Soul Split

Hopefully this provides you helpers with something that isn't bxpw related...

I'm a few hours away from 92 prayer, meaning Soul Split. I'm wondering if anyone has some tips for properly utilizing it. I'm aware of the method of flashing etc. I'm just wondering what people use it for? Sounds a little dumb, but I want to be able to use it to it's full ability. After all, it was a hefty investment.

Some specific situations...

Barrows? I'm content with my current method, but wondering if it's useful here.

Aviansies? Been one of my favourite range training locations. Viable replacement for b2p?

And the big one, GWD? I have limited experience with Bandos and no experience with Armadyl, but I've been told my current stats (and goals) would fair well here. Wondering if SS has a place ranging Arma and if anyone has a set-up that would work nicely using it. Keeping in mind I'll have 90+ Herblore soon after bxpw for Extreme Range and Super Prayers, but not yet have access to any chaotics or anything above 75 summoning for a little while...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you're meleeing, piety will pretty much always be more important to have than soul split. You'll find it a lot more useful after 95 prayer.

For Armadyl, soul split is good for solos. Use leech range/def and deflect range during the kill, and then flash soul split on the minions to conserve food. In a team big enough to mostly live on unicorn + EEE, though, you definitely want to have eagle eye or rigour.

Isn't it better with Turmoil but until then it's better to be on regular prayers?

Finally on here to update that I have officially quit! It's been fun.

One of the main reasons that I am getting it ( along with turmoil) is for its usage in dungeoneering, I feel it will drastically improve my keying and reliance on food.

All in all, I dont think you should switch from your standard prayer book until 95, at 92 its really not worthwhile just for ss.

idk if thats already been said or not though...

Is that really better? With curses I can often go several kills at a time without eating because I can soul split the minions. I'd imagine I'd have to brew a lot more otherwise, which would break my ovl boost which would defeat the purpose of switching prayer books for more DPS and shorten the trip.

For maging, curses w/o turmoil are superior. For ranging you give up quite a lot of ranged offence (15-10% level boost) to get healing. For melee, get turmoil. That being said, I would take soul split over piety at wyverns if I had a yak and a few more of those random situations where you'd rather not use a unicorn.

Feel free to use SS for slayer. You can use leech defense as an alternative for piety. Not so good, but if you use extremes it is still nice. Especially if you then use combat familiars or bobs, instead of the usual bunyip for healing.

SS can be real fun on slayer tasks!

Leech strength > leech defence really. Also, what does using extremes have to do with it?

Well, to be honest, I'm never really in a melee situation other than slaying when I can't range a task. So is piety still more useful if I'm only using the defensive characteristics? +25% is pretty sweet...

Eagle eye beats leech ranged big time (unless you are using amulet of zealots on a range-based opponent), rigour even more so. Eagle eye + steel skin beats piety and beats leech ranged + leech attack/defence/magic/strength + soul split imo.

When you solo arma you should optimally be on regular prayers for rigor

I'm not so sure about that. Having used both I can honestly say I have seen very little benefit of Rigour over Curses at Arma.

#1 Accuracy. While Rigour boosts your personal accuracy to 15% of that over initial curses boost, curses also reduce monsters defense by 10%. It might just be my bad luck, but I personally see very little (if any) difference in accuracy from using Rigour vs Leech Range + Leech Defence.

#2 Damage. Rigour provides 15% more ranged damage (initially) compared to curses. Diamond bolts don't typically hit over 500, so being generous the maximum boost from using Rigour over curses is 500*15% = 75 damage maximum (37.5 average). The problem is Curses take advantage of deflects. Due to the fact Kree is so accurate and hit's so hard, you can expect around 0-70 deflect damage every round. The deflect damage (on average) would deal the same as the Rigour Boost. Add on top of this that her attacks are so accurate that while you might roll a 0 in your hit, she can still deal damage to herself with deflect.

Add on the boost of healing with Soul Split, and I honestly think Curses > Rigour > Eagle Eye for any Arma Situation. Unless you have some evidence that shows otherwise?

Leech strength > leech defence really. Also, what does using extremes have to do with it?

If you are going to leech strength you should use stick with piety.

Less defense of the monster means you hit more accurately and harder. So unless you are facing weak monsters leech defense is better.

Extremes are mentioned because they make a huge difference in accuracy and strength. It is part of the strategy.

Also, you will not want to have a healing familiar, because otherwise you should just use piety. You want a combat familiar. (Or a Bob for profit). It means that defense suddenly becomes more important. You are getting a 4-fold effect. Hit better, more protection. Being able to use a combat familiar. And use SS for healing.

So...

leech defense > leech strength.

Unless you are facing weak monsters.

I actually slayered a million slayer xp with just leech curses and SS. So I am actually speaking from experience instead of opinion.

Or you just follow the crowd, wear prossy, use melee protect, piety. But the topic of the thread is uses of SS.

If you want to slayer efficiently with SS, you can. But you will have to use your brain and examine and experiment with each task in order to find out which leech is best. Mostly defense leech is preferable in my opinion. I wouldn't range or mage leech because it is usually better just to switch to normal spell book (if you range slayer).

But I wouldn't use curses at all unless you have access to a good combat familiar: that might start with wolpertinger.

And don't forget you can switch quite easily between regular prayer book and curses with the dig site pendant.

But naturally turmoil is king. Once you turmoil you cannot go back. And the essence of SS is that you can use combat familiars. If that is your thing I think that nobody should advice you against trying it out for a while.

Leech defence only affects your accuracy, you don't hit harder. Leech strength actually affects your damage & your opponent's damage. So no, leech defence is not better, except possibly on miths but there you would be using a full leech or piety anyway, not just one leech.

Extremes make a difference, but they don't affect prayers whatsoever.

The stuff about the fourfold effect is just rambling, it applies to any of the leech curses anyway.
