventhough TWR offers the ability to set up the fights in pvp, a lot of other clans participating are CWA based and therefor refuse to fight in pvp.

Hopefully with the old wildy update more clans will appear and old clans will be more active. Maybe the increase of actions will also increase the activity of the fansites.

Basic Rules:

  • Your list can be on anything related to clans. (Top timezone clans/country/community/skilling/warring/etc.)

I don't see your problem here. Why take away the freedom to post any type of clans we want and only limit us to tip.it clans?

If the tip.it clans want to be ranked more often, maybe they should challenge the real top dogs more often?

No, hardly any clans post here anymore and the TWR is basically dead.

I don't think it would change anything really.

Get more clans to start posting actively and rivalries will be produced naturally.

TWR is getting out of date. I tried to help by suggesting ways in which to promote activity and more medium/large clans to possibly join. However officials from clans that grew up within TWR and CWA are against these changes apparently. Old school clans will rise and probably make a smoother transition to this change as opposed to the newer clans that made their mark in the CWA era.

If things do not change activity within tip.it will only get worse especially with old wildy coming back. The rules and the system twr has set up right now will destroy itself unless it is changed.

The problem within tip.it is that there is basicly no interest for the clan section. I never understood that, because tip.it has all the ingrediënts to become the most visited site, but they refuse to take a risk.

It annoyed the hell out of me that everything has to be discussed endlessly. Because of the over-complicated structure of all the staff members & organs like "The Conclave" which are both inactive. If I see the current clan staff, they aren't really visible. I browsed some topics & it's quite depressing to see how the initial optimism of about a year ago when the clan tournament was hosted is all gone again.

What tip it needs is a few people who put their foot down. Now tip.it babysits on the small clans and give them what they want. In my opinion (and that annoyed the hell out of me as a TWR mod) the small clans should accept that they are small and stop whining because they are heavily outpulled. Or you make seperate lists for small clans or you just accept the fact that if you have a 10 man clan it's impossible to reach #1 in the TWR rankings.

However the huge problem with tip.it is that - despite the lack of interest for the clan section - whenever a risk is suggested the admins stand on their feet and say "No way we can do that". The incredible fiasco of the memberlists (I don't know what exactly happened but at a certain moment the project was delayed for a year now, and I asked an admin why they didn't hire specific crew members just to work on the lists and he said there was no time for that, I mean what the heck? That could have made tip.it #1 again), and the constantely fluctuations of activity are getting old.

At a certain moment I began to think that tip.it bosses (not meaning the admins now specificly, just also some clan staff members) didn't want to make tip.it big again. Most promising clan staff members also took Global mod ranks, and I always wondered how you can focus on both jobs since being a clan staff member takes up enough time as it is.

Oh well, sorry for this rant and I hope people aren't offended but that's how I see it when I do a quick overview. I hope the staff has a plan what to do with the TWR when wildy comes back, maybe a game-plan how to get clans back to tip.it? But the same questions were asked years ago...

twr is 99.9% dead atm, and here are some possible reasons why:

~ most of the clans in twr are more interested in rsc popularity and propaganda - some recent examples are dragonwood (beef with poison), downfall on numerous occaisions (envy, bk, ph) which has taken their focus away from the twr.

however saying that, the twr's activity has been slowly decreasing over time... since the tourny there has been less declarations, and well less people have been posting win topics in general (in december alone there was less than 20 topics in the twr section of the forum that were active, and some of them were leaving topics)

another reason is possibly the decreased activity of clan mods, last year they were always looking to improve the way twr ran, however now they are even letting two topics about the same fight be posted by either side claiming a win but yet it seems that neither of them have been looked at for evidence about who truly won or one of them been locked.

tbh half the problem is that laziness inside the twr has become apparent shown here. i mean no offence but instead of asking people to challenge you why dont you challenge them and make the forums active again? clans like cr used to be active, and clans such as tk who closed used it at times, which made it active as there were rivalries that were fiercly contested for months at end. half the clans supposedly in twr dont even have fights and focus on rsc more than they post on tip.it

in the main rsc has gained the attentions of most twr clans, and it has gone to the back of peoples minds, only posting on tip.it after the rsc topic is up, and it shows as mainly most topics get less than 20 replies.

doubt it will change any time soon so tbh the twr should just end as its dead as it is.

I think most, if not every clan, uses RSC. Tip.it is just a smaller community which is more concentrated on the smaller-medium sized clans. Plus by a clear country mile Tip.it has more mature users.

Do you think Tipit currently creates a competitive atmosphere between clans, and produces solid rivalries?

I think one of the main reasons rivalries arise is due to the off-game trolling and flaming (sadly enough ...) which RSC allows people to get away with more to a certain extent so not exactly. However if the TWR became more competetive it might allow for rivalries to arise there.

Do you think ranking only certain clans in ranking lists, in order to make things more competitive would benefit or hurt?

The more you subdivide and put clans into more similar sized lists I think they'd consider getting more competetive so it could benefit - although it could also hurt if that rivalry becomes destructive.

What type of impovements do you see necessary to build a more competitive community, or do you already find it competitive?

I don't think there are many possibilities other than loosening the rules around trolling and flaming - which is something I don't want to see. RSC is an example of what can happen if a community is just left to its own accord with too lose moderation and something I admire about Tip.it is that it cuts out all the nonsense. So I think for Tip.it, the TWR needs some renovations.

Do you think Tipit currently creates a competitive atmosphere between clans, and produces solid rivalries? Lol, no. The TWR list is a joke, and they ignored Adrian's suggestions which would actually have improved it. And now that the wilderness is coming back, there'll be absolutely no reason to declare anymore except for beef because if a clan wants a fight then it'll just be a matter of going PKing and hunting someone down. The older clans will have the advantage on the CWA-era clans, although those CWA clans who have attempted to move to PVP in the current system will find that they also have a step up. CWA won't be completely dead after the change, but it'll be greatly reduced. Kind of like finding a CastleWars clan right now - you could find one if you looked, but they aren't mainstream. This is the future of the clan wars arena. Clans that do not adapt to the Wilderness, even if it puts them in temporary trouble, will die.

Do you think ranking only certain clans in ranking lists, in order to make things more competitive would benefit or hurt? Rank everyone in the lists. What, are you going to try and penalize a clan for not posting here en mass? If you refuse to make yourself relevant to them then you shouldn't expect activity from them. If you build it they will come etc

What type of impovements do you see necessary to build a more competitive community, or do you already find it competitive? I think it would be a great change to scrap TWR completely and create a tipit-sponsored "Supreme Court" body that decides on a list which is updated once or twice a week. The people designated to do this will have to be realistic in terms of their own clans and have great widespread knowledge of the full clan scenario. That means being able to comment in detail not only about the top clans but also on the medium and small clans as well. Although winning a fight won't directly influence your ranking in this method as it did in TWR or even RaW, it'd be a great way to increase awareness of the top 40 or so clans in a time where individuals are being brought back to the game and new clans are forming.
