Your take on DIY?

Hmmmm, Recently I saw a post in the Official Runescape Forum about something called DIY. And i thought it was a pretty good idea. Now when i came to this forum, i can see that it has already taken alot of people swiftly, and many people are creating such DIY accounts.

I actually think this is a GREAT way of training. I mean traditionally, you would just grind away at a monster or a skill, which could seem to be quite boring, and many people quit runescape as a whole just because of this

I think that DIY bring a certain "rotation" to the runescape levelling process, and this adds a bit more fun to runescape. Previously, I would grind my way to 40 attack, make a short trip to the G.E buy full run, then continue grinding, Its the same whole thing for Months upon months.

But now, You would be able to Grind till 40, grab a pickaxe, mine ore, smelt it, make it into armor, and then continue on, And this isn't the only thing

Fishing and cooking your food for Gigantic boss fights. Woodcutting your logs to fletch etc....

It just gives you a whole new look at Runescape, and i think it makes the game more intresting.

What do you think about it?

Inefficiency is one point, but from personal experience, ive played runescape for ~5 years, and ive quit so many times, and i just come back sometimes, ya know.

I think this will keep you more focused, and i think IN the long run, you would've Benefited more.

At some point in time, you will have had to DIY but not on such a large scale. I never buy food and have never done it in my entire Runescape career thanks to my obsession with fishing. But to actually acquire all the logs, flax, runes, etc. to get 99 fletch, 96 mage, etc. would have taken a tremendously long time and I would have probably quit more often than I have now.

A DIY character may be fun in the future for just that, fun. I couldn't imagine trying to create a character into pro-status with just DIY...insane...

Since FUN is the only reason I play RS, I DIY a lot. To hell with efficiency.

I never bought logs, food, potions or herbs, I all got them myself. Except for 10 rocktails I needed to finish the Falador task.

Slayer is a DIY version for all kinds of combat, I like it a lot as its lessens the grinding for melee, ranged and magic.

I used the kindom for fish to cook, herbs for herblore, coal for smithing, logs for fletching/firemaking. I have crafted 99% of all the runes I used myself or got them from monster drops. When I got 100 wires from the mime court case, I raised my crafting levels to the level needed to make goblin light bulbs, and placed 100 of them for 105k firemaking xp, thieving high level chests as I was searching Dorgesh'kaan for broken lamps. I had fun while doing it, but could have gotten more money/xp in the same time grinding.

On the other hand, total DIY, however possible, would get you nowhere anytime soon, especially at lower levels. Therefore, I bought gold ores as I hate mining, buy seconds to train summoning, buy seeds to farm my herbs and buy weapons and armour as it would take too long to get them as monster drop. I buy planks to train construction and use the grand exchance to get items fast when I need them.

What kind of an idiot is going to waste hours upon hours getting fish and cook up in order to fish and cook rocktails before doing a boss, or farm herbs for days before having the farm/herb to make brews/sup restore, and then spend hours doing dumb stuff like picking 2nds from the ground... lol nothx I value my time over a flax picker's

I got a free to play DIY account, got most of my skills in the 50-60, after only a few weeks training (as I just do it as a sideproject next to my main). It's pretty fun to do, only the competition for ores makes it very slow for me to train mining en smithing very well. Oh, and runecrafting in free to play is a complete disaster, if you don't have runners etc. :P

You actually dont understand

When you fight low level bosses, you would not need food like rocktails, therefore you would fish things like Lobsters or Swordfishes, and while you level up combat in a DIY style, you would also level up other skills, which include fishing and cooking. Therefore, when you come to the point of needing Rocktails, you will probably have the required levels.

Thats a tremendous Feat To be honest

In my case, im not sure i am diligent enough to Carry out such a long and stressful task like getting 85 slayer just to get a whip.

There are certain things i would infact buy from the economy, such as a Whip, Godsword etc....

But most of it would be DIY, I hope to refine my technique before i actually make a DIY character though, one in which i could maximize my efficiency as a DIY character

says the guy who hangs out with efficiency nerds when DGing and etc :P

I DIY RS research tbh. Cuz rest of ya'll are narbs who don't help with research.

but maybe I'll hire ppl to do research for me now that free trade is out.

He makes efficiency spreadsheets and DIY's his calculations since he can't find many test subjects. He is saying sometimes efficiency is relevant to DIY.

Oh i see, I might be able to help with some research then. I'll do whatever i can do to help the community benefit :)

I DIY dragon claws. That is, I never purchased a pair. If you see me with them, it means I've had a drop in the past few days :P.

I hope to one day DIY a divine, however I intend to purchase the sigil.

Generally I try to cut out stuff I don't care to do such as cannonball making. I got a friend who does everything by herself but she likes cannoning - imagine how that works.

I do semi DIY if it cuts down on costs AND isn't boring/requires too much attention.

The tedium in cannonball making is deathly though, I'd never do that. I do, however, make my own amulets - from ores - for magic. I'm training mining, smithing, crafting and magic by doing this  I find that sometimes DIY is the cheap, better option. Efficiency guys, don't be hating on me okay? :P

I totally agree with this. It's just a game for me. I don't care if I'm killing pretend dudes or making pretend potions at max efficiency. I find DIYing pretty satisfying and like the challenge.
