Arch_Tyrant Posted January 17, 2011 Share Posted January 17, 2011 Well, I'm an idiot and recently spilled half a bottle of water all over the keyboard of my laptop. Surprisingly it still works but runs horrifically slow, almost to the point that I wish it would have just broke. Anyways, I am considering buying a new laptop. Since I am not loaded with dough I wanted to get some suggestions on machines that would get me the most bang for my buck. I am looking for a decent gaming laptop for around $600-$700 (maybe $800 at most). I know that cheap gaming laptops don't really exist but I am not really a hardcore gamer (runescape, minecraft, and maybe a bit of starcraft is all I really play). I'll try and get as much detail as I can for what I am looking for... -Mostly going to be used to light gaming, music, movies, etc.-Will be plugged in about 90% of the time so battery life isn't really necessary-Will be mobile quite a bit between school/home Brands don't really matter as well since I don't know much about them. My first laptop was an Acer which lasted me about 4 years until it died due to heating problems. This one I have now is an HP which really wasn't the greatest but was decent. I have read that ASUS makes some quality laptops, but again I am unsure. Size doesn't really matter either and I don't know what else to put. Everyone I know that has had a Asus including me have been very happy with it, and they last for a long while! I've had several brands up through the year but nothing beats Asus in design, build quality, set-ups and price. One thing you should have in mind when looking at models is that the laptops with higher screen resolution uses to be a lot more expensive than those with a smaller resolution. Up to oneself to decide whether you want high res, but I can't buy a computer without at least 1920x1080 res. Good luck! And I did force shut it down but only for 24 hours and it worked fine for about 2 weeks until everything went downhill.I'm going to browse at some shops and see if i can find any deals, is it better to buy online or in person? These things are unbreakable unless you try. I spilled water on my t510 a few times and it is just unusable for a day (won't turn on - Lenovo puts this in there). If you look at the video below you can also see it (but that one doesn't turn off at all). However, if you want one with a graphics card they come expensive unless you go for thinkpad edge. Id look at the one on the right of this page, add the x3 processor, 4gb ram, and a larger hard drive. You should easily be able to play SC2 on that. Also, if you're willing to spend a few hundred more dollars, you can look at the t410. They are more expensive, but even harder to break. Also comes with Optimus graphics. That's what the college rented to the students when I was there, and the motherboards in there die pretty fast. I did 2 years of college with my now over 2.5 year old Asus laptop. By that time, half the Thinkpads had to have their motherboards replaced. Any laptop that has drains in the keyboard for water will be good for spills. I always left my battery on my laptop, even if most of the time I use the laptop when it's plugged in a wall outlet and after 2.5 years the battery still lasts 3 hours. It initially lasted 4 hours.
