Effiency questions

1) I've got 71 construction, but I can boost to 75. Where should I put my chapel/portal rooms/quest hall/other junk, for the most efficient house? I don't have enough room in my bank for my stuff in my costume room, so I'd like to keep it where it is.

My costume room is 2 to the east of my garden.

2) For slayer, should I be praying piety on all of my tasks? I've got 80 prayer, and 13m in cash, along with prossy and a soul wars cape. I normally use (for not praying melee) sw cape, glory, and v skirt as my prayer boosting armour.

3) I am needing to get 70 rc, and I heard that steam runes were the best xp at my level (59). Can someone link me to a guide for them?

4) Should I get a chaotic rapier now, before slayer, or wait and do what I'm currently doing (Do all the floors I can do, then a farm run, then a slayer task, lather, rinse, repeat.)?

5) Which slayer tasks should I be cannoning and which should I skip/block? I've got wyverns blocked, should I block the metal dragons? I bank all their bones, for a bit more cash. I also have a mind to cancel fire giants, because I hate them so much.

6) How should I be training herblore? I've got 81 at the moment, and I'd like to get 89, for extremes. Which potions and whatnot, I mean. I really do not like using stews to get a boost (I have horrible luck getting a herblore boost :/), so I'd like it if you took that into account.

7) For getting 96 mage, should I be stringing jewelery or what? I do have a full set of battle robes in my bank, along with an SoL, so I can burst rock lobs if need be.

That's about it, thanks in advance!

1. Can't really help you with that

2. Try to learn to prayer flash piety is the best advice I can give you there

3. I've never heard anyone suggest steam runes as good xp, I probably would've just told you law runes

4. I wouldn't bother with chaotic but I hate dung so...

5. I haven't done slayer in a long time but I know you should definitely cannon dags, aberrants, and greater demons if you're willing to risk the rev dungeon. I'd block black demons for sure but other then that I block tasks I just don't like

6. Its up to personal preference, I've heard prayer pots are the most efficient use of your money but I just do the highest potion I can to make it go faster.

7. Yes. String jewelery for sure.

'Snipers_end' should be here to ask the questions, not answer.

If I were you I'd get a rapier for sure, as fast as you can, if you're looking to slay. Itll greatly improve your killrates for the majority of slayer tasks.

Black demons are a great task both for xp (cannon them in taverly) and for crimson charms (50% drop rate). People tend to block slow tasks that cannot be cannoned and which offer little in the way of charms.

Use Grimy's reference spreadsheets in the Guides section of the forum to work out which potions are best in terms of xp/gp

Rapier before I do any slayer or whatnot? Mmk then.

I actually just unblocked them, they were great! I took urns for (minimal) pray xp, which worked well.

See, I looked at the herblore one, and did not understand it at all. There was something like 1000k/hour, 2000k/hour, 3000k/hour, and all that jazz, and I got thoroughly confused.

get a rapier asap

piety everything

flashing is bull [cabbage]

if you have a fire cape use it

if you have a torso use it

the most efficent thing to do is to get your highest strength bonus, excluding str ammy and dfs

It's great you know what you're talking about rustiod. Everything you've said is 100% accurate a true.

That being said...your a [bleep]ing [bleep] douchebag, and none of your advice will ever (or should ever) be taken seriously because of it.

inb4 Grimy gets in here :P

pray piety on all tasks, it's worth it and pray pots really are not that costly (I have a 1m cash stack and get along just fine. Don't forget to bring a holy wrench though.) even without prayer boosting gear. You can wear a sw cape over fc, but generally try to wear gear that maximizes atk/str like Bandos. IMO, cannon everything that's cannonable (dags, kalphites, velds, greaters, hellhounds, spectres, black demons etc.). Block stuff that you find really slow, wyverns for example are a pain so yeah it's good that you blocked them. I'm not sure if I would block metals, with your stats maybe (since they're really only fast with rapier/fire surge). Don't block black demons, if you cannon them the charm rate is really pretty solid and they are fairly weak to cannons so you get great xp rates all around. A task of 200+ generally takes about an hour. I also wouldn't block fire giants since they have low defence and in my experience get downed even with just a normal whip setup.

As for mage, depending on how much money and time you're willing to spend... bursting rock lobs to 94 and then barraging for charms is not a bad idea, string jewellery is faster but very expensive. Personally I did a mix of stun-alch and surging metals. Also if you just want rc to be done and over with quickly, ZMI is still the fastest method in the game barring 90+ effigying.

No idea about herb/rapier, I myself just dung between slayer tasks and slowly try to work towards a rapier :P

Piety every task is a must. Rapier is VERY worth the time it takes. I like your idea of doing floors then a slayer task, I wish I had done that  Dungeoneering can get pretty boring... For the mage / herblore question, it really depends on your cash pile... I superheated gold for some good smithing exp along the way, although it did cost me a good 15m. For herblore, if you have the cash, making super recoveries until you can make extreme pots is a good choice, along with a few super antifires for those metal dragon tasks (which with a rapier and Dragon defender, is a very fast task). But if you are strapped for cash, something like serum's are a low gp / exp. Task's I block are black dragons, warped terrorbirds, and LRC (personal choice, I wouldn't usually block these). So I don't think you should block either metal dragons or fire giants, no matter how repetitive they seem... Their a moderately fast task in the resource dungeon. Tasks I cannon: Black demons, mutated bloodvelds, dagganoths, and hellhounds. Sorry it was all mixed together, I had a bunch of thoughts in a row :P

The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

  • [For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)
  • Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)
  • [Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3
  • Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)
  • Dragon boots (rune boots)
  • Amulet of fury (glory)
  • Dragon defender (rune defender)
  • Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)
  • [Most important] Full slayer helmet.
  • [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and elite void skirt (black dragonhide body and chaps)
  • [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (Saradomin sword, Zamorakian spear)
  • [stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Korasi's sword (Zamorakian spear, leaf-bladed sword)
  • Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes
  • Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +15 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +25 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

  • 68 summoning - bunyip
  • 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier
  • 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires
  • 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split
  • 88 summoning - unicorn
  • 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload
  • 99 summoning - steel titan

I'm sure I missed something but this is most of it.

[/hide]

But you probably knew all that.

You should cannon every task besides irons, steels, abyssals (can't cannon these anyway). I personally hate cannoning LRC but without a cannon they are very slow so I skip them.

Block jungle and desert strykewyrms, warped tortoises.

My house layout.

Steam runes: duelling to Al Kharid, enter altar (tiara), cast magic imbue, have necklace of binding equipped, craft, empty pouches, craft (10 seconds since casting), duelling to cwars, bank, repeat.

Get rapier now. Stringing is good for magic, so are rock lobs once they get fixed. Do extremes for herblore, stew to make spec recovers for starters.

They're all good, thanks!

I'll definitely cannon all tasks I can, and I'll pray piety.

What should I make until I get 83 herblore? I don't mind using greenman's ale to boost, mind you.

I still have that list you sent me, Quyneax, I'll be referring to it a lot.

Do I need a talisman or anything to combine runes? And what do I use on the altar? (I'm assuming I use water runes here, going to the fire altar)

I shall change my house and block list to reflect this advice also.

I'll get a rapier soon then, and most likely string for Mage levels.

I really don't like stewing, but I'll try it again (I almost always get neg boosts to my herb level :/)

For the steam runes - orginally you would need the other talisman but with magic imbue - you take away that

http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Magic_Imbue

Also for the herblore boost - time when your counter is (boost up a stat and see when it drops a level - then drink your stew)

If you get the positive boost, count down to a minute (while making potions) - however make sure to log out right before the timer

Then log in - make more potions, and log out before the counter again.

It's tedious but it's effective in getting you to use the stew to its maximum
