It depends if you use cleartype (clearfont?) to smooth out the font. With hardware acceleration on, the font is just white pixels, but with it off it has several blue/red/green ones around it to make it look clearer to the eye.

^this is wrong. For some reason it just makes the font thicker.

Yeah. I find the top one really hard to read. Supposedly it's an improvement in font rendering but it still doesn't have anything on GNU/Linux and OSX font rendering. It's a new technology for Windows though, so we'll probably see various improvements in the future.

Since I'm still running XP Pro, IE9 is not an option.

I use Firefox, Opera, Safari and IE8 (but mostly Firefox).

Seeing as this isn't off the first page, I'll assume it's ok to bump it.

Anyhow, Tom's Hardware just compared the two, along with Chrome, Safari and Opera.

Link.

IE9 won, but they have a little explanation at the bottom for those Firefox types.

Sig by me, in MS paint, but I'm still working on it.

Suggestions appreciated

Did IE9 finally add the ability to drag tabs to other windows and highlighted text and images to other programs?

Yes, you can drag tabs to other windows so long as both are not pinned sites. Highlighted text and images to other programs is just using the clipboard as always.
