amazed i am to be on a world that is empty in seers. But i noticed since update so many p2p world have a handful of people in them... surely this cannot be down to dare I say... "bots being disconnected"?? Or have Jagex just got rid of a load of them ?? More will be revealed in 12-24hrs i suppose, back to 1k+ in each p2p world again... Hope not tho !! Kinda like the silence and freedom...

I had trouble logging into RS in my browser (Chrome) after the update hit, so I switched to the client, where I didn't have any problems. Did anybody else have the same experience?

I run the downloaded app from Jagex, never play in browser after it compromised me in the past. Never had any problems with it at all.

I think it's just that people don't log right back in after updates. I could be wrong, but I think it's standard at updates for a lot of people to not log back in. Bots in particular, but I have difficulty imagining it's only the bots who don't log back on. And yeah, there's another thread about this.

Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. (At one point.) 2000+ total. 99 Magic.
[spoiler=The rest of my sig. You know you wanna see it.]

my difinition of noob is i dont like u, either u are better then me or u are worst them me

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

It has now been HOURS since the initial update and the world population is only @ 140K. Any explanation of client not loading, servers not responding is gone at this point The same time yesterday the number was hovering around 210K.

There you have it, really. 70,000 players LESS players wanted to play RS because there is a brand new quest to do? Makes perfect sense.

This is probably the estimate we have to "what percentage of rs population online are bots." By now, some bots would've have resetted by now and are at it again. So at least 30%-40% sounds about right. What a game we have...

There's a new log in screen. Would this affect bots?

No, the reason is that most botting scripts have to be 'setup' in game before they work. And for most of the average Joe botters out there, they don't have ways for the bots to start automatically. In other words, you can't bot the initiation of botting yet... >.<

It is absurd to believe that bots cannot log in themselves.

This is a really good point, not only was there an update the login screen changed. I bet a lot of bots had to update the scripts they use to log in and 99% of the leechers can't do that.

The above observation was based on the amount of people who were already on at the time. According to that one guy it was 70k LESS THAN WAS ALREADY ON. So it could be safe to say a large portion were bots, and a few were players who didn't log back in. An update and server reboot naturally would cause people to stop playing for a while, but i don't think it's too wrong to say that at least half were bots.

210k down to 140k. Is that both f2p and p2p?

if that is just p2p alone, then everyone needs to be worried. That's 70k bot subscriptions. If Jagex bans those 70k subscriptions, thats $420,000 less a month Jagex has, ie 5 million a year less, which according to 2008's numbers, is about 1/6 of Jagex's income. This would instill the proof that Jagex needs botters.

However I assume that those are both f2p and p2p, so take those numbers with a grain of salt.

Id say the majority of botters are f2p, but yeah that's still a nontrivial portion of jagex's income.

I've noticed a lot less people at slayer monsters since the update. Hey, I'm not complaining :P

[hide]

99 Strength 99 Fletching 99 Range 99 Hitpoints 99 Attack

99 Dungeoneering <3 99 Magic 99 Smithing 99 Herblore

99 Theving

Slayer Drops: 14 whips, 22 D boots, 27 Granite Mauls, 42 Effigies, 5 Dark Bows.

What would be cool is if Drakan and his minions kill all the sig heroes in the quest except Raptor who is wrecking. You and him team up and cave in some vampyre heads. He becomes a total bro in future quests and in a GM quest he receives a fatal injury and his last dying words to you are "Brofist, mang"

Doesn't Jagex still "earn" money off F2P bots from advertising spacing?

Bots don't load RS in a browser so no.

I think I understand this comment, but I am not sure. Please explain?

Jagex 'earns' money when an advert from a subscribing company loads.

Bots don't funciton in a browser like IE or FF, hence the advert doesn't load.

That's what I figure, at least.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

So, you're saying they use something like, what - swiftkit? Swiftkit doesn't load ads?

I'm lost here, and I really don't understand.
